>What the heck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as Age of Decadence, A Hat in

Time, Axiom Verge, Baba Is You, Battle Brothers, Battlerite, Card City Nights 2, Cave Story, CrossCode, Cultist Simulator, Darkwood, DashBored, Dead Cells, The Desolate Hope, Disco Elysium, Environmental Station Alpha, FTL, Guacamelee!, Hollow Knight, Knytt, LISA, Lobotomy Corp, Machinarium, Middens, Monolith, Monster Train, Noita, OFF, OneShot, Rimworld, Rain World, Slap City, Slay the Spire, Starsector, Subnautica, Sunless Skies, Tooth and Tail, Underrail, VA-11 HALL-A, Yume Nikki, etc., as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Pillars of Eternity, Rayman, and Valkyria Chronicles. /jrpg/ is welcome. Idle games are cool too.

Mobile or consoles, Flash or Unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads, however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

The Seatruck is one of the few things they did right in this game, even if its not as cool as the Seamoth and Cyclops.

I like how you can customize it and it works as a mobile base.

Ok... so the car is a remnant, and remnants latch onto a person and worm their way inside that person's mind. Then eventually the person goes crazy and wanders off into the zone in search of the we-have-a-wish-granter-at-home.
>Maybe its already happening... have you found yourself... thinking more about the car lately?
Yes, yes I have. The game is literally designed around it. Its hard not to by design. I get it, very cool mr developer guy. I also liked MGS2. Its not that complicated....

But...

Are Oppy, Tobias, and Francis even real? I mean, theyre just voices on the car's radio. Voices that want to help you escape by... having you drive deeper and deeper into the zone to find the well. I mean, the player is just along for the ride. In order to keep playing the game you have to keep pressing buttons, even if that means letting the car/narrator keep psyoping you. I mean, if the objective to progress is to find the well... the only way to not succumb to the remnant's control is to just stop playing the game. Yes, congrats on how much control you have over the player's experience in the game you made, mr. gamedev. Good job, point made. You're so powerful.
>>
>>567971316
So... the docking bay fills with water... then the cockpit attatches to the rest of the vessel?
>>
>>567971103
>>567971316
I'm actually pretty sure people really dislike the seatruck.
I'm kinda split on it. I'm with you that I love the modularity and how you can detach the front to get into tight spaces, but it's no cyclops.
>>567972669
To be fair the cockpit can detach while you're out in open water too and the back closes up I think
>>
>>567972161
I really couldn't care less about the story. The only good thing about it is that it's easy to ignore.
I like the remnant thing on a meta lever, as a justification why you, the player are so obsessed about modifying and upgrading the car in the car modification and upgrading game.
>Are Oppy, Tobias, and Francis even real?
Haven't finished the game yet and unsure if I ever will, but was wondering the exact same thing
>>
>>567972845
Ah, ok. So you take the helm, the vessel and cockpit seal, the chamber is flooded, now the cockpit can float over to the vessel and attach, and the conjoining ports open up once theyre joined.

The worst case of half assed optimization I've seen to date is the way Activision bundled the COD games on xbox, basically you have access to all campaign or something, but these jackasses didnt even compress shit so its like 350gb total, I recall how it pissed my cousin off because he basically had to wipe his xbox hardrive every time he wanted yo play cod, and transfer the gamefiles to a external drive whenever he wanted to play something else. Either that or take 2 whole days to download everything, every time he wanted to play cod or anything else.

Shit like this made me glad I abandoned console gayming decades ago.

Jesus. I would ask how that even happens, but then I remember that I work as a software dev and know enough people who just don't give a shit as long as they can shit out results in high volume. Or how every now and then you just grow jaded by middle management's "just get it done and fix it up later" attitude, when the aforementioned "later" never comes because there's always some new and shiny requirements to chase.
Reminds me of the worst absurd case of what I assume to be deep seated technical debt: In Crusader Kings II if you start a singleplayer game and return to main menu, you can't join a multiplayer lobby until you restart and vice versa. The button just becomes greyed out, I have absolutely no clue how that's possible. I think you don't even have to actually start a game, just clicking singleplayer and looking at the list of saves or clicking multiplayer and looking at the serverlist is enough.
>>
>>567973067
Just finished it, youre not missing out on much. You get to the well and its some portal to some weird space with a bunch of tvs and you walk through it while listening to the memories of the voices on the radio. Oppy and Francis reestablish radion conection and the ghost of tobias hops on the radio and its all sappy stuff. Then you find you car and a big downhill jam to escape before it blows up or something. Get back to the garage and Oppy decides to leave the zone while francis stays to continue researching it and driver is free from the remnant's control to do more post-game drives

Probably gonna drop it now, but it was a fun ride.

I assumed as much, I mostly played it for the scavenging and driving.

It's kind hard to describe, really. The money hoarding thing is only a tiny part of it.
It's a detective game where you play an eccentric drunkard trying to solve a murder case why also getting up to an absurd amount of shenanigans.
It's an RPG where you don't have really have combat, but some of the more important dialogues do feel like verbal battles.
It's one of those games where you want to unlearn a few of the habits you've accumulated over years of playing. Note very dialogue should be exhausted, not every failed check is a bad outcome etc etc
I was on the fence about it for years and then absolutely fell in love once I actually tried it.

I've said it before, but the ship combat in this is really damned good, I just hadn't realised how good.
In something like black flag the boat is one or two hurt boxes and the masts a few more or something like that, here the hurt boxes are precise and you can be real specific in your shots. For example if you aim specifically at the mast itself rather than just the sails and aim well then you've a high chance of snapping it off entirely with chain shot, but if you aim elsewhere on the sails then even a hundred shots will just rip the fabric and do nothing to the mast. There's a ton of specifics but that's an obvious one I've been noticing.

I mean, if we stick to the naval combat, Man O'War has some magic, but the best part is the hit detection. Nothing like firing grapeshot at the enemy bridge and see enemy crew drop.
But it certainly lacks Assassin's Creed's mortars or floating barrels: cannons and the occasional fireball are all you get.

I didn't think I'd ever see difficulty selection in a lego game.
'Limited lives' was a gameplay mode I wanted to see back when it was just Star Wars. 20 years later, I finally get it.

As the other anons said, get read for a few game overs. It took me way too long to realize, but Volition and Endurance also double as your physical and mental health.
But my first run also had 1 FYS and I did fine, you can just hoard healing items and the game lets you pop them as your health is dropping to 0, plus you get a way to increase the number of points you can pt into Endurance pretty early on.
Also some of the INT stats have some amazing dialogue behind them, so have fun with those

Encyclopedia has some pretty funny lines though. Also it and Wompty-Dompty Dom Centre are half the reason I'm basically drowning in skill points here. I haven't even started the Church or Cryptozoologist questlines yet.
It's also funny, when me and a friend watched a third friend play the game for the first time, the second friend was baffled how much of the worldbuilding he missed from his low int build, because the skill never told him any of that shit.
Also maybe I'm just a bit of an Encyclopedia guy irl, love me some trivia and random info about things that nobody else cares about

Tried Black Messa.
I'm a bit disappointed, it was hyped as "Half-Life: Definitive Edition", like the Source port but actually good, and, well.

It feels like Half-Life but in the Half-Life 2 engine, so not that interesting, sadly. Through I do appreciate a lot of the new features, I keep trying little things I was used to in Half Life and getting annoyed it doesn't work.

There's like.. a couple chapters early on in the anime / manga where he starts solo clearing shit, and then becomes a necromancer using his summons to clear shit. He occasionally fights with comrades, but he "levels" by himself. It's not a very good show, but I'm hoping the game will be entertaining.

Yeah it's a mix of the "sucked into a video game" and "getting isekaid" story. Basically it does play in the real world (if you believe Korea is real), but sometimes portals open with dungeons inside, and people with abilities called hunters enter these dungeons to kill the boss which makes them disappear. Hunters are ranked S to E, the protagonist is E level, and is known as "the weakest hunter" until one day he eats shit and dies in a dungeon, after which he gets ressurected but now he has a video game like "leveling" and daily quest system interface that only he can see, granting him the ability to farm exp and become more powerful than every S rank hunter combined.
The story is quite shit and mostly consists of enemies underestimating him, and him thanks to his solo leveling killing them without breaking a sweat. The kids call it "Aura farming" I call it boring slop with no tension.

>"they're waiting for you, Gordon"
>"in the test chambeeeeer"
Okay that pronunciation was weird.

>>568080952
Then yeah, it sounds like utter shit. There was a manga I was recommended that sounded fun, until I realized it was just the mangaka described his perfect MMO, but luckily, the devs (in-universe) started releasing AIs in the game, so that made the story interesting again, because the devs are actually experimenting with AI, it's not like /hack/ where it seems unclear what is going on.
Sadly still uses the same tired trope of "solo-levelling guy gets insanely strong but still get treated like shit", but not to the level I saw in Shield Hero or your thing.
Man I hated Shield Hero. Interesting premise, then it turns into a rape-and-revenge slop.

I didn't like the way Xen looked. Don't get me wrong it was beautiful, but that's precisely the problem.
In HL Xen looked like a desolate hellscape making you really feel like it's the end of the line.
In BM it's a lush jungle full of wonder and possibility.
I liked the overall layout, the signs of the researchers exploring, the puzzles, the industrial areas and the various other details, but they really messed up with the jungle look.

Female gatcha games ask about female periods because apparently the characters become more loving and caring when your on it or something and its easier to get women to spend money on the game because it plays with their emotions or something.

I dislike Black Messa because I feel it drags on (I have met and defeated in single combat around fifty headcrabs, but I feel like I only met 5 alien_slaves so far, and maybe 2 bullsquids), but this part was great: you put on a valve, and you turn the valve, and it locks your view on the thing you're currently turning, whereas in Half-Life, it was a bit of a mystery what it did.

A little something I like in Black Messa is that the houndeye show damage when you shoot them.
More games need to add that, I only remember Doom Eternal doing that. And maybe Serious Sam, but it was more of a flat texture being set to transparency 0 as you lower the monster's HP.

Playing the Prime Trilogy through the Dolphin emulator. Specifically Primehack, which is a fork of Dolphin built for this that makes it control very similarly to a modern m+kb FPS (ie fixing the reticle to the center of the screen) along with optimizations and fixing a few bugs within the game itself like the non-respawning Ice Shriekbats, somehow.

It's funny, I've always dismissed all the scav-posting (and that other game that isn't Scav but looks like it?) as weirdo furryshit, but after seeing the /egg/mans video on it I can definitely see the appeal.
Probably still not for me, I got enough sadness simulators already.
>>
>>568189723
>but after seeing the /egg/mans video on it I can definitely see the appeal.
I worry how much is my take on it and how much is me appropriating a youtuber's opinions as mine just because I think his other stuff is interesting sometimes
>>
>>568190045
I mean at the end of the day you're always gonna be influenced by other people's opinions either consciously or unconsciously.
I know what you mean though, when I was younger that was definitely a problem, where I would just parrot some online personality's take (and it being a good take didn't change that I was just parroting it, often without fully understanding what they meant or having experienced whatever lead them to that opinion) and that applied all the way from which video games are bad to my political opinions.
But it feels like that has just gotten better with age. I'm in my late 20s now and even though I'm obviously still influenced by the people I listen to, I feel more like my opinions are my own, or at least a mix and match. If I hear someone have a take I agree with, I can integrate it into what I already believe and discard the parts where I think they're wrong etc.
And sometimes, like in this case, all you can do is just be aware of it. All I knew about the game was based on a handful of screenshots I've seen and then someone who likes the game made a video explaining why it's actually good and showing a bunch of shit that appeals to me, so as long as I'm aware that it's a "second hand" opinion, I don't fuss about it.

Spoiler for the working class husband quest that you get around Day 2 and usually finish around Day 3 or 4, depending when you decide to explore where.
You find her dead husband who has been missing for a few days and have to tell her. It's absolutely gut wrenching. I've never failed this check, I can't imagine how bad it gets if you do

>>
>>568194493
I think the worst part is the "preamble" when you knock and come in and she's all nervous because obviously something is up for the police to show up at her place and even says stuff like oh, is my husband in trouble again? Do I need to pick him up from the station?
I'm genuinely fascinated how the game manages to pull of having shit like this in the same game as some of the goody insane shit. I think the fact that those two sides of the game can coexist amplifies the effectiveness of both. The serious parts wouldn't hit so hard without the goofy shit and the goody shit wouldn't be such a relief from the cruelty of the world, if that's all there was to it.

I'm getting very, very uneasy reminders of the very start of Twin Peaks. When Laura Palmer's parents find out she's not in her room, the mother worries, the father's like "oh she's probably at a friend's", and he spots the sheriff walking in, spotting him, and walking toward him, and...
Nothing is said. He just whispers "sherif", and drops his phone.

I have done basically nothing but play Lingo for the past three days.
My brain was tired two days ago. It is now drawn, dragged through the dictionary by a relentless search for dopamine.
I no longer try to find my way through corridors. I just walk. I know I won't know how to reach a place if I don't know the route by heart, so I just randomly walk through the whole place until I stumble upon it. This sometimes takes a long time, time in which I ponder what the fuck kind of answer was I supposed to give to that one cube or the other.
I will confess, looking for answers is not beyond me. I harbor no regrets in this regard, I'm at peace with the fact that I had no idea of what the hell "Betwixt" meant. Not that I didn't know the word "ere". These are not the problem, the problem are the ones I know I can know but I can't answer.
A panel with numbers sits before me, reading 906234. A blue box behind it, answer is two words, 6 and 4 letters each. Given context clues and that I know the colors by heart, it's trivial. Strand room is the answer.
That's one less. There are 800 of these. Then there's another level. I made the mistake of taking a look at the map, it's as big as this one. Then there's the library.

Then there's a whole second game.

Nevertheless they fall, one by one, this is no victory, this is masochism.
Two panels remain in the room. The ones with the simplest rules. Mocking me.

Seriously though I should get a badge for this

I loved DE and would still recommend Esoteric Ebb, but I can absolutely imagine how one would like the first and not the latter.
And I think it's kinda interesting how that probably has nothing to do with the gameplay itself, but rather the writing of the game, which definitely has a different tone.

I will say though, I think the writing does get pretty good at times. The (massive spoilers for backstory of the mc) bit about masculinity and self-sacrifice portrayed through the story of the mc looking back at how he saw his father die actually moved me. It doesn't get referenced again, and it doesn't have qualms about portraying the whole concept as a noble, positive thing. It doesn't shy away from the reality that for most of history, men doing stuff despite the circumstances was a necessary matter
I hope it's not tied to rolls or stats in any way because it's by far the best part of the game for me. In the case it is, I'm glad I was lucky to get it at the time.

What I'm saying is that there are times in this life in which you can't tinker and try stuff out because shit has consequences, attempting to extract data from an .iso with 7zip is not one of those things, and an habit of finding out how stuff works will be way better for you on the long term.

Took down a satanic cult the drug faction started then unlocked selling meth. Been whittling away at the excons faction by collect protection payments and hiring child whores to go hang out with them. Next step in their storyline is to create a rival meth business because the drug den faction's leader was the excon leader's celly and ratted him out to get out of prison while the rest of the excons had to wait o the collapse of the Soviet Union to get amnesty pardon. >Retrying Enshrouded.
Man I really want to like that game but something about it just doesn't click.
I like how the map is handcrafted and that all structures are built on the same grid, so you can just take over an enemy fort and rebuild it. Also the fact that the world "resets" outside your base every few in-game days kind of makes it harder to trick my brain into believing the world is real, if that makes sense. Makes it feel like an MMO if all changes you make in the world, like chopping down trees, digging up resources or clearing out enemies are so incredibly temporary.
Also last time I tried the game looked way too bad for how poorly it ran.

The problem with it is that you don't want to move forward because there's just too much stuff to pick up. You're basically told you're scavenging and scrounging for ressources, but truth is that you end up having a lot of very basic stuff.
And yeah, I get what you mean, Enshrouded is odd. I still struggle at time with the building/crafting system, because even with snapping turned on, it's so very easy to have gaps between the walls and the roof. But I do appreciate the variety of build and weapons, and I kinda like the food system. It's not Valheim or Vintage Story, but still fun.

Yeah, I think in VS it's not as bad as in some other games, since the open world being empty is part of the point of an early human civilization simulator and also the world in a sense is just a canvas for you to build in. So I don't mind as much, even if one with hand-placed ruins and some handcrafted caves and terrain features would be really cool.
Then again I was lucky to have my base across the bay from this stunning natural arch.

You can't buy this shit anywhere and you need it in the hundreds to get important ship upgrades. Normal fights drop artifacts instead of cards, so your deck is pretty slim by default and you can get Voltaic (picrel) and Echo Form (the first card you play, is played twice) pretty early on and just steamroll everything. Secured the votes of the disparaged, excons, and drug den today. Started working on the guzzlers, church and Crazy's votes. Kinda in a pickle with the church since I have to recover some stolen stuff for them, and the leader of the satanists have the gold cross. He won't talk to me anymore, though, on account of bashing his face in with a fire extinguisher. So, I need to max out stealing which is a bit of a grind even though Im already at level 9/10.

Crazy and the Guzzlers are at odds with eachother, since they both share the same territory at the train station. Crazy collects from all the bum pan handling around the train station, and the Guzzlers get violently drunk around the train station which makes the cops and people not like the hobos. Crazy already got mad at me for helping the Guzzlers work out a truce with the junkies, but we're cool now beecause I poisoned 3 of the Guzzlers.

Guzzler questline is the whole fucking thing involving uncovering a conspiracy to kill the homeless in the city. Working with a reporter to track down leads and see whats what. Apparently at a rager they threw one night someone poisoned the grog and 15 people got seriously ill or worse. During the disparaged questline, there was a couple of murders commited by a fake hobo, and that ended with paying a dirty cop to look into it at the police station after giving them the murder weapon. Apparently the captain of the force is just telling the papers that theyre investigating it, but actually not. The dirty cop told me to stay safe and gave me a machete.

Nha I believe they're going to add it back, you can tell certain areas are being designed with it in mind ie the brine pit north of the start spawn has these growing structure placed in a way to make climbing back up possible, which wouldnt make sense to bother with if they didnt have the intent to add it back. And I mean its obvious in a way that it isnt just decorations, like metal scrap added to thin roots that are coincidentally aligned in a way as to form a ramp kind of way.

I'm replaying mario galaxy right now. When you finish the game with all 120 stars, you unlock Luigi mode. To get the true ending you have to finish the game 100% with Luigi too. When I was a kid I was "Holy shit you get to play as Luigi!! That's awesome!" but now as an adult, I realize lou-gee mode is just padding and filler crap with barely any changes. Also you have to do the last world twice with each character, once at 60 stars to unlock the post-game purple coin stars and once again at 120 stars to properly finish the game. You can't skip the credits or cutscenes.
But I guess not every game needs a proper "Richter mode" equivalent and you're likely not supposed to finish the game twice in a row like I plan to do.

I always see people hype DE as a trascendental experience
it was a good game
it was well written
it was fairly fun
it was a labor of love
I didn't bother replaying it and 100%ing it

It wasn't anything I'd go back to and say "wow my life sure was different after I played disco elysium"
no it was "oh hey, that was actually a pretty good game"
>>
the first few hours of DE are the best when youre soaking in the atmosphere and before you find out there is no mystery and you're just being railroaded down some meaningless series of fetchquests

>I always see people hype DE as a trascendental experience
well it certainly was for me, but that's highly subjective and has more to do where I was at when I played it than with the game itself it was just at the right place at the right time
But it doesn't have to be a life changing experience to be something you wish you could experience for the first time again. I could name plenty of media that applies to.
>I didn't bother replaying it and 100%ing it
I didn't think I would either, but replaying it after a few years is actually a really good time, there's lots of interesting stuff hidden behind skills and options I didn't pick the first time around.
>>568426915
I can definitely agree on the last part. The fetchquesty design is fine on the first few days while you have plenty of stuff to do and run around all over the place anyways, but I think the game is at it's weakest just before the tribunal (coincidentally where I am in my replay right now) when you're just running back and forth for a single quest.
>>
>>568425887
I personally stopped recommending games to my friends because they go out of their way to play them in the worst way possible and say the game is bad. I don't mean this in a "YOU PLAY THE GAME WRONG" kind of way. I mean, I mean that when I recommended pokemon heartgold and soulsilver to a friend, he quite literally grinded to level 100 before meeting mr pokemon and oak. It took him over a year.
>>
>>568427472
What helped me with this is being a bit more selective with what I recommend to whom. One of my friend has very similar taste and media literacy to me, so he naturally gets most recommendations, because I know if I enjoy something, chances are he will too.
And the second thing was to accept that everyone will have their unique experience with a piece of media. I remember when I was younger I subconsciously wanted for everyone's experience to be a carbon copy of mine, but that's not something you can force. And as frustrating as it might be to watch someone skip/miss your favorite part or play the game in a totally different way, I've just somehow come to terms with it.

>decide to check out the ship because the game keeps acting like I'm on a time limit to get there and do something
>find capsules along the way, get some cool stuff like reactor rods
>see a bigass eel thing in the distance that won't shut up
>scout ship, can only reach one area, assume I need to make the tool I found the schematics for on the ship to get into the cargo hold
>leave
>head back to lifepod by going around the ship to scout its far side
>giant eel fucker ambushes me at the rear of the ship
>all my cool new stuff is gone
>read online it gets dropped and you can go back for it
>eel fucker is camping the back of the ship so I can't look for my stuff, manage to scan it, "avoid at all costs"
So far, I'm not seeing why everyone ranks this game so highly. You have to run from everything, and the gameplay loop seems to be doing easter egg hunts for the components you need to craft equipment to do more easter egg hunts, and each hunt has a time limit based on your O2.
Do things pick up once you get a vehicle or build a base?
>>
>>568441553
All vehicles give you oxygen when powered so you can use them as a mobile outpost during exploration.
Bases can be built anywhere and used to recharge vehicles or vehicle power cells.
Exploration is the focus of the game.

I remember having a very funny moment with that one, because I only saw its silhouette in the distance, with nothing to anchor the scale to. And until that fucker jumped me out of nowhere, I just assumed he was much closer when I saw him and about he size of the stalkers that chill in the kelp biomes.
Anyways as the other anon said, the game is about exploration and it's praised so highly because of how hands off it is. The game nudges you towards certain objectives every now and then but it's always up to you to explore at your own pace and driven mostly by your own curiosity. It's funny that I played Outer Wilds right after it, because in this way they are surprisingly similar.
Have you repaired the radio in the life pod? I can't remember if you need to do that separately or it happens when you repair the pod outright.
>Do things pick up once you get a vehicle or build a base?
getting a vehicle (and base) is where I would say the midgame starts. It lets you explore much deeper and further.
>>568442640
Making your own mental map is part of the fun in my opinion, though I do wish you could get one as a lategame upgrade or something.
>>
>>568442640
You memorize where things are or use beacons to mark biomes and points of interest.
>>
>>568443298
Nta you're replying to, but you need to find the repair tool parts, which I believe is one of the first few items you get from wreck and opened boxes laying about.

>>568442640
You wont need a map after a bit, id say its better this way because you actually learn to recognize the biomes and the ressources in them which makes for a more immersive experience, beside there are beacons you can build that are dirt cheap to mark specific places like specific caverns. Also help build your confidence, at first you hide at every big sound and see everything as a potential threat, then you get bolder, then you become the threat and leviathans become little more than big fishes.

Honestly the best tip id give to a new player is dont underestimate the usefulness of beacons, as the most annoying part is trying to find again something you saw during wanton exploration but cant pinpoint the location of later when you're equipped to handle the specific biome. Especially once you reach the twilight zone and can only see as far as your spotlights allow. And one qol tip for base building; I heavily recommend you make a room somewhere that you just use to add reinforcements to, as its less of an eyesore when building it and you'll feel less restricted as to how you want to build or expand. Ie making a room with nothing but reinforcements so you can make another big room with nothing but windows so you get an amazing vista in a more convenient spot.

I tend to have that issue with the little guys. I assume they're 20 meters away because of how small they look and accidentally swim right past them.

>It's funny that I played Outer Wilds right after it, because in this way they are surprisingly similar.
That's what's getting me right now. I loved Outer Wilds and people always list the two games together, but I'm not feeling the same magic quite yet. I'll keep at it a while longer.

To be fair I wouldn't dare overtly comparing the two and I'm happy I played Subnautica first and not the other way around.
Because the magic is MUCH strong in OW. But, still Subnautica has some of the same essence, of the main driver for exploration being your own curiosity where it rarely shoves a quest marker in your face and tells you where to go.
It felt amazing when I found out that there was a whole new biome I've never seen after 10s of hours of gameplay, right next to my base, just because somehow I've always avoided checking behind that one cliff.

That's the exciting part to me. I 100%'d Outer Wilds in 25 hours, according to Steam. I was hoping that Subnautica would be "Outer Wilds with less aliens and bigger environments to explore," and it's slowly starting to look like that. At least from the one square kilometer area that's about 100m deep that I can explore so far.

>The inventory management aspect is definitely shit. That's why you want to build a base asap, even if it's just a tiny one made out of a handful of compartments.
Do you have to find the multipurpose room plans to do that? Because I built a foundation and was disappointed to find that all I can build on it are tubes that look too small to put anything inside.

It makes no sense to have to start from such low stats, as if you're waking up from a 20 year coma and learning to walk again.
The game would be great if you didn't have to spend the first several hours running around with rocks to train strength and shit.

>I was hoping that Subnautica would be "Outer Wilds with less aliens and bigger environments to explore,"
Depends on what you want tog et out of it to be honest. Subnautica's story is pretty shit in my opinion and mostly serves as a means to an end, so you don't have any grand revelations like in Outer Wilds, but the exploration still does feel really cool. And setting was immersive (haha) enough to make me genuinely too scared to explore a certain area for quite a while. It was close to my base, but between the darkness and spooky music I noped out of there and didn't return until way later to find out it led to some pretty col stuff.
>Do you have to find the multipurpose room plans to do that?

Damn, I found some base blueprints a ways south of the first lifepod and was struggling to figure out how to build it with the roof out of water for solar panel access, but you're telling me the panels work under water, too?
I usually hate to look up how to do things in games like this but I might need to find a construction guide because so far the base building seems super janky to me. Every time I try to do something that seems intuitive, something is fucky, like not needing foundations to build, and things snapping off-center.
