One thing that is actually good about this change, you should be able to use a cheap essence when fishing the ideal removed/kept mods, then use the expensive remove/add craft because it should guarantee remove the crafted mod.

In this current version of the game it is an absolutely massive nerf to early/mid crafting. An easy example to give is when you made a weapon you would often have a magic base with %inc phys dam. Then you would use greater essence into flat phys dam. And when the item is full you would use perfect essence of battle to get gem levels.Greater and perfect essence now can not both be on the same item.What are they trying to avoid? Either some interaction with the new crafting stuff or they simply realized it would limit their design space in the long run and they just ripped the bandaid off now.

No mana flare, no MoM, no archmage, you can still use blood magic but blood magic goes over the notable I think since it effectively reserves your resource orb
