The only thing you don't get out of Rook runs is contract progress, which is fine in the future as they're decoupling contract progression from faction progress, same with materials grinds for baseline stat functionality. Will there be some luxury upgrades in the faction tree? Likely, but will they be necessary unless you're going an extra mile? Likely not. It's already like this at the end of S1, so in S2 even with just the Cradle and priority contract changes even the blackest gorilla nigger can make progress by going into N.Marsh as a Rook and just picking up garbage and exfilling. What you're essentially asking is a complete removal of the PvP aspect in hopes of thinking it would attract some magical unicorn that just loves picking up garbage in maps designed around team PvPvE. Will it happen at some point? Maybe, but it wouldn't be Marathon. My favourite time in this game was definitely the early-to-mid Season on the more open maps with larger emphasis on just finishing priority quests or just getting into shootouts. It's where i think the strongest DNA for this game really resides in. I can understand though that some people want to consider only the end-game as the only worthwhile thing, but there are plenty of those who don't so i think it would be to everyone's benefit that the game focuses the net as wide as possible in terms of making the PvP engaging at all levels of play.

I think the biggest struggle Bungie got into at the beginning of the Season had a lot to do with creating a framework where the high-end players wouldn't get into a massive melty by making sure there was new and challenging stuff to do on the weekly. Instead of that, we're now seeing the fallout of the focus on that end-game pipeline come bite the devs in the ass, as their release schedule on the more widely appealing content comes after what could be considered a very rocky launch in terms of player retention.

This already removes one layer of people feeling like they waste time and also helps that lower rung of the ladder feel that they're making progress, even in the case they get gunned down by a bunch of Arachne skinners. I think the emergent gameplay on the maps (both PvE and PvP) must play a key role in that equation. Currently if you look at practically all four maps in the game, each requires a bit of a different approach and have different objectives, so having something like Night time variants and a constant changes in the map ecosystems already introduce layers and layers of systems that will help that along. If you don't enjoy the genre at all, then there is practically nothing that can be done for the game without turning it into some scuffed looter shooter.

On one hand i sort of understand them wanting to have a reliable way for countering smokes and invisibility with optics, but it never should have been a thing on the longest range guns in the game that have 1-2 hit K.O potential. This will also increase the value of smokes in just countering ranged snipes, as you either have to push into the smoke or get into a range where thermals are at their peak. The coolest part is that they didn't mention the regular thermal optics getting the treatment so the CQC, mid-range options and DMRs will still retain valuable amount of anti-smoke options. Overall i don't think that thermals should ever return on extreme ranged high damage guns and rather keep the Thermal/IR and other vision options on the mid-range/long range rifles to give them a role in spotting, which currently really isn't needed as snipers just fulfill both roles without much issue.

The Cradle has a total of 84 pips, 6 rows of 14 (7*2). Stat upgrades don't scale, each costs 1 worm always. I wonder what the max level will be. I doubt they'll let the player have all the stats maxed out. Maybe 65, since that bar has the VIP color. But it's still not full, which is interesting. Maybe it'll be some other multiple of 7, which 65 isn't.

On one hand it did promote a series of localized competition for specific things, but at ít's worst it just felt stupid especially when there was a lot of RNG and time involved in the blue materials. I still think it could stay as a nice touch to leave the more oriented stuff like Traxus gun barter unlocks, keystone upgrades and the faction specialties into the tree as they actually are meaningful upgrades that you'll keep through the season and likely the stuff that you get each season could also change quite a bit. Like say Bully SMG goes out of "manufacture" and KKV or maybe BRRT is something that can be unlocked off the tree this season.

Pve should be a roguelight where you all start as rooks with nothing, every door on perimiter is locked and you need to find tunnels and vents to progress. Then you do missions and solve puzzles so you start new runs with some gear or door keys and unlock shells by finding them in one of a few random places e.g a Vandal in the tick nests in the underground.

Algae ponds in general has pretty poor sight for snipers with the exception of straight towards intersection and some finicky ones towards Greenhouse. Peeking towards AI Uplink and the areas closer to Maintenance is like needles in a haystack. AI Uplink is much harder to root away from Sniper teams solely because you only have two possible directions with very few being covered so you got to take underground path or eat a bullet and bleed out in the swamp ass of nowhere.
Baby's first Cryo exfil, finally got at least some subroutines on the board. Trying to hit as many as I can on the way out of this patch hoping that other scrubs are in the same boat as me. Sentinel trophy system can't come soon enough. Also first time getting killed by the goo gun which was really annoying because I'm almost certain the team using it had teamed with the other one we were fighting because they refused to attack each other. Cryo is definitely a spectacle but fighting in it is so unfun, it's basically doorway control simulator and seeing who's 3rd is dumb enough to walk forward.

I'm trying cryo more now that season is about to end. I made the mistake of picking up the item that activates a boss encounter in a frozen room while my teammates were right outside. I got locked in with this boss fight and obviously died. I kept trying to escape which I realized too late there is no way out except to kill the boss. 2 self revives later I just died in there and the red barrier was still up, so my team had no way to even revive me or finish the boss or anything. Nearly 200 hours in and I still have yet to see the goo gun in a match. I saw my first gold shield out side of cryo for the first time just the other day.
