Taking another step up in tech would require the console to cost way, WAY, more than 1000 bucks (think 1500ish) in order to show off any marketable difference compared to out current consoles. The best hardware deals aren't made by console manufacturers now, they're made by data centers, meaning Sony and Xbox won't get some huge discount on 5080-tier chips they can resell in their machines on the cheap.The only way they can have any chance at a new console generation is if they pull a Nintendo and instead of focusing on better hardware instead take a step into a new form factor. Or try to pivot in the Apple-direction and make fake luxury tech that's more of a status symbol than anything useful. They could try testing the waters with game streaming again but this has never worked historically and game streaming tech still hasn't improved to the point where it can be compared to local.As a last note, none of the above applies to Nintendo.
