But Cream has always been an agentic character who helps others by choice, not one who has any covenent to specific people like Tails does to Sonic. When Cream was introduced in Sonic Advanced 2, she was depicted as very free spirited, adventurous, and practiced radical vulnerability. But, she's also very polite and caring in a way that charmed Sonic. Her role in Sonic Rush is perfectly consistent with her character.As for Cream being Amy's sidekick, of course that wasn't wrong. And I also agree that association should happen more. But if you go back and look closely at their partnerships before, it needs to have Amy willing to boss her around a little to keep her by her side. But Amy has lost that part of herself.
