Does SS2 generally work well?
I’m afraid because I keep seeing people bitching about bugs out the ass and general instability
Is it just a case of poortards playing on a fucking Pentium or is the engine just not able to keep up with the complexity of it?

Back during Fallout 3's times, they ran a contest for people to submit a perk idea, giving us Grim Reaper's Sprint
What do you think of the runner ups? I feel like Schizophrenia could've been interesting. Also Clumsy Mother seems like it would've been a cool idea, but it needs a bit of a bigger benefit than reduced damage from headshots
>>
>>567461454
I feel sorry for the dudes making suggestions like Money Talks, Schizophrenia and European Accent mistaking Fallout 3 to be primarily be an rpg and not a shooter.

A lot of these would also be better fit as traits and not perks. Which also makes me feel sorry because Bethesda didn't even bother with traits in the game.
>>
>>567459873
SS2 is fun, but I had a lot of issues with it. One of my settlements started to CTD me if I got near it, but if I disabled SS2 I could go to it. Also after beating it's whole story my save started CTDing like crazy. Probably just a bad script from the previous issue haunting me. It's worth a playthrough, but i'm not sure if I'll do the whole main story again until he adds more content.

not really, it largely died off around the time of Skyline Valley. Hitman, the main animation porter, moved back to messing with porting stuff to New Vegas, and the others working on ports moved on to other things or locked their stuff behind patreon like Alana, the one who ported clothing and armors.

I'm in the same boat honestly, Fallout 4 has made itself a game I HAVE to complete at least once but everytime I try I get half way through and I get disinterested. I have downloaded hundreds of mods to add more into the world but it still could use more work. Skyrim had something called TitKit IIRC, that let you apply nipples and areolae as an overlay in the looksmenu, and I really want something like that for fallout, does anybody know if it exists? I have tattoos and pubes galore, but I can't give any characters big fat pancake nips. Don't really want a skin tex like that either, cause I don't want it on every one of my characters. In terms of game design should Cherchez La Femme & Confirmed Bachelor be designated as traits instead of perks?

At least Lady killer & Black Widow could be described as enhancement towards speech/charisma checks and doesn't necessarily set your sexuality but the other two basically has the game admit you leveled up into a gay/bisexual person which comes across as pretty moronic imo

From a roleplay perspective, when is a good time in the main story to do the Automatron, Far Harbor, and Nuka World content? I just finished Fort Hagen and was about to leave to Nuka World with the asspull of "Nora heard a distress signal for help" and being a goody two shoes went to investigate, got captured, and then returns as a crazy raider lady.

But I almost wonder if it's better to wait until you find Shaun, and the mind fuckery of all that causes you to snap and wander off to wherever.

I jut realized they tried to make Nate/the Sole Survivor basically Commander Shepard. The shitty dialogue tree directly points to that. I had a dream last night about how Charisma could be better in 4, and it's actually not a bad idea.
Besides only affecting shop prices and asking for more caps (which can be easily handled by putting on fancy clothes first), it should also affect companion affinity.
Affinity would build faster if you've got high charisma. Additionally, if you do something someone dislikes, you won't get as big of a penalty (I mean who hasn't overlooked serious character flaws in someone cause they're smoking hot?)

Now this would only be any good if the companion perks were better which... they aren't, but it could actually be kinda interesting

I feel like Fallout as a franchise has kind of lost something the further we've moved from the 90s.
Not something tangible or even reflective of any sort of quality, but maybe just a general feeling that although the games take place in this retrofuturistic world, they were still made by dudes in the 90s who grew up in the latter half of the 20th century

It's a creeping suspicion of mine that Cait was modeled after Femshep. She has a deep red mullet and freckles. While this could just be a coincidence because she's Irish and Emil is a plastic paddy, the fact that they reused the exact same shade of red on a hairstyle that looks nearly 1:1 with Femshep's hair (along with the rest of the Mass Effect-y stuff in the game) makes me think that it was lifted from her design, which was on a lot of the promo material for ME2 only three years prior.
The whole Minutemen General stuff was pretty on the nose too.

It's more that culture as a whole has changed, and so has the state of the industry. Modern game companies obviously don't want to publish games with dated references because zoomers won't understand them, but anything too recent inspires controversy and backlash from people who marketers want to promote their game. And with how rapid the flow of information is nowadays (and the relatively slow pace of dev->release), references to current events would be outdated as soon as the game releases. You can see other games like GTA struggling with this too.
I guarantee you that GTA VI will release either with tons of dated references to Ukraine/Russia, Orange Man, the coof, etc, or it will release with basically no cultural relevance at all, and it will suffer for it.
>>
>>567659226
The GTA world stopped being fun when it was no longer a historical piece and is just modern day. IV accidentally became one due to it being set just before the smart phone "revolution".
I recently replayed V and despite being 13 years old it is still insufferably modern day. Everyone is still a social media addicted shithead.

You play 76. 76 has an awful story and writing too but it's a better RPG than 4. You have a mostly blank-slate character, faction questlines that for the most part don't require you to progress through the god awful main quests, better dialogue system, better perk system, etc.
If this game had sex mods nobody would bother with 4.

Truthfully though, I really regret not going idiot savant. I'm tired of chugging mentats for less EXP than I'd get otherwise. It's a bit upsetting though that I can really only use energy weapons if I have high Intelligence, which I probably won't do in the future

the plasma caster creation has 3 or 4 different plasma caster models. there's also a port of the gatling plasma and plasma caster directly from 76. the creation includes a 76-styled one, too. the plasma defender creation is also really good. I'd say it's the best of all of the plasma defender mods available. it's part of the revenge of the van graffs creation, alongside the laser rcw.

I hear you. I'm still holding out hope for a good fallout 3 and new vegas style plasma rifle and multiplas rifle mod. there is another one that I just remembered that was modelled after the classic fallout plasma rifle. it might be closer to what you're looking for. the attachment pack by dak and friends adds mods to the vanilla plasma rifle that make it look similar to the classic plasma rifle and the cut new vegas duoplas rifle. there's a couple of screenshots of them in the gallery if you want a preview.

Also how would that work? The game is too goddamn big. Disregarding the logistics of making all those areas which is intense for a small modding team, we're talking putting San Francisco, New Reno, Vault City, the NCR, and all the other smaller towns within walking distance of each other and you'd see them over the horizon? There's actually a note about it in the Overseer's terminal. They have controlled breeding seasons to prevent undesirables from mating. That’s one of the reasons the Overseer hates the player character: the Overseer is a megalomaniac and sees the player character as invasive.

We already know they are doing a Burning Springs part 2 update for later this year, and have plans to add the Capital Wasteland as a new area probably next year. Given that that is also most likely going to be broken into two parts, we'll get a big Capital Wasteland part 2 update in 2028.

After THAT then the game will likely wind down since thats the last thing they've been building to since they first added expeditions into the game files in like late 2021 or w/e

If it starts to fizzle out after the Capital Wasteland update, fair enough. But as it is, things are just sad. As if the game was deathly ill and is desperately trying to hold back death until they can fulfill their final task.
The bigfoot and then infestation update, the decline of season rewards. Well, I guess now that I mention it, it is like watching a loved one wither away. Everyone knew it was coming, but it's still sad to watch.

>>567792498
>But as it is, things are just sad. As if the game was deathly ill and is desperately trying to hold back death until they can fulfill their final task.
Not really. It's pretty typical of the smaller updates F76 has done for awhile.Like Ghoul within, or Once in a Blue Moon.
>>
>>567792881
Also Bethesda already explained what they are doing this year. Stuff like the bigfoot update was meant to revamp things like the old events, and infestations are basically new "hoards" as part of their long running series of updates to things like perk cards, armor, weapon damage, the camp UI, etc. etc. which is building to a big next gen update that is supposed to come out later this year. Its less about trying to add in a bunch of new stuff, but fix up a lot of the stuff that is already in the game for the next-gen update.

I will say that Fallout 76 has two big issues going forward past 2028/Capital Wasteland.

1. Fallout as a franchise only has a small list of general enemy types to draw from. Raiders, ferals, super mutants, generic mutant wildlife, unique regional mutations(Troggs, Marked Men, etc.), robots, and evil high tech factions(Enclave, Institute, Big Mt). Fallout 76 has done most of those, with the story heading to a confrontation with the Enclave in the Capital Wasteland area in the future. After that, the only things really left to use would be like the lovecraft stuff, and the aliens, and I'm not sure how willing they are to do that, or if Bethesda Maryland would let them do that even if they wanted.

2. Bethesda tried expanding the game outside the map with expeditions, and people didn't really like those, so planned expedition areas like Skyline Valley, and the Capital Wasteland, are being turned into map expansions. But the issue is, and Bethesa has even admitted this, they can't keep expanding the map. While Skyline and Burning Springs added new areas, they didn't expand the actual map art more south of west, they just got plugged into gaps in the existing map area. Given that area is likely the largest they can make the map, that really only leaves like 3.5 Skyline valley spaces to expand into, and one of those will be taken up by the Capital Wasteland. So really theres only like 2.5 spots on the map that can actually support future map expansions. I guess if they wanted to do an aliens/cultist storyline that could cover it, but that would actually be it.

>they didn't expand the actual map art
>really only leaves like 3.5 Skyline valley spaces to expand into
It's not the map art that's the problem, it's that they said the game is starting to hit its limit for how big the worldspace can be without severely damaging performance
I'll assume burning springs 2 will handle the south part of the ohio area on the map, and hopefully the river but after that they probably can't do much more. Some anon made this mockup of possible regions for expansion but ultimately, I don't think we're even gonna get a map expansion into the Capital Wasteland. The Capital Wasteland was always meant to be an expedition and they're already letting us down saying don't expect much more in the way of worldspace expansions

The sad truth is that their ultimate patch 76, possibly the last hurrah for this game, is going to be an expedition, and no one likes those. Sure people will get all excited at first, but play it a couple times then go back to grinding the most dangerous game.
You'd think Bethesda would've noticed based on how no one liked daily ops that expeditions wouldn't be popular either but I think they're too far into this now.

Which is what I was referring to.
> I don't think we're even gonna get a map expansion into the Capital Wasteland. The Capital Wasteland was always meant to be an expedition and they're already letting us down saying don't expect much more in the way of worldspace expansions
Skyline valley was meant to be an expedition also.
>The sad truth is that their ultimate patch 76, possibly the last hurrah for this game, is going to be an expedition, and no one likes those. Sure people will get all excited at first, but play it a couple times then go back to grinding the most dangerous game.
Given that they admitted expeditions were a failure, and even cancelled the third Pitt expedition they were working on after Atlantic City came out, I find this unlikely.
>You'd think Bethesda would've noticed based on how no one liked daily ops that expeditions wouldn't be popular either but I think they're too far into this now.
Huh? People really enjoyed daily ops. WTF you smoking.

Also, I'm fairly certain that's the map I made awhile back.

IIRC Btthesda has oturight confriemd the river, and people who broke out of the invisible walls have said there are terrain edits both north and south of the existing Burning spring area. So we'll get the river and probably these two areas.

>>567800769
I'll just be happy if I get my damn river, I've dreamed since I started playing of going across it and I'm terrified they'll keep it the way it is so that you have to enter Burning Springs "the intended way".
I'm surprised to hear that there might be stuff north, things seem pretty final if you go along the northern border, but I think I remember one of the devs saying they wanted to do one of the cities that's further north, but i'm a bit foggy on that
>>567797904
Hmm, well the one thing I will say is if they want some kind of Enclave finale, it'd likely have to happen by traveling to Raven Rock so it would make sense to expand the map (too bad there's hardly anything good on the west side of the Capital Wasteland).
I would be really excited if they did expand that way I'm just, trying not to get my hopes up.

I'll be the one to say that I agree with you, I tend to have awful luck so even when I main in melee I tend to miss like crazy or not do enough damage so I can understand your frustration with the trail. Honestly that follows me until half way through the game but when I stop missing every and dying then it becomes really fun.
>>
I just really like 2 for how ridiculous it is to have 5 companions. Kit them all out with the best gear and you'll be an unstoppable kill squad, it's great
I'd use Charisma more if the other games were like this
>>
>>567895221
You can easily mod 3/NV to do that.
>>
>>567895732
I never thought about maybe using one of those unlimited companion mods but using the honor system to tie it to my charisma.
Hmmm, that could work

Going well, playing 4 again after SS2 destroyed my last save. Working on a mashup in OS for my character.
>>

is ss2 that unstable
>>
>>567918138
It might have just been my majorly modded setup. But one settlement I couldn't go to cause I'd CTD trying to get close. I spent a good while trying to figure out why, but when I disabled SS2 and went there I didn't crash. I figured maybe it was just a one off thing that got fucked up, but after beating SS2s story all the way my game started to CTD about a minute or half a minute into playing. Again, could just be a me issue. I like SS2, but I think if I'm gonna do SS2 again, i'll save it for the last thing I do on that save just to be safe.

Well for the longest time I played SS2 up to when you take over the Gunners HQ. And stopped cause I figured that was the end of it. Then my friend who told me about SS2 told me it has a lot more after that, so I did it my last save and after finishing the whole quest of SS2 my save started CTDing like crazy. So I guess it's safe until then? The final chapter does add a lot of shit and things you don't normally see in FO4 mechanics wise, so maybe that shit is what broke my save.

There is like a dozen of essentials in Depravity's slaver appartment complex, including a 10 year old with a gun, not Jason Voorhees, and not Harley Quinn, and all of them are brutal and edgy tryhards but kind of self-aware, except for the main guy who tries to do a "punished Preston" thing and fails spectacularly.

I think Bethesda are the only company to make games that combine all these mechanics:
>Open world with a sandbox approach to questing.
>Every (Fallout is looser with this) NPC in settlements having a name, having their own schedules, and homes.
>Being able to take everything from NPCs' inventories.
>Being able to pick up and drop random items.
These mechanics make up the foundation of the game, which allow for micro-freedoms that immersive the player in the world.
I think the reason why people dislike Starfield is because it deviated the most from these mechanics.
>>

True enough, I think it's also the character creation aspect. I love a game where I can make my generic biker guy in it.

They're really cool but in my game they're ultra-tanky. .50 Cal and 20mm does little to them. My game for some reason is super unbalanced. Shit kills me in a hit or two but takes forever to kill them. I think it might be True Damage, a mod my friend who loves FO4 suggested to me.

You've listed some good ones I didn't know about, like defective synths and gremlins. Creature mods have always been a favorite of mine in Bethesda modding, so i'm happy to see someone has made a list.

I like the design of Fallout 1's Power Fist in part because it looks like it's much more convenient to wear. Something you'll always have on your person, and that you can wear it while holding guns.
I don't hate 3/NV's Power Fist. The pneumatic piston plate is a neat idea, but my issue with the design is just how chunky the gauntlet is. The NPCs look like their arms are stuck in a five gallon bucket.
Only thing about 1's Power Fist that's a bit confusing is how it would function. What makes it a POWER fist? The description says it has a kinetic energy storage device inside, but IDK how that would work or why it'd necessitate energy cells.

It's weird just how much cut content they just left in Fallout London. There is no key for this circuit breaker and truthfully there never will be. You know how these things go, you make something out of passion and the second it's out that all deflates and you never want anything to do with it again.

But it just got me thinking, we could've seen cut content like this all over 76. They were close to shutting down the servers in 2021 and that just would've been it. All their plans for stuff to add later down the road never would've come to be. We would've never seen into Vault 63 for instance, that just would've been a mystery forever.

Hell even in the current game, there's a lot of blatantly unfinished content which we'll just never get an answer for.
>All those voting booths and the Whitesprings presidential scanners, the squirrel badges
>the Pitt free roam and lost third mission
>the fact that Skyline Valley was made to be a loop with winding roads everywhere solely for a feature that's been removed seems strange now.
>The Burning Springs just feels off, yes we'll get a map expansion later, but the lack of interiors even in Athens just feels like something went wrong in development
>the goddamn Nuclear Winter lore implying that Appalachia completely falls apart in the future with firestorms brewing everywhere.

You know I wonder if their financial troubles in 2021 is why they shut down Nuclear Winter when they did, they were just desperate to cut out any kind of unnecessary expenses.

Building in this game is a ton of fun. I saw a secret Enclave mountain complex when I was doing my dailies the other day and it reminded me of that part in Fallout 2 where you discover that the secret entrance to Navarro is under an old gas station. It gave me the idea to make this. It's a WIP, but it's essentially a secret Enclave missile silo bunker hidden behind a keypad-locked door in the back of an inconspicuous rural shack out in the Mire that I'm using as a vendor/home for wandering travelers. I need to furnish it a bit more, I still haven't got the US flag plan but I plan to get it so I can put it here. Also the bottom level in my missile silo shelter isn't lit up yet, it has lights and power but I need to place conduits in a place where they don't look retarded.
The bedroom wallpaper in the Enclave kit looks like it's made of the same lacquered wood that Richardson's office was made of.

If Microsoft ask themselves
>Hmm, do I want Fallout 4 megabux or do I want Pillars of Eternity autismbux?
The answer is obvious. Even people that dickride FNV are more likely to play other Bethesda games than they are to play the kind of thing Obsidian otherwise make. FNV worked because it's basically a classic fallout lore mod for Fallout 3, and even then it underperformed at launch despite being vindicated by cult longevity.

Fallout 3 is better than Fallout 4 in every single way including writing

Fallout 3:

Fallout New Vegas:

Fallout 76:
>Wow! Look at all the different environments! A blooming forest, a foggy swamp, an ash heap, desert ruins! Expeditions to the Pitt! Well this fame has it ALL!
Fallout 4:
>Commonwealth is literally just dilapidated buildings and flooded urban city centers
>Glowing Sea has literally nothing in it, and it's like half the map
>Best DLC is a rehash of Point Lookout
>Haha remember Nuka-Cola?!

At least Skyrim has like five or six holds that looked different. Oblivion had more terrain variety than 4.

In every way except writing perhaps but the FO3 story makes zero sense whatsoever and neither do most of the subplots
like FO4, for all its flaws, at least has a coherent logic to what the protagonist is doing and why.
FO4
Take the evil paths for example.
In FO4: you side with the Institute and successfully help them destroy their enemies, you have a plausible motivation to do this because your son, the original macguffin of the plot, is their leader.
FO3: You destroy the Enclave because ??? but then poison the water supply anyway because ???, which btw is the plan of the AI president you just destroyed because ???, also you have to sacrifice yourself to poison the water, why this is preferable to just letting it fail and render the water undrinkable anyway... uh... ???
>>
>>568132175
Fallout 4's main quest is less coherent than 3. You're disingenuous or brown.
>>
>>568132175
>like FO4, for all its flaws, at least has a coherent logic to what the protagonist is doing and why.
LOL.
The second or third quest you get after you've watched your infant son get kidnapped, your wife get merked and the world get NUKED, involves scouring the wasteland finding settlements full of nobodies to save from raiders who, like the one-man-army power fantasy your player character is, just charges in with no prior preparation and wipes out the lot of them.
Like when does your character go from scared pre-war vault dweller to Captain America?

For the Minutemen you do, and that's clearly what they were intending you to do given that the first main quest after leaving the vault has Codsworth telling you to go to Concord.

And how many new players just ignore the very first town that occupies 90% of your FOV when you leave the vault for the very first time? You have to be a metagamer to ignore the very obvious visual signposting.

The very first faction quest most players will get leads them straight back to Sanctuary after Concord, and most players will follow this questline because it's the closest available destination. You don't have to engage with it technically, but the game is set up in such a way where you're heavily encouraged to. It's definitely part of the main canon.
>You could just as easily make the argument that in FO3 you abruptly stop looking for your dad and start doing Wasteland survival experiments for Moira, only that's not actually part of the main quest at all.

Exactly, it's not a main quest. Faction quests are main quests in Fallout 4. The Minutemen are part of the main questline. Moira isn't a main quest, neither is she a faction leader.

I kind of wonder if the vault sequence isn't actually the best section for legitimate roleplaying in fallout 3.
It's not deep or anything like that, but the short set of vignettes where little events play out and the npcs do react to dialogue and actions actually feels more in-line with Fallout than the rest of the game.
3 once you get out of the vault is just shooting stuff and clicking through the most robotic dialogue imaginable. Very little of it ever feels like actual roleplay or 'crafting' a character.
>>
>>568135827
>You don't have to engage with it technically, but the game is set up in such a way where you're heavily encouraged to. It's definitely part of the main canon.
Correct, much like you don't have to do any of the side quests in Megaton. The only narratively necessary thing to actually do is get the intel on your dad and get out, but most players won't do that and the game design encourages you to explore, but it remains that's nothing to do with how the main quest is written.
No, it's not "canon" that the protag starts doing minutemen side quests when they get to Concord.
>Exactly, it's not a main quest. Faction quests are main quests in Fallout 4. The Minutemen are part of the main questline. Moira isn't a main quest, neither is she a faction leader.
All the more to how weak the writing in FO3 is, it does not even have factions or branching paths.
Only your point isn't about role playing systems FO3 does not have, it's about the game being designed in such a way to encourage pausing the MQ to do option quests, which the average FO3 player will spend an extensive time doing as soon as they enter Megaton.
>Why do you defend a game you haven't played?
The MQ after Freedom Calls is Jewel of the Commonwealth Act 1 follows a very linear progression from Codsworth says go to Concord, you meet Preston and the rest, they go to Sanctuary, there Mama Murphy tells you to go to Diamond City, you meet Piper, Piper points you towards Nick, then the rest of the act is about finding Kellogg.
The only scenario in which you have to do The First Step is if you want to support the Minutemen, and even in that scenario you can delay it until the last act of the game. Narratively it has nothing to do with finding Shaun, which, I remind you, your argument to begin with is that it's incoherent the game makes you pause that mission to do settlement quests for the Minutemen - as established, it doesn't.

3 is a re-imagining of 1 and is desolate and eerie
NV is a re-imagining of 2 and is hardly an apocalypse anymore. That's why I'm not a big fan of NV
4 flat out doesn't have any direction, while 76 is a tug-of-war between the legacy pre-wastelanders content and the nu content. 76 had it where everything was pristine but no one's around, as if you woke up one day and you were the only person on earth which had a really interesting feel. Oh yeah, another thing, the dad in FO3 is motivated by getting this purifier working and giving DC a supply of clean water, he kills himself and destroys the purifier to... stop Colonel Autumn from getting this purifier working and giving DC a supply of clean water.
Also somehow Autumn survives this suicide attack
>>

Autumn surviving was indeed gay but it was cathartic to kill him later. But James didn't destroy the purifier, and he knew he couldn't stop them from taking it either, but he could give his child and the remaining scientists enough time to escape before being captured. That's why he tells you to run.
>>
>>568138329
>but it remains that's nothing to do with how the main quest is written.
Except in 4 it has everything to do with how the MQ is written, because the side quests in 3 aren't part of the MQ; the faction questlines in 4 are. The boring as fuck Minutemen settlement quests are just as much a part of the MQ as any Brotherhood/Railroad/Institute quest, because they're a main faction. Moira isn't a main faction leader.
>All the more to how weak the writing in FO3 is, it does not even have factions or branching paths.
It does have the latter. You can choose to infect the purifier with FEV at the end and it will change things slightly. Broken Steel didn't do a good job at ramifying the consequences of your actions but it's DLC and a post-game was never intended. That just makes Fallout 4 look worse. The only elements that change in Fallout 4's faction endings are the nameless NPCs at checkpoints and the flag in Diamond City. There's some dialogue from select NPCs but the Commonwealth goes on as normal and no one cares.
>The only scenario in which you have to do The First Step is if you want to support the Minutemen, and even in that scenario you can delay it until the last act of the game
You technically can but it's not what they intended you to do. If you leave Preston and the gang at Sanctuary, they have no food or crops to survive off of, since you haven't planted any. They have no defenses, and everyone knows from the first quest that Preston can't take on five raiders without your help. Aside from that, the game literally gives you a quest marker to follow and incentivizes you to return to Sanctuary because it's the first time someone sounds like they might be able to help you save Shaun.
And of course, the settlement mechanics were a huge part of F4's marketing, so players will want to build things in Sanctuary. They might've already made it a player home before Preston even shows up there.
>>

You can technically side with them, by taking the poison from their ai president.
Thats also another problem, i assume when they wrote autumn they realized his motivations aren't really selfish or evil, so they just made the AI stuck in the F2 era enclave to provide contrast probably.
And even then siding with autumn against the AI sounds like a cool scenario.

1) There isn't. Additionally Autumn and Eden are clearly at odds. In a fully realized Fallout 3 with good writing he'd be a rebel Enclave faction much like Lyon's BoS, with a more moderate agenda.
2) The Enclave isn't portrayed negatively in any way before they shoot that bitch in the purifier.

Except your argument is the game interrupts your quest to find Shaun with Minutemen settlement quests. It objectively doesn't, you can of course do minutemen settlement quests if you want but the game gives you a narratively coherent linear path from concord to the Institute that you don't have to deviate from. By the time you actually have to engage with any of the faction questlines to advance the MQ the whole find Shaun plotline is already resolved.
> You can choose to infect the purifier with FEV at the end and it will change things slightly
Except that's not a branching path, you could just as well say Saints Row 3 has branching paths because at the very, very end after following the same questline every other playthrough will have you are given a choice of two endings.
New Vegas or Fallout 4 have branching paths because what exactly the MQ even is and what you will be doing deviates based on the choices you make. This doesn't happen in FO3, any choice in the MQ immediately just leads to the same step on the path as the alternative choice would have, even the ending thanks to Broken Steel.
> The only elements that change in Fallout 4's faction endings are the nameless NPCs at checkpoints and the flag in Diamond City.
Except
Whether the Institute exists
Whether the Railroad exists
Whether the Prydwen exists
Whether the Minutemen are a large regional military or literally just Preston.
Based on the choices you make you can wind up wiping out 1-3 in game hubs and/or creating another one at the Castle. The only choice you make in FO3 coming close to this level of scale is the ending to Broken Steel, where you choose whether or not to nuke the Citadel.
>you leave Preston and the gang at Sanctuary, they have no food or crops to survive off of, since you haven't planted any. They have no defenses, and everyone knows from the first quest that Preston can't take on five raiders without your help
Not your problem.
>>
>>568141418
>The Enclave isn't portrayed negatively in any way before they shoot that bitch in the purifier.
That's the very first quest they appear in, and from that point onwards, they:
>capture deathclaws and sic 'em on the local population
>set up outposts everywhere that attack you (and any wastelander) on sight
>hunt down your fellow vault dwellers if you destroy the vault
>even kidnap the old fuck from Megaton who won't stop ranting about the good old days

The writers really expected the player to forget about the entire Vault sequence by the time you reached Vault 112. James and even Li piss their pants over you leaving the vault and there is zero options to tell them that you were being hunted by the Overseer.
>>
>>568141029
Except Autumn explicitly does not want to genocide the Wasteland, he wants to take it over and use controlling access to clean water as a tool to do so.
This, btw, is literally the same thing the BoS are setting out to do. Only it's presented heroically when they do it.
>>
>>568141847

>>
>>568142029
Who actually runs the enclave, isn't it the AI president in control?
>>
>>568141847
none of that occurs before the PP sequence.
Furthermore, all that shit's arbitrary.
Fallout 3 can't even agree with itself on how the Enclave treats wastelanders because we get characters like Anna Holt who joins them because she's not retarded like James, or Stiggs in Broken Steel who was "nursed back to health" by them.
>>
>>568142113
The enclave are fighting each other. Eden has robots killing enclave soldiers to help you escape.
>>
>>568142113
good question.
Notice how the Enclave still has a functioning chain of command even after both Eden and Autumn are gone.
The writers didn't give a shit, they just wanted a bad guy organization.
>>
>>568141936
>Except Autumn explicitly does not want to genocide the Wasteland, he wants to take it over and use controlling access to clean water as a tool to do so.
This is actually one aspect where Fallout 3 does fail, but not because of what you've mentioned (because you're wrong). Fallout 3 expects the player to have some prior knowledge of the Enclave's ambitions in Fallout 2 to know why they shouldn't have any control over a vital resource like clean water.

The Enclave isn't just genocidal, but caste-based and prejudiced. Even wastelanders in their ranks like Anna Holt wouldn't be treated as well as their pure untainted stock. The society they wish to create, whether they want to eradicate wastelanders or not, is inherently racist and segregationist.

And that's disregarding all of the other reasons why you shouldn't like the Enclave. They're willing to make their vice president a retard and sacrifice the last remnants of their untainted stock (vault dwellers) so they can have complete, uncontested control over the wasteland. Eden and Autumn hate the Brotherhood of Steel from the beginning even before any conflict between them erupts simply because Lyons controls the Pentagon.
>>
The issue at hand is the question of whether James killing himself to prevent enclave control of the purifier is valid. There is no reason presented to the player at any point prior to instill a negative impression of the enclave. The shooting of that scientist is the only thing, and I'm prepared to overlook that. James killing himself and damaging the purifier doesn't seem like a proportional response.

He never says anything about them. There are no diary or terminal entries about them. You're just supposed to accept them as the baddies. Cartoonish villains.
>>
>>568142148
>Fallout 3 can't even agree with itself on how the Enclave treats wastelanders because we get characters like Anna Holt who joins them because she's not retarded like James, or Stiggs in Broken Steel who was "nursed back to health" by them.
Because Eden is a puppet and Autumn is a pragmatist who understands the potential of having the Project Purity scientists on his team. Did you play the game? How does this contradict anything from it?
>>
>>568142773
You say this while the hero faction of the game is also a caste based feudal aristocracy that depending on leadership varies from viewing wastelanders as hostile savages to ignorant barbarians and which 3 already sets up evolving into a hereditary monarchy via the Maxson dynasty
Autumn’s whole plan is basically just do what the BoS are doing. Total mutant death, control the water, be the feudal overlords of the wasteland
>>
>>568143389
>You say this while the hero faction of the game is also a caste based feudal aristocracy that depending on leadership varies from viewing wastelanders as hostile savages to ignorant barbarians
Lyons Brotherhood recruits wastelanders and treats them no differently to their own members. Just look at Paladin Kodiak. Surely there would be some level of prejudice from some in their ranks, but it's never apparent in Fallout 3.
That's the reason why the outcasts split from Lyons. Lyons disobeyed the orders of the western elders.
>Autumn’s whole plan is basically just do what the BoS are doing. Total mutant death, control the water, be the feudal overlords of the wasteland
>Total mutant death
Wait a second, you just told me Autumn doesn't want total mutant death? You just told me he wants to start the purifier and distribute the water? Now he's out for blood?
Pick an argument.
And no, the Brotherhood do not want "total mutant death". They want to kill super mutants and ghouls (in some cases), but only because they pose an actual threat to humanity. The "mutants" that the Enclave hates ARE the same humans that they were supposed to protect as the USgov.
>>
>>568144695
Except if we are supposed to extrapolate what we see about the Enclave in 2 the Enclave in 3 and Bethesda expects us to know this, why are you making an exception for the BoS? We also see the Enclave recruiting and we don’t see how they are regarded within the organisation, we can presume based on classic lore but in that scenario we’re also forced to presume classic lore applies to the BoS. Which based on the direction they take in 4 isn’t unfounded.
> Wait a second, you just told me Autumn doesn't want total mutant death?
He does want TMD, but TMD for him means the same thing it means to the BoS, all the super mutants and ghouls, not the ordinary wasteland serfs. This is what he explains in 3 with the whole Eden/Autumn subplot.
> They want to kill super mutants and ghouls (in some cases
In all cases
Even in 3 when Lyon’s runs the BoS and it’s uncharacteristically altruistic the ghouls in Underworld will tell you the BoS shoot at them on sight.

>We also see the Enclave recruiting
We see them recruit one or two people from the Project Purity team, and clearly only because they needed to repair the purifier after James sabotaged it.
>They wanted information. About Doctor Li, about Project Purity. They want to know how to start it up, and why it wouldn't work.
>I told them everything I could. About the G.E.C.K., about the damage caused by the explosions... All of it.
So we're not meant to believe this a regular occurrence. We're meant to believe that these are anomalies because James didn't comply.
>They wanted information. About Doctor Li, about Project Purity. They want to know how to start it up, and why it wouldn't work.
Where does he say that he even wants to benefit wastelanders? Most of his dialogue is classic Enclave spiel about saving people, but he doesn't actually specify who he sees as people. He says things like "people of the Capital Wasteland" on Enclave radio, but so does Eden. He says that the wasteland will flock to him for "clean wah-tah", but what happens after that? Do they face the wall?
>Which based on the direction they take in 4 isn’t unfounded.
The Brotherhood in 4 don't want to kill wastelanders, they want to save them from an inhuman threat they see as a danger to both their own control over the East Coast and the Commonwealth's people. What the Enclave sees as a threat to humanity are the same humans they are supposed to protect.
>Even in 3 when Lyon’s runs the BoS and it’s uncharacteristically altruistic the ghouls in Underworld will tell you the BoS shoot at them on sight.
It's stated but we never see them do this. We can infer from the surrounding area and the state of downtown D.C. that they can't, because between Underworld and the Washington Monument is a massive trench filled with super mutants where their resources would be utilized more effectively.

Recruiting only competent individuals with skills you need is bad because...?
>So we're not meant to believe this a regular occurrence....
Only we also see Stiggs and he had nothing to do with PP.
>Where does he say that he even wants to benefit wastelanders?
The game spells this out several times. For one Autumn says
>Once this facility is operational, the masses will flock to the Enclave for fresh water, protection, and a plan for the future.
Eden says more. Eden, who wants to poison the water supply and kill everyone, explicitly spells out that Autumn does not want to do that and so he needs your help. It's with Eden that this would Autumn-rebel subplot is mainly exposited. For example
>Ah, yes. Colonel Autumn. My trusted subordinate. I'm sure you've noticed that Colonel Autumn and I do not see eye-to-eye these days, figuratively speaking of course. The good Colonel and I disagree on how best to approach the problem of the Wasteland. He feels my methods are too extreme. He has allowed his humanity to cloud his objectivity. And now that he is publicly countermanding my orders, I can no longer rely on him. And so I turn to you. I hope that you are able to see the larger picture, to understand what's at stake. And of course, if you are successful, there is a place for you in the Enclave. Perhaps you could succeed the Colonel as my confidant.
Eden straight up tells you Autumn has no intention of poisoning the water, when Autumn is talking about "the masses" he is in fact talking about the Wastelanders he intends to rule, not kill.
>The Brotherhood in 4...
And also conquer them, force them to hand over their crops at gunpoint, and kill anyone who gets in their way, then exterminate all ghouls, super mutants, and Synths. How is this even different to what Autumn was intending on doing?
>that they can't,
So the only reason the BoS don't already exterminate Underworld in 3 is for lack of opportunity. By 4 they almost certainly already have.
>>
>>568143362
>Did you play the game? How does this contradict anything from it?
Did you explore any of the enclave camps and see them killing wastelanders?
The most you actually get is Autumn on the radio telling townsfolk to stay out of their way, but of course they'll still shoot any NPCs they come across because soldiers are just hostile towards everyone.

That's in Broken Steel when Eden has already been destroyed along with Raven Rock, Autumn is dead (player can spare him but he's never seen again), and the Capital contingent of the Enclave are literally on their last legs. We already established that they needed scientists and were willing to recruit Holt for this, it's not a stretch to assume that they needed engineers too, especially after their defeat in Raven Rock.
>The game spells this out several times. For one Autumn says
>>Once this facility is operational, the masses will flock to the Enclave for fresh water, protection, and a plan for the future.

We already know that. It's literally why him and Eden are at odds. You're not understanding my point. I'm asking what Autumn plans to do AFTER he activates the purifier. He might disagree with Eden's methods but not the outcome. Of course, it's never really explained in Fallout 3 what Autumn plans to do after the wasteland flocks to him. Does he bake them a cake? Take them out for dinner?

>We will match up the destitute, orphaned children of the Capital Wasteland with qualified, eligible adults.
It's obviously just typical Enclave spiel about "helping people" (wiping them out).
>And also conquer them, force them to hand over their crops at gunpoint,
It's not actually authorized by the Brotherhood, it's something Teagan came up with which Maxson is oblivious to.

>>568151154
>and kill anyone who gets in their way, then exterminate all ghouls, super mutants, and Synths. How is this even different to what Autumn was intending on doing?
Because they're not humans. The Enclave doesn't see wastelanders as humans but they are, they share the exact same physiology as an ordinary human, their genetics are just slightly mutated from living in a radioactive dump for decades. Super mutants, synths, and ghouls, are definitely not human. They have completely different physical anatomy to an ordinary human. They are also threats to humanity. In 1, 3, NV, 4, and 76, many of them attack humans on sight, and the few peaceful ones that don't suffer from schizophrenia (like the nightkin) or slowly become feral (like the ghouls). In EVERY single instance of the Enclave being in a Fallout game, they have attacked peaceful wastelanders, created fatal diseases (like the scorched plague) or created abominations (like the scorchbeasts).
The Brotherhood didn't do any of that.

>That's literally what all factions do tho, the NCR are probably the most successful practitioners of that in Fallout history.
The NCR doesn't kill people who don't join them. They pressure them into conceding their power economically. This is what happens in Fallout 2 with Vault City, the NCR along with the Bishop crime family hires mercenaries to hassle them in order to get them to concede their own sovereignty and ask the NCR for protection, and then the NCR moves in and taxes them, but it's never based on their genetics. The NCR is more like a feudal-capitalist society than a fascist one. You can also see this with Primm in NV. The NCR created the problem with NCRCF being overrun and spilling out into the neighboring towns, and they refuse to solve the problem until the player comes along and does it for them. At that point they see an easy political victory and swoop in to claim the glory.
>Which is part of Fallout 3
The point wasn't that it's not part of Fallout 3.
The point was that it's AFTER Autumn and Eden have already been defeated.
>For however long Stiggs has been with the Enclave it is long enough to have recovered from extreme radiation poisoning and attained a position of knowledge about their systems
The player recovers from extreme radiation poisoning in two weeks AND destroys Adams AFB along with multiple Enclave bases in that time. Clearly it's possible, even going by the DLC's own lore.
>Clearly not kill them because if that was the plan there would be no need to disagree with Eden.
Just because Autumn doesn't want to wipe them all out doesn't mean he doesn't want to do extremely evil, harmful things to them. Just look at what he does to Nathan from Megaton who won't stop singing their praises. His men attack wastelanders on sight at random Enclave checkpoints scattered across the wasteland. Just because he doesn't want to kill everyone doesn't mean he doesn't to kill or negatively affect the majority of people.
>>
>>568157125
> The NCR doesn't kill people who don't join them
If the NCR want what you’ve got they will subjugate you and if you resist they will kill you. Part of the background lore of NV isn’t just their wars against the BoS and the Khans, where at least they were arguably the aggressors, are also their wars against unassimilated tribals to the west. This is where General Oliver and Kimball built their careers, they are blatantly presented as an expansionist force and a pistache of the 19th century USA
> The point was that it's AFTER Autumn and Eden have already been defeated.
Literally two weeks ago. Am I supposed to believe Stiggs recovered from extreme radiation poisoning and attained familiarity with the systems of a giant air force base in under two weeks?
> The player recovers from extreme radiation poisoning in two weeks AND destroys Adams AFB along with multiple Enclave bases in that time.
Remember, you’re trying to argue 3 had good writing.
> Just because Autumn doesn't want to wipe them all out doesn't mean he doesn't want to do extremely evil, harmful things to them.

>Yeah and Eden also tries to recruit you into his exterminate all wastelanders plan and claims Autumn disagrees with it.
Both of them solely need you for the code and after that they wouldn't mind disposing of you. Eden only uses you as a pawn in the power struggle between him and Autumn.
>Yeah bruh, Maxson, the guy who orders his own soldiers executed for genetic impurity and praises you for ensuring all civilians are blown up with the Institute is totally going to have a problem with a little feudalism.
>genetic impurity
Synths aren't humans and the Brotherhood sees them as a threat to humanity on the East Coast, (which they totally are btw). The Brotherhood eliminating all the Institute scientists also isn't an act of racial bigotry, it's a military execution of hostile combatants.
>Yeah Danse is a pretty good guy that doesn't change the fact that the organisation he's working for is tyrannical as fuck.
Danse isn't a "guy", not from the Brotherhood's POV at least.
I disagree with the Brotherhood's stance on synths too, but killing non-humans who could turn hostile at the drop of a hat is far more morally justifiable than killing humans because they've adapted to a wasteland that the Enclave themselves helped create (going by the 76 and the TV show).
>And Fallout 3 makes it clear the whole Eden/Autumn subplot is entirely about the fact that Autumn does not want to kill the ordinary wastelanders.
We can see Enclave troops killing ordinary wastelanders (and even vault dwellers) in random encounters all the time. Also he imprisons Nathan from Megaton, probably to use him in experiments, as they have done in the past with tribals in Fallout 2.

>Plus, ghouls 100% objectively are human, they're just suffering from extreme radiation deformities.
They're not humans. They might've been humans at some point, but their biology has been completely altered. According to Bethesda lore, they don't need to eat or drink, and they can become feral after long periods of continued exposure to radiation. They're as different to humans as super mutants are.
>In every Fallout game you also consistently run into crazy non-deformed people that attack people on sight. In fact that's probably the most common type of enemy.
The racial factor plays into this a lot. In the very same game you can peacefully move ghouls into a luxury resort and they wipe out the inhabitants because they hate humans. Ghouls would also probably stink of decaying flesh and go feral on occasion when living in human communities, so it makes sense for humans to ostracize them (and for them to be seen as threats). It's a primal defense mechanism instilled in humans. It makes sense for the Brotherhood to hate ghouls.

I dunno. The Wattz guns were used by the military. The Laser Rifles come out of military bases on the west coast which is why the Unity, BoS and Enclave have them. And the Wattz pistols you find are explicitly mentioned be underpowered civilian models.

Irrelevant to my point that Autumn genuinely does have no intention of exterminating the wastelanders

In absence of the Institute, why exactly are they a threat to humanity?
>The Brotherhood eliminating all the Institute scientists also isn't an act of racial bigotry, it's a military execution of hostile combatants.
Except they're not hostile combatants, they're scientists, some of them are even adolescents. Exactly 0% of the Institute's human population are combatants because they exclusively use synths for all of that. The BoS are the only faction in FO4 that is so evil the actively encouraged option is to kill them all, both the Railroad and the Minutemen are just focused on destroying the infrastructure and minimising casualties.
>but killing non-humans who could turn hostile at the drop of a hat is far more morally justifiable than killing humans because they've adapted to a wasteland that the Enclave themselves helped create
I agree.
Only my point is James KHS to keep PP from Autumn and that is explicitly not Autumn's goal, in fact what's explained about his idea sounds barely any different to what the BoS wind up doing.
>We can see Enclave troops killing ordinary wastelanders (and even vault dwellers) in random encounters all the time. Also he imprisons Nathan from Megaton, probably to use him in experiments, as they have done in the past with tribals in Fallout 2.

>They might've been humans at some point, but their biology has been completely altered.
Taxonomically speaking ghouls cannot possibly be said to be a species of their own because they cannot reproduce. The only way ghouls can appear is from humans exposed to radiation while also possessing whatever poorly understood predisposition it is that enables ghoulification.
Likewise, you have a point, Super Mutants are also objectively scientifically human and this is put beyond all doubt in 4 when Virgil proves it can be cured (the BoS have this guy murdered btw).
>It makes sense for the Brotherhood to hate ghouls.
Maybe it does but my point is based on what we see in the games the BoS don't actually have that much ideological differentiation from the Autumnclave.

The NCR are the most Jewish motherfuckers in Fallout. I'm working on a Fallout 4 weapon mod pack and I'm trying to decide which system works best to handle modular iron sights at the workbench. What do you think works best, should I make iron sights a separate optics part that is manually installed, and basically allow weapons to have a No Sights option as well, that's easier to implement, or should I instead make them part of the receiver like pic related and hide them with transparent textures when there's an optic on, which is cleaner but forces all optics to list all possible texture swaps? Ignore the rainbow puke, that's a nifskope thing.

they've still got assets sitting in the files for years that they've done nothing with. most notably, the R-91, Sten, Hydraulospanner, and custom firing sounds for a Chinese Assault Rifle that go unused, despite there being multiple CAR skins for the Handmade.

>>568198618
I like the first option so it could be combined with a reflex sight if you choose to use one.
>>
>>568202480
Thanks for the tip anon. Yes, that's another thing, that way I can also put sights and optics into separate categories and allow for more variety like that. Not to mention that I can then reuse rail mounted sights on other weapons without having to have 50 million material swaps to hide the base iron sights on every possible receiver they can go on.
I will have guaranteed clipping on some configurations that way though, like with the AR15 carry handle, but there's not much I can do about that, sometimes we have to concede a bit over engine limitations.

I like the skill checks. It gives the player more opportunity to roleplay in a personality-oriented way, rather than merely choosing what weapon to kill things with. The TES series is especially bad with that, as your only options (with anything else being an exception) in quests being play/pause. You have to RP by ignoring content.

>That is the whole origin of this argument thread. If you came in later without being aware of that then that's on you.
Can you quote where I claimed that Fallout 3 had good writing? Someone said it had better writing than 4 and I agreed with them, but that doesn't mean it's well-written. It just means it's not as bad as the worst written Fallout game in the series.
>Unless they happen to have some laser guns or refuse to hand over their feudal tribute.
First off, why would you stockpile laser guns unless you were planning to use them in violent scenarios? Second, as we established before, Teagan isn't even operating under standard Brotherhood regs; he's deliberately acting off his own accord.
>Who was in the Mojave first?
Does it matter? I'm pretty sure the radscorpion population were chilling in the Mojave long before the NCR too.
The Khans are aggressors that pillage and raid NCR caravans, attempt to cut off their trade routes, attack and kill innocent settlers, and are otherwise a PITA for everyone including the NCR. Wiping them out is a noble cause, and the fact that it's all but canon that every protagonist has done so is proof of that.

>Taxonomically speaking ghouls cannot possibly be said to be a species of their own because they cannot reproduce
This is bullshit. Neither can mules btw.
>Maybe it does but my point is based on what we see in the games the BoS don't actually have that much ideological differentiation from the Autumnclave.
The problem with the Enclave isn't that they want to eradicate super mutants and ghouls. While some can be amicable (like Marcus or Raul), the vast majority of them are susceptible to violent schizophrenia/radiation-induced chimpouts. Most understand that ghouls and super muties are crimes against nature, and putting them down is an act of mercy. As cruel as it may seem, they are man-made horrors.
That being said, the Enclave doesn't just stop at killing those with a strong predisposition towards violence, they kill or marginalize those with mild genetic disparity. In other words, most of their citizens, but they don't see them as their citizens.
Hell they even murder and experiment on their own pure-bred stock. The storied history of VT's involvement with the Enclave is testament to the fact that the Enclave don't mind killing or purposefully mutating their own pure-bred stock to serve their evil ends.

>Irrelevant to my point that Autumn genuinely does have no intention of exterminating the wastelanders
Okay but where's the evidence that he has no intention of exterminating wastelanders? Because every Enclave leader speaks about saving people and shit.
>In absence of the Institute, why exactly are they a threat to humanity?
>Except they're not hostile combatants, they're scientists, some of them are even adolescents.
Because like Dr. Li, many of them can go on to work for other factions. This is also how war criminals are treated irl btw, many former nazis were hunted, tried, prosecuted and sometimes executed years after the fact. This is also how the NCR treated the Enclave remnants. The BoS is simply dishing out wasteland justice from their POV.

>This is bullshit. Neither can mules btw.
Mules aren't a species either, they're a sterile hybrid.
A species is a group of organisms that can breed fertile offspring within that group. Neither super mutants nor ghouls can possibly be a species scientifically speaking, they're not born, they can't reproduce, they're objectively just extremely mutated and deformed humans.
>, they kill or marginalize those with mild genetic disparity.
Except this is a the core of the argument.
The plot of FO3 does not make sense because (for one) James' suicide gambit is entirely about keeping PP out of Autumn's hands. The game also spells out Autumn doesn't want to kill the Wastelanders. The game then has us give PP to the BoS, who also have supremacist aristocratic attitudes about wastelanders. It does not establish a coherent villain when you think about it for longer than a minute.
>>
>>568219636
>Okay but where's the evidence that he has no intention of exterminating wastelanders?
1 on 1, Eden tells you what his evil master plan is (poison the water and kill all wastelanders), tries to recruit you to help him carry it out, and tells you Autumn declines to do it for him.
Then you can convince Eden to blow himself up by reminding him people have feelings. Then poison the water anyway. Because FO3's story doesn't even try to make sense.
>This is also how war criminals are treated irl btw, many former nazis were hunted, tried, prosecuted and sometimes executed years after the fact.
Except they're not hunting down Institute members and putting them on trial. Maxson encourages nuking the entire city and ensuring all synths, men, women and children are trapped inside to die in it. It's more like if the allies ending WW2 by just exterminating the entire German population than targeting any particular people.
>>
>>568221386
>A species is a group of organisms that can breed fertile offspring within that group
A species is a group of animals and plants that share common characteristics. If we were going by a strict taxonomical definition like "can they breed?", we wouldn't be able to reasonably deduce that most extinct fossils did in fact belong to a unique species.
>The game also spells out Autumn doesn't want to kill the Wastelanders
I keep asking but WHERE does he say this? Because you haven't actually provided any evidence of what he plans to do with the hordes of useless wastelanders that are totally reliant on his totally epic extremely awesome water purifier. The Enclave recruited two extremely unique wastelanders with talents that they needed to carry out their plans, that doesn't mean they plan to help useless fucks like the numerous wasteland beggars we see laying around.
>The game then has us give PP to the BoS, who also have supremacist aristocratic attitudes about wastelanders. It does not establish a coherent villain when you think about it for longer than a minute.

Alright, then that's where we disagree, because FO4's writing is at least internally consistent.
>First off, why would you stockpile laser guns unless you were planning to use them in violent scenarios?
1. Do you not see the hypocrisy here?
2. The planet is crawling with lethal dangers and everyone walks around carrying weapons because everyone knows to be prepared for violent scenarios.
>The Khans are aggressors that pillage and raid NCR caravans, attempt to cut off their trade routes, attack and kill innocent settlers, and are otherwise a PITA for everyone including the NCR.
Even the Kings, a relatively benevolent and orderly faction, know that NCR settlers are just the vanguard of NCR occupation. If you let them have their way, soon enough NCR troops will be here to steal taxes and push their laws at gunpoint. If you retaliate they'll use that as a pretext to attack anyway. It's a zero win situation. Which goes back to the original point, it's standard practice for any faction to subjugate whatever they want and kill whoever gets in their way, and the NCR are the best at this in Fallout history.
Are the khans dickheads? Yes. Were the NCR good bois who dindu nuffin? No, their presence in the mojave was transparently expansionist and victimhood just provides a useful excuse.

Just because Autumn doesn't want to infect the water with superAIDS doesn't mean he wants to help common wasteland litter like the bumbling retards you see begging for clean water outside cities either. Like what an absolute leap. You're arguing that Autumn wants to save the wasteland because he claims to want to do that, despite the fact Eden + literally everyone else also have the same exact spiel. Then you're arguing that he wants to save the wasteland because he doesn't want to kill them all either. Like what?
He doesn't want to eliminate 99% of people, he wants to eliminate only 60% of them, but that's fine and dandy and makes him just like Lyons for some reason.

In-group fertility is literally the most foundation litmus of specieshood before anything else can be considered. This definition
>A species is a group of animals and plants that share common characteristics.
Is too vague to be usable because it just sets up a undefinable gradient. How many common characteristics do you need to be human?
>I keep asking but WHERE does he say this?
I already quoted Autumn and Eden on this subject. The answer, is not kill them. You already know this. You're now just grasping at straws trying to say even if he doesn't want to kill them surely he's up to no good anyway.
Which is the problem with FO3's writing. Because if using a water purifier as a political tool to take over DC for an undemocratic government is evil, then so are the BoS. This is the problem with FO3's writing (one of them anyway), Emil put like 10 seconds of thought into why the Enclave are evil and why the BoS are good, you're just supposed to see the bad guys with the black armour and the dreadful music versus the good guys with the silver armor and the heroic music

>Do you not see the hypocrisy here?
What a conundrum. LMAO.
>You criticize people with laser weapons, yet you hoard laser weapons. I am very smart!
If people knew how to use technology sensibly, there wouldn't be a need for the BoS.
>everyone knows to be prepared for violent scenarios.
And why do you need a stockpile of laser weapons for that purpose? Where would you even find that many laser weapons?
The BoS aren't confiscating 9mms, they're confiscating highly advanced technology that no wastelander should ever reasonably have.
>Even the Kings, a relatively benevolent and orderly faction, know that NCR settlers are just the vanguard of NCR occupation.
The King and his goons are passively hostile towards any outsiders, not just NCR settlers. The King doesn't attack them though because he knows it will give the NCR a reason to move against him. Pacer's goons attack NCR settlers and overcharge them for water and protection without the King's knowledge or consent. In short, you're right, but that doesn't make the Khans justified.
>Were the NCR good bois who dindu nuffin? No, their presence in the mojave was transparently expansionist and victimhood just provides a useful excuse.
You have to understand that the Mojave before the NCR showed up was a wartorn shithole. The Strip before House was home to warring tribals, some of whom were cannibals like the White Gloves for example. House and the NCR (and even the Legion presence in some regards) are literally the only reasons why the Mojave is as a safe as it is in NV, even if it really isn't.
>Player: Okay, what are you supposed to be doing?
>Hanlon: To protect against all forms of tyranny. As simple as that. Thirty, forty years ago, the wasteland was full of despots. Slavers. Raiders. Tough-talking hoodlums with gangs who liked to kick around towns. Back then the NCR military was still young. Couldn't cover much ground. It took groups like ours to tip the balance back to the good guys.

I’m not arguing Autumn is actually benevolent, I’m arguing the game gives you zero reason for why James kills himself and bricks the purifier. Does James even know who the Enclave are? We never find out. What do the Enclave want with it? This is where the writing really eats its own tail because we later find out Autumn’s master plan is… get the purifier working as intended and use control of water to take over the area. Which is literally the same thing we are helping the BoS do. But somehow it was necessary for James to KHS to prevent Autumn doing that.
Also Autumn somehow survives this organ melting radiation with plot armor.
FO4, for all its faults, is never this level of retarded
> There are no courts in the wasteland

Not kill WHO?
If the modified FEV is meant to wipe out the entire mutated wasteland population, and Autumn only wants to kill half of it, that makes him as good as Lyons in your opinion?
Sounds great to me. Autumn doesn't want to kill EVERYONE, he just wants to kill MOST people. But that's fine right?! Just like the good old Bruthahood of Steal I know!
What game are we playing again?
>Because if using a water purifier as a political tool to take over DC for an undemocratic government is evil, then so are the BoS
Except it's never treated as a political tool by Lyons, more an act of genuine altruism. Sure this leads to positive political outcomes for his faction, but Lyons runs a distribution center that distributes clean water to surrounding settlements without imposing Brotherhood control on them. It's different to how Maxson does things in 4, where it's mostly political. When Project Purity first started, Lyons offered protection and funding for the project in a time where the Brotherhood was the only organized power in the CW. For 19 years, Project Purity laid dormant, the project collapsed. Lyons never even assisted Project Purity until the Enclave had already took the purifier, and he didn't do jack shit about it until they kidnapped the player character. It never even crossed his mind until the last second where Dr. Li and Sarah have the convince him to even move troops in.
>What happens to this caste-based feudal aristocracy when Lyons dies?

It’s a laser gun, it is situationally somewhat more effective than a ballistic gun. The BoS will still mug you for it.
Plus, there aren’t many factions in Fallout that use technology more irresponsibly than the BoS. They are singularly interested in hoarding a monopoly on advanced weapons which they exclusively use for violence. They use weapons of mass destruction at whim. Their express purpose is to hamper any development of the wasteland. Mr. House was 100% correct about them and the impossibility of their coexistence with a resurgent Vegas.
> You have to understand that the Mojave before the NCR showed up was a wartorn shithole. The Strip before House was home to warring tribals, some
Vegas before House showed up was a war torn shithole, and the only part that still isn’t a war torn shithole is the part Mr. House controls and it’s immediate orbit.
The NCR didn’t bring peace to the region, they brought more war and they barely control the areas they have. Outer Vegas is more run by the fiends than by the NCR. They inadvertently created a completely new raider gang wholesale via the Powder Gangers. They completely fail at stopping the Legion or even random 2 bit raider gangs like the Vipers or the Jackals from terrorising the southern and eastern parts of the map. The only places on FNV where you’ll find any order or security are not the places controlled by the NCR. Their very limited sphere of influence is still lawless wasteland
Even the Boomers or the Kings or the Jacobstown mutants do a better job policing their turf

>I’m not arguing Autumn is actually benevolent, I’m arguing the game gives you zero reason for why James kills himself and bricks the purifier.
Genuine question: if you built a super duper water purifier to save an entire region suffering from dehydration in the aftermath of total nuclear devastation, and some hoity toity Louisianan man came flying in on an attack helicopter threatening to kill you if you didn't hand over your project to his organization (of which tried to murder the entire region that they were previously headquartered in), would you do it?
Because at that point, James didn't have any idea what Autumn even planned to do with it. It's not like Autumn monologued at him for an hour beforehand. He must've not peeked too far ahead in the script notes. Our PC knows that Autumn doesn't want to kill EVERYONE like Eden does (again that doesn't mean he doesn't want to kill MOST of the population), but James certainly didn't at that point in time.

But they are racist (if that word is even applicable to prejudice based on radioactive mutations), they just have a slightly more inclusive definition of how many mutations are acceptable.
My point, is that if your entire argument is contingent on Lyon’s leadership, I shouldn’t need to point out Lyon’s is a geriatric old man.
Plus, James doesn’t even have any of this information snyway.

>>
>>568226684
>It’s a laser gun, it is situationally somewhat more effective than a ballistic gun. The BoS will still mug you for it.
Anyone who owns a laser weapon 200 years after a nuclear war likely has knowledge on how to service and maintain it. That knowledge is what should be kept safe, not the weapons themselves. MF cells utilize highly efficient energy storage that can be used to build improvized explosives.
>Their express purpose is to hamper any development of the wasteland.
The foundational idea behind the Brotherhood is that people don't deserve autonomy over dangerous technologies because they will inevitably use it for morally incomprehensible things, like the FEV experiments at Mariposa for instance. This ideological perspective that pervades every facet of Brotherhood ideology has been validated time and time again, most obviously through the Great War and the state of the Divide in Lonesome Road.
>Vegas before House showed up was a war torn shithole, and the only part that still isn’t a war torn shithole is the part Mr. House controls and it’s immediate orbit.
Exactly why the NCR is justified in saying that they're bringing order to the Mojave. House is isolated to his own economic zone in Vegas, the rest of the Mojave is left undefended.
>The NCR didn’t bring peace to the region, they brought more war and they barely control the areas they have
They simply heightened the scale of violence. The Mojave's battles before they showed up were mainly localized and one-sided (raiders killing settlers). That being said, the settlers in the Mojave are still safer under any of the main factions, including the NCR, than under total anarchy where raider gangs like the Fiends can multiply and expand without consequence.

Given that this seems to be the norm within Brotherhood territories, you could reasonably extrapolate the presence of a school in NV's hidden valley bunker to mean that Lyons/Maxson's chapter would also have schools for the kids they recruit, and we know they do thanks to the existence of Kodiak and child squires from Fallout 4.

Okay so the BoS is "keeping people safe" by killing everyone that is too educated in case they use their knowledge of engineering and chemistry to build IEDs.
>This ideological perspective that pervades every facet of Brotherhood ideology has been validated time and time again, most obviously through the Great War and the state of the Divide in Lonesome Road.
The Brotherhood's fanatical ideology is response for more active, deliberate use of WMD's than any other faction in the game, besides the Enclave. They go to war with the NCR and attempt to use orbital artillery against them, they use nuclear weapons against the Enclave, they use nuclear weapons against the Institute. Given the Enclave's destruction they are the single biggest hazard for another apocalyptic war.
>Exactly why the NCR is justified in saying that they're bringing order to the Mojave. House is isolated to his own economic zone in Vegas, the rest of the Mojave is left undefended.
House is isolated to his zone because he needs the platinum macguffin and doesn't want to start a war with the NCR occupying the place (ineffectively). The House ending to NV is the whole region becomes Strip jurisdiction, with some isolated exceptions like the Boomers.
>They simply heightened the scale of violence.

>Veronica: And nearly died for it. Tomorrow you'd do it all over again, having learned nothing.
>McNamara: Are you trying to shame me?

>they use nuclear weapons against the Institute
Because Fallout 4 is retarded and contradicts itself. They had to have all three factions share the same ending to cut corners. In FNV, disabling the nukes in the Divide grants you Brotherhood fame, regardless of whether or not they're allied with the NCR, because the Brotherhood don't condone the use of nuclear weapons.
>House is isolated to his zone because he needs the platinum macguffin and doesn't want to start a war with the NCR occupying the place (ineffectively)
It has less to do with the NCR and more to do with the fact he can't establish his power over the Mojave (or even maintain power over the Strip) without his Mark II army. If you complete the Independent ending without upgrading the securitrons or activating his army, the Mojave is left in chaos regardless, and the Strip plunges into chaos as Freesiders migrate there.

This is why the Midwestern Brotherhood are great. We see them actively make an attempt to reintroduce concepts like these to wider society. In Fallout 3, it made sense why we don't see these things; the Brotherhood is fighting a war on two fronts against two dangerous adversaries, the CW is engaged in constant war, and there's no central state or jurisdiction with enough resources or influence to establish institutions like that. In Broken Steel, Lyons tells us verbatim that he doesn't think "we'll be referring to it as the wasteland anymore", because Project Purity was the first step in an effort to actively rebuild. In Fallout 4, we see Maxson's Brotherhood, and apart from the Prydwen, they're still as primitive as the Brotherhood was in FO1. The Midwestern Brotherhood were actually successful in creating a post-Brotherhood, functional wasteland society where the Brotherhood's legacy lingers on as people become more cautious and sensible with technology, but Bethesda refuses to even acknowledge it as canon, likely because they want to keep things a crappy wasteland sandbox with scrap huts.
Taken from the endings of Tactics:
>>courts/law
>The region sees new laws established to ease humanity back into civilized life, laws that are strictly enforced by the combined patrols of Brotherhood soldiers and pacification robots.
>>schools
>New settlements spring up as land becomes fertile once again, with places of learning becoming the hubs of the fledgling civilization.
>>clean water
>Technology is slowly re-introduced into the land; irrigation systems are established bringing water to the barren soils for the first time in decades.
For healthcare/hospitals, it's not mentioned in the endings IIRC, but it's mentioned earlier on in the game that the Midwestern BoS uses healthcare to incentivize tribals to join them, so clearly they have some level of decent healthcare.

76 is a better RPG than 4. You're just some no name vault dweller who gets given the hard task of "rebuilding America" and finding the overseer, but soon you find out that the real mission was to secure Vault-Tec's secret missile silos, and then that leads to ending the scorched plague. You have faction questlines that run parallel to each other, so finding your missing baby is never a motivating factor for joining the main factions and they're totally isolated from your character's non-existent backstory.

The perk card system is far more complex than the perk grid from 4, and you can swap builds at any time. The dialogue system gives you more options, a silent protagonist, the return of skill checks, etc.

The map is larger and has a lot more to do.

76 wipes its ass with Fallout 4. I hope Bethesda Austin get to make Fallout 5 if Obsidian/inXile doesn't. Bethesda's main studio in Maryland can make TES VI during their bathroom breaks.

Fallout 4 has more modernised gunplay compared to New Vegas. Also, New Vegas has greater emphasis on narrative elements, so it's not as easy to get in to, compared to the more fun-oriented looter shooter Fallout 4. I imagine you already have and know how to use either Buffout or Addictol to have access to the crash logs
You could try using Classic to see if it helps you reading them - sometimes it helps other times it doesn't

Does it crash anywhere after a bit or do you feel like it's x region of the game?

Sounds like something is trying to load then and crashing because of it
You could always do the worst thing possible - troubleshooting turning mods on and off and see which ones may be causing this
Did you try starting a new game and was the game still crashing in the new save?
>>
>>568294710
Yeah, new save about two hours old now. Crashed maybe 4 or 5 times during. A lot of these fixes that Addictol combines I don't have so maybe one of these will help? Honestly i'm worried it's my PC, but only Bethesda games crash for me, others don't so maybe not. Worse comes to worse i'll do the ol' disable half the load order trick. Issue is that the crash is random, never in the same spot. Thanks for your help regardless.

Well shit. Putting irons and sights in separate part categories breaks aiming because the game engine aggregates the sight translations each of them applies to stay perfectly centered when aiming down sights. Eg.: if the iron sights apply a Z+1.5 translation and the scope applies a Z+2, with both in place you end up with a Z+3.5 when aiming down sights which goes completely off-center. Pic related, sighting stays perfectly centered on the target going from hip to ADS'ing with only one or the other, but with both in place, ADS'ing goes over the target it's supposed to aim at.
It's a shame, but they all have to go into the Optics category and can only choose between one or the other, can't have both irons and sights at the same time.

Yeah, some mods are just unstable and randomly crash or give you an infinite loading screens. Old mods sometimes just refuse to work and then launch with no problems. Also there could be a bugfix script conflict or an incorrect version of some required mod and it will also crash the game.
Try to activate a couple of mods at a time and check if your game is good. Yeah, it is time consuming, but it is still better than making 300+ modlist and then trying to find a culprit.

I know that my build won't ever be complete until I'm a much higher level, but I should really be getting a lot more XP by now, I think.
I already maxxed out Legendary INT. While in a casual team, I have around 26-ish INT. With Berry Mentats, I have 31. I've been trying to find a Leader bobblehead but haven't had much luck.
Dom Pedro has eaten up most of my bullion so I have to wait to get the Hellcat Internal Database for my power armor. I sold all my Unyielding stuff like a tard.
Really, the only reason I'm even bothering to care about XP is so I can grind the repeatables. I'm level 80 on the scoreboard now and it ends in 5 days. I know I'm NGMI.
I wanted that pipboy stand so bad. I bought the mannequin set with my atoms and I had to start getting rid of my mannequins to make way for the power armor frames because they share the same limit from some dogshit reason.
