I always kill Yrilet and Jae now. I used to be the kind of person to go out of my way to recruit every companion I could. But lately I realized that I was just metagaming instead of roleplaying. Killing Zevran, kicking out Sera, etc are all thing that my characters should do.

The investigating aspect in DH is actually pretty cool.

The companion spread in Dark Heresy is dogshit imo.You start with 2 ranged soldiers and a psyker. In Lucid palace you get 2 officers and a warrior tech priest that doesn't really tank well. In Marisportum you get a warrior tank mobile melee dps (kind of warrior psyker) and a sniper operative. If you go lucid first you have no proper frontliners.

Also companion balance is bad Haymar is a one trick pony that pretty much does one thing and not well, compare him to Epi who can do what he does but with added support buffs for rest of teams and contributes to skill checks. Tanks get melted cause of lasguns being widespread cog is inferior to def stacking due to heavy armor def cap. Lasguns also aren't aror piercing weapons in 40K. They shouldn't have that as their niche. They should have low armor damage and have plasma or melta guys among enemy team shred armor.If you don't wanna give those guns too early just have them be unstable and explode in the hands of early foes.

After doing this fight a few times, it's really made me hate how they changed the cover system, the lack of full cover and everything being destructible (and low HP) just means everyone ends up having zero cover (minus Cogg), so you just have to pray you get a lot of defense procs. So in drawn out fight like this with tons of long-ranged enemies, it's just absolutely awful unless you've stacked your own long-ranged shooters. And you end up with weird shit where an enemy can't shoot at somebody at all despite appearing to be in LoS, and then if they take a few steps forward suddenly they have an open shot even if the terrain is still visually between them. At this point it may as well not have a cover system at all when it just boils down to LoS blocking and stat-boosting. The fights in Marisportum aren't as bad since they have a lot of cover and small LoS blocks, but even there it's occasionally annoying, but these fights have sucked, and I'm not looking forward to if all indoor fights will be like this.

I've been thinking about it a bit and I think once the game is fully out this will be one of the hooks for Expansion story like Void Shadows where maybe in Marisportum we will be able to meet Kin who will look for an Ironkin and they will be our companion (I also noticed that after Spires you still have an option to enter Governor chambers albeit it's closed now) and that may lead us to a story that possibly involves Amaranthine Syndicate who probably gave this head to Mechanicus, Leagues of Votann (possibly Trans Hyperian Alliance, although I'd LOVE Ymir as well) and Slaugth.
