In case this might be useful to somebody, here is a userscipt (used with violentmonkey or whatever) to export your game list from backloggd.com: https://files.catbox.moe/4di0xp.js
You just need to go to your user page (or anybody's user page) and you will get the export button on the top right. If it is the first time opening a user page, you might need to refresh for it to properly pop up.
It shits out a csv, json files and a nice looking and functional html file.

The most important part is that PGS was built with shaders in mind and retroarch provides that in spades. It's more important that hooking a fucking guitar hero controller, because it affects every game.

Using 16:9 patches in the first place means you're stretching UI, acquire some taste and play in 4:3 like it was intended.

The problem with that situation is that most people are not aware that there were different motion blur techniques and implementations in the past. Per-Object Motion Blur is cool (Crysis, some PS3 exclusives etc.) because it only applies motion blur to geometry that is actually moving in the 3D space of the world, rather than applying a general motion blur filter.

mednafen or beetle saturn for RA.
YabaSanshiro if you need upscaling but I never liked this emu and the last time I've tried it, the UI was completely borked. Maybe it's good now idk.
Ymir isn't there yet but it's a promising one.
>>
It's worth noting that SSF is actually not too bad and works on really low specs. You're better off w/ Meds/Beetle though. My first instinct is to recommend in Ymir if you're the kind of newb to ask questions, as it works with most games and the UX won't make you want to McNutt.
>>
Never mind ciggy pointing out audio cutoffs and literal 1-frame glitches (the one in that Samurai 2D platformer was literally a fucking frame in the char select screen) in obscure titles. It will probably work for you.

>>568701457
The problem with Ymir for beginner is the complete lack of shaders. even Mednafer has decent options.

I think healthy emu development demands ADHD and the ability to jump between a million titles. That he's so addicted to Blizzard-slop isn't good. I can barely stand to play a single game for a week, let alone one for 'seasons'. Byuu said he had ADHD to Null before he 41'd.

can somebody explain to me the constant whining about PCSX2 and the obsession with the PGS fork? I unironically cannot understand what's the difference between them two, the nightly build of PCSX2 is working flawlessly and has been for years
>>
>>568707308
No explanation I give you is likely enough because you sound like a pleb and since it's 4chan any reason I give will just be downplayed by you but here goes:
It's basically software level accuracy/stability with all the effects intact, with the ability to raise the resolution, and it's a hell of a lot faster than software mode. Hardware GSdx has come a remarkably long way, but some games still hate it, and it's still reliant on a ponderous amount of hacks. It's hardly agnostic.
>>
>>568707239
90% of indie games is just coping better games that came before, be it the games the dev played when they were child or previously succesfull indie games (or even AAA games but without the budget). Here, an opinion, can use it if you want, it's free.
>>
and as I've explained a million times, to get it:
>you can use Retroarch which is missing all the special controllers the standalone has, and a few other features
>In Windows, you can go through the humiliation ritual of grabbing MSVC and building it, which requires time and effort that the developer could just cut out for you, but won't
>You could get it fairly easily in Arch Linux, but are you enough for a sperg for that?
>or you can rely on ciggy not to poz and spy on you with his build
These are problems that could be solved if TheMaister and Refraction n staff would just work together for the user's sake, but emu devs hate users. The group us all in with brownoids who ask them stupid questions.
>>
>>568707509
>some games still hate it
which games? I'm trying to determine if I need it or not, I'm on arch already, no retroarch
>>
>>568708547
For one, just about any game with bloom will have the bloom offset or magnified wrong when you raise the resolution. Pick any game, what I said likely applies. Generally the promise of downsampling or raising resolution without breaking the post-processing is enough of a selling point. As for what games are outright broken regardless of resolution, I'm sure that number is low anymore, but they're still out there.
>>
>>568708547
https://wiki.pcsx2.net/Category:Software_rendering_only_games
These, as far as ones they know about.
>>
Lots of games also have shitty off-by-one seams when you raise the resolution too, which typically isn't a problem with PGS.
>>
>>568708861

how is Mercenaries 2 in any way broken?
it could be that I haven't played on original ps2 hardware for over a decade who knows
>>
>>568710830
Like I said I do have to think about what truly *requires* SW or PGS now, but for me the selling point is glitchless downsampling/upresing and avoiding those times you have to apply hacks/workarounds to GSdx. I'm sure over the years you've had those moments where you just have to fall back to software or 1x hardware. I know I have.
>>
>>568711035
I had shitty hardware up until 2020, so I wasn't into PS2 emulation until that point
nightly build comes with a fuckton of patches and hacks, and all the essentials are enabled by default, I genuinely don't have to do anything
>you just have to fall back to software or 1x hardware
I never had to revert to software, ever
>>
>>568712103
Most of the upscalings bugs are small things, some misaligned effect, some weird lines in some text, that kind of things. It's not "Half the graphics doesn't renders" shit and you can technically finish the game without issue. Also, you could also check the issue list on the github to have an idea of kind of problems could exist.
>>
>>568707239
It's autistic obsession by "perfectionists" whom spend 10 hours configuring and setting up the emulator, and 10 minutes playing the games.

But it's still stuttering a bit, and RTSS's solution doesn't, there's no problems with it, only it's harder to get tear line into a decent place. And yea that's the thing they need to improve somehow so it automatically places it on top or bottom of the screen.

I'm fine now. It took a lot of effort and dancing around bugs, but I got everything dialed perfectly again. I just think it shouldn't take that much effort and testing. It's no wonder people think RA is laggy and shit when any random update can trigger different behaviors for critical stuff.

>hardware flip issue
With PresentMon, you can check the way Windows delivers frames to you with the least possible latency. You want the "hardware" flips, any of them are fine, but the higher level the better. Controlling this shit is pretty hard, as any random thing can trigger Winblows to use the lower levels. For me, RA on my monitor is just stuck on the lower one, but on my TV it's on Hardware Independent Flip, which is good because that's where I actually game. It's a complete mystery why RA doesn't like my monitor.

>frame pacing on RA
Depending on the settings, the video just doesn't look smooth, that's bad frame pacing. I use RTSS to check the graph, but it is misleading sometimes due to the way RA works, so I trust my eyes more. I can tell when shit doesn't look smooth, and there's nothing worse than stutters. With default settings, RA is great at this, but when you use latency reduction tricks like runahead, scanline sync, or automatic frame delay, and reduce the prerendered frames as low as possible, that's when RA can shit the bed a bit. Framedrops or stutter will happens when you stack every latency features and complex shader on top so you have to go in and find a good balance. It's not a hardware issue (the 7800X3D does nothing), I assume there can be too much for RA to handle everything at 120FPS (shader sub-frames for 60fps content effectively run the UI at 120fps). I'm testing Cave 1000 games on FBNeo (having a lot of fun with DDPDFK); these run on SH3 CPUs, so it's a bit demanding. But I managed to get something great (much better and less laggy than the PC ports).
>>
why is it so hard to find nintendo ds roms on internet archive?
do they always get taken down?
>>
>>568795543
First of all, all CV1000 games have 2 frames of lag which is pretty easily run aheadable with fbn
Secondly, you are correct in saying that flat graph on RTSS doesn't necessarily mean good frame pacing, you can check ra's inbuilt statistic overlay to check frame present deviation, it's a good metric for 60 fps games (not so much for 30 fps because some cores present duplicate frames unevenly)

instead of fiddling with frame present, your cpu time is MUCH better spent running run ahead, which is 16.7ms per frame. RS has 3 frames of lag. your 7800X3D will probably cap out at 2 if you're lucky

>>568829058
you can't run 2 frames because you have bunch of useless shit like shader subframes or automatic frame delay eating up CPU cycles
All compute must go towards run ahead, because it's the most efficient way to reduce lag from computational standpoint

>shaders adding latency
Absolutely wrong. If anything it's some nano-second processing cost that no human would ever perceive. This has been proven. The only time it would add latency is if your card was so shit that it dropped frames from it.
>shaders having significant CPU cost
They don't. GPU if anything, and only when you dig into Royale and such, geom-deluxe (picrel) is lightish

Anyway, Claude pretty BASED because vibe-Beetle is giving me 3 frames at 60fps now, thanks for reminding me about RS's built in lag.

>>568829462
Thank you looking forward to seeing how Beetle's is lacking as I'm sure you'll prove. I wasn't being rhetorical and I am curious.
>>
>>568829662
I see what you mean, it's like it's more opaque than transparent and not letting the background bleed through enough, if at all in this instance. Thank you for your example.
>>
>>568830031
I advice against EVER EVER using preemptive frames. They mask the fact that your CPU is too slow for 3 frames and the game will stutter every time you press inputs. If you can't run single instance 3 frames properly, then just get down to two. You can see that your 7800x3d is too slow for 3 frames because frame deviation is above 3%
>Absolutely wrong. If anything it's some nano-second processing cost that no human would ever perceive
I never mentioned shaders adding latency. It's the opposite, activating shader subframes reduce latency, but that cost is never worth it
>>
>>568830294
Maybe? In my experience they've acted as more performant run-ahead frames with no drawbacks in my real world use. Run-ahead will stutter back when you're using too much of it regardless of CPU load, and my CPU is not stressed in this particular instance. Only 71% even with an insane run ahead in a slow core.
>>
>>568830187
And its worst in motion, for that thing is rotating.
>>
>>568830525
Oh, and not using sub-frames in my setup either.
>>
>>568830525
Preeptime frames are not easier to run than single instance, think of single instance as preemptive frames that are registering input all the time
TLDR never use preemptive frames, they're useless and will make your game stutter if single instance for the same amount of frames was not running full speed for you
I don't think any CPU in the world can run RS w/ 3 frames rn
>>
File: 8.jpg (1.27 MB, 2560x1440)
1.27 MB JPG
My CPU is much slower than 7800X3D and it can only do 1 frame. But it doesn't degrade performance, notice that despite core time being dangerously close to 16.7ms, frame deviation is kept low. If your deviation is above 3% in a 60 fps game, you're doing it wrong

Grandia is a mess of a game (visually), the more blur you can ad with shaders, the better.
I play it on a CRT + i use the GTU50 shader which allows me to crank up the blur on both the X and the Y axis'. + i combine it with NTSC Adaptiove Composite shading to create a super monster shader.
It ends up looking like it would have looked on hardware, on a 90s crt, which were much blurrier than the razor sharp 2000s era Sony Trinitron with component inputs that i'm using.
>>
>>568834071
RSG looks (and sounds) absolutely outstanding, even today.
>>
>>568833656
I love the way saturn (and ps1) games look, in their native resolution, with all their wobbly weird shit going on.
Ditto N64 with its weird dithering and 17 different blur filters it applied to its image.
It's what gives each of those consoles their distinct look and i wouldn't have it any other way.

Warts and all or not at all!

The waterfalls in Panzer Dragoon Saga are another good place to test transparencies.
There's a part early one where a waterfall is blocking the entrance to a cave, you can park your dragon right out the front and just sit there and grab some footage.
>>
>>568853697
*early on
>>
>>568841292
It looks like 1:1 PAR. (which is wrong).

Saturn games had a fairly wide horizontal resolution, 352 usually.
Compared to 256, or 320 in most other consoles.

So a 1:1 Pixel aspect ratio would appear wider than it's meant to be.
>>
>>568842032
>5 frames of lag on Hyper Duel, knock yourself out
The game was balanced around that.
That's perfectly fine.
I 1cc'd Strikers on the Saturn on the hardest difficulty. Even With all that input lag.
>>
>>568854183
>The game was balanced around that.
the same arcade game has 1 frame of lag, retardo
>>
>>568845362
It's bonkers what people will do to avoid seeing dithering in 30 year old computer games.
They'll destroy the image in an entire game, make text unreadable, completely fuck up colour and contrast etc..... all so a waterfall in sonic the hedgehog, which is only on screen for 3/4 of a single second during normal gameplay, appears to be """transparent""" if they pause the game at the exact right frame and stare at it.
>>
>>568854012
First of all, 320x224 is the most popular Saturn resolution
Secondly, Grandia runs at 320 width on the saturn
Thirdly, majority of 352 wide titles on the sat save from cps2 ports did not account for non square pixels

basically you're retarded
>>
>>568849568
It's the home version of the STV Titan that ran on CD's instead of Carts.
>>
>>568854457
The thing is that even on a crt you still saw the dithering. It was blended and did its job but it wasn't perfect. Which to me is part of its charm. You just didn't see it as starkly as you would on an lcd.
Except for the model 1 genesis which really did blend and blur the fuck out of everything.
>>
Assuming that the way games were presented on original hardware is definitive or """intended""" way to play is midwit-core.

>Based on "official" production figures (totaling exactly 160,636,885 units produced between January 2000 and March 2013), the PS2's sales record stands as a significant statistical anomaly. This is particularly evident when compared to popular modern hardware like the Nintendo Switch, which has yet to surpass the PS2's total despite operating in an era with a global population nearly 25% larger and a vastly expanded "gamer" demographic. By capturing such an immense share of a smaller global market, the PS2 achieved a level of market penetration that remains unmatched in the industry, solidifying its position as the highest-selling console of all time and the definitive hardware of the Y2K era.

Is there a known fix / workaround for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 getting stuck in loading screens on Ryubing? The game works fine 99% of the time, but every time I hit a loading screen there's like a 20% chance of it softlocking. It's driving me nuts.

Ymir already has this, and you're sperging out. Some games look better in 3:2/PAR. 90s developers were extremely sloppy regarding these things. Some considered it, some didn't. Some games have a mix of assets that clearly look better in 4:3 (which makes sense in that Lupin screenshot) and others have a bunch of circles that look like vertically squished ovals.

The Switch Xenoblade Blade games have a shit ton of problems and no Switch emulator or fork is going to fix it unless someone steps up fully continue development and not make endless useless forks. All the Switch emulators and forks have the same problem basically. You can still try to levitate some of the problems though. 2 isn't TOO bad and I might as well tell you some issues and fixes because all the compatibility sites are gone because retards thought using github issues as a compatibility list was a good idea and achieve.org can't trace inside each topic.

>Xenoblade 2
-Crashing: Set your GPU speed to extreme or the highest setting it can go for whatever Switch emulator you're using, doesn't matter which, they're all the same. That should stop majority of crashing and freezing. Can still happen but super rare so save often before you warp to places. This also fixes/levitate random freezing when you open up the main menu. There may be some other setting you can try but I forgot and can't remember the site I got the compatibility information from but I think the GPU setting was the main issue.

And just for measures before you check out Xenoblade 3
>Xenoblade 3
Runs fine but has some serious graphic breaking issue when it comes to this one map/continent because of a certain effect Valkan can't handle or some shit. Only solution I found was to switch to OpenGL and even then, I still had graphics breaking but restarting the emulator fixes that. I ended up just playing the whole game in OpenGL because you're constantly going back and forward to this one map/continent. Just sucks that the game looks and runs like ass with OpenGL. Seriously after fooling around with this game I honestly I stop listening to anyone who recommends using a certain Switch emulator/fork to fix an issue because none of the shit works. I'm saving you the time and effort.

can you play gameboy/gameboy color multiplayer games from a gba flash cart?

*i know the gba link cable doesnt allow multiplayer gaming to old gameboy games but there is a trick to it needing two cables. i just didnt want to draw that entire thing lel
>>
>>568992115
No, you need a GB/C flash cart, not GBA because those emulate the legacy hardware and not good enough for link cable. You also need a GB/C link cable.
>>
You should honestly just use two GBC emulators connected via LAN. What a monstrosity. It also isn't emulation at the end of the day.
>>
If screen-looking isn't an issue, RA's Sameboy core supports 2-player via splitscreen pretty effortlessly. Frustratingly, none of GBA cores have this functionality. The MiSTer core has this built in, even. Claude, you know what to do.

I used it on a shitty HTPC to play P4AU before it was rereleased on modern platforms and it worked fine despite my hw being shit, which wouldn't have it possible if it infected the PC with malware that hogged the resources and fucked up System32 or w/e, so I'm inclined to bellieve a jealous fag started the rumor and gullible retards believed it.

I wonder if there is Homebrew that can force 240p on PS3 since 480i is only on analog mode.
I mean Sharpscale shows that it is possible to at least have a better scaler for PS1 games on PS Vita, I hope someone ports it to PS3 (and also forces the non-BCs PS3 PS2 Emulators to have a 1080p option) because I want to play PS1 and PS2 games with integer scaling (The PS3 has that as an option for DVD playback, so it is there).

You forgot:
See dlc file being shared without rap files, making them useless.
Redump has a lot of dlc without license rap.

And once you get everything, the emulator is pure shit. 7th gen + emulation is just not worth the hassle minus ds/wii stuff.

Also, you can download iso and keys from minerva so you don't have to decrypt anything.

Casper, King's Field 2 and 3, puchi carat, Expert, on PS1. Virtua Cop and House of the Dead on Saturn but I prefer the arcade versions. Blazing Dragons as well.

Kyuutenkai on Saturn and PS1. Stuart Little on PS1 and the PS2 sequel. Muppet's Monster Adventure on PS1. Ku-on on PS2.

Video compression RUINS shaders. so dont use shaders, because they will look like dogshot after youtube is done compressing them, even at 4k quality.
Not only that, but unless you fullscreen the video and the resolution is identical to the viewers screen resolution, the scaling of the video will ruin it even more.
Also, video essays are to put on in the background, not look at the screen.

Is there a way to have both working dpad and analog working at the same time with Saturn emulation through mednafen+mednaffe? I tried using the 3Dpad option over in the Input devices settings but it doesn't really work right, it just disables the other or doesn't work at all. Right, so you're playing a game.
A circle appears on screen.
You pause the game and grab your ruler and measure it to see if it's perfectly round.
It's off by a millimeter so you tear your hair out and start fiddling with the settings.

Since we're talking about aspect ratios, I always thought that, if I wanted to replicate a CRT's, all I needed to do was set it to 4:3 and done. However, some people say it's incorrect and there's some extra math involved. Like, for instance, the correct AR for the Super Nintendo would be 64:49 (!!!). Halfway through a Playthrough of Toy Story 2 on my PS3, trying to do the RetroAchievements despite not having an account.
I came up with some achievement ideas for a hypothetical bonus set, I tried to make them interesting and use some of the game's mechanics without having to make them hyper specific and they should work for all non-GBC versions of the game, if you have any ideas let me know

TS2 Bonus RetroAchievements set
[Level] all at once!
Obtain all batteries, 1-up coins, Mr. Potato Head piece and tokens in your first visit to [Level]

Not a flying toy
Obtain the Office Token in Al's Toy Barn without using the disc launcher

Out of order
Get the Duck and Boss Tokens first in your fist visit to Alleys and Gullies

You uncultured swine!
Obtain all 50 tokens while only getting the Grappling hook and the Disc Launcher.

Moving day
Obtain the Attic token in Andy's house without moving the boxes

We'll be back in no time
Obtain all 50 tokens and finish Prospector Showdown in less than 1 hour and 32 minutes

Can!
Obtain a Pizza Planet Token while exiting a level.

Hold on, Slinky
Get Slinky's Alleys and Gullies Token while also getting the area's duck and the extra life while the challenge runs

Rocky, the ramp!
Get the token on the broken airplane in Airport Infiltration while doing Rocky's challenge and then complete it.

Overcharged! Bombs away
Get all batteries in the Bombs Away! arena and defeat the boss without taking any damage

Overcharged! Toy Barn encounter
Get all batteries in the Toy Barn Encounter arena and defeat the boss without taking any damage

1/2
>>
>>569123289

This is falling with style!
Obtain the light puzzle token in Tarmac Trouble without doing the puzzle

Not a swimming toy
Obtain Jesse's Rabbit in Al's bathroom without toggling the water switches

I know where you are
Obtain a Pizza Planet token from a boss while the spawning cutscene plays

Be careful with that, it's extremely dangerous!
Complete the game from a new save while only using the laser during the Slime Time boss fight (Disk Launcher allowed)

And if anyone attacks us we can blink them to death
Complete the game from a new save while only using the laser during the Slime Time boss fight (Disk Launcher not allowed).

Missing Luggage
Get the little passenger at the starting area without using the bouncing blue Luggage.

Use your head
Get to the air ventilation tube and find the chick without passing through the basketball section

One lap ahead of you
Beat RC in Andy's Neighborhood while giving him a one lap headstart

Instant win
Beat Slinky's challenge in Tarmac Trouble with 70 seconds or more

That would be PAR, pixel aspect ratio, but don't let yourself get confused by modern tech purists, up to 5th gen almost every single CRT produced until that point was 4:3, widescreen CRTs were super massive, super expensive and super rare, so no matter what aspect ratio the SNES outputted, it was still displayed in glorious full 4:3, everywhere.

I am trying to get the dlc for fire emblem awakening to work on citra. I am using the nightly 1898 build because as far as I can tell it's the most recent one that will run on my antique ass pc. I installed the .cia file for the dlc using the menu, but when I try to access it in game I get an error saying it can't find a sd card. if I right click on the game in the emulator menu and click on "open dlc data location" the folder it takes me to is empty. if I back up a few levels I can see that the dlc data seems to have been installed in a different folder with a name that doesn't match the game's id. copying the files into the other folder doesn't fix the problem though. does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Come to think of it, Striker3X is spending a tremendous amount of time and effort to make an emulator that is ~almost~ as good as mednafen. Imagine how much efficient it would be if he just set out to improve on mednafen code, which has now ceased development, instead of starting from scratch.

Literally a UX fork. The only reason we know or care about it is because we didn't want to use that UX-less troonslop that is the standalone. See: Mupen. He also contributed to the core at one point. All these years later and we have one very small enhancement, and no SH2 or actual core Saturn emulation improvements. You'd almost have an argument with Beetle PSX.
>>
I hate looney troons but those faggots are the only ones who spent their lives improving emulation.

The only decently interesting piece of hardware Valve is offering this time 'round is the revised steam controller, it looks a tad big/bloated plus I hate that both sticks to be central but until I can try it firsthand I won't discard getting one.
