Playing Touhou Shoujo Tale of Beautiful Memories AKA Super Mario RPG but Touhou and it's very fun. If it comes to giving up on extras or using thprac you may find it more enriching to give up your conniptions there, it's really hard to improve normally.I think if one is really averse to it you may benefit from recording footage of your attempts and really slowly going through the footage to see where you died and why. Danmaku really is like 80% brains 20% skill, a lot of patterns will just never get easier until you learn a strat for it or perceive the proper way of doing it. Deducing that some bullets are aimed and tapstreaming is an obvious basic example, if you try to YOLO dodge it will be impossible forever, but then the second you tapstream it's trivial. Finding that stuff out in the heat of the moment is hard, but checking footage and analyzing it calmly can help. Of course, thprac just lets you figure it out in real time.
