There's enemies you have to kill that just stand on max range somewhere on a mountain shooting you, everything about it is just so infuriating

>>568935205Your first choice almost doesn't matter. You can change schools at any time, and lenses get are pretty straightforward to get later on. In the long term you'll want to have all of them at least partially upgraded for the waybound abilities. New players are usually recommended Zenurik for energy, but if you have enough energy then the best waybound to unlock first is Last Gasp from Unairu. Every school except Naramon is reasonably strong sees regular usage, and even Naramon is strong as long as you're a melee player.
