Ogryn are as strong as marines and already stronger than SoB, so saying power armor would imbalance things isn't really true.

Power armor would be more durable than any armor currently in the game, but you can balance that by making it the class's gimmick. Just like how scum gets to customize their chems and skiitaari will customize their servo skull, SoB would customize their power armor. You have several ways to balance it, with more or less speed vs more or less damage reduction, and various attachments like an auspex or a hospitallier arm or a heavy bolter ammo backpack, etc. There's so much you can do with the armor itself being the customization element, rather than just saying "power armor would be hard to balance".

Nobody is asking for marines because that actually would throw off the balance, but SoB are just well trained and well equipped humans. Novitiates use carapace armor, and have regular flamers, regular bolters, autoguns, and no meltas. So Novitiates are legitimately too similar to Veterans and Zealots in terms of gameplay. You need the things SoB are known for to set them apart mechanically from Zealots.

But as I have already said multiple times, the armor itself can be the SoB's class gimmick, just like the stims that already exist for the ganger and the servo skull is going to be for admech.

It is lore compliant for SoB to assist in a situation like exists in the game, and it's also completely fine in terms of gameplay since they have already featured Ogryn which are depicted as being able to do less than their lore depictions already.

The alternatives to SoB exist as well, as I discussed here >>568619851, but none of them are as iconic to 40k as sob. A cold trader, a xenos mercenary, a rogue trader's voidsman, a ratling, and a few other things exist as other possible class options, but none of them are as iconic, and all of them have various problems. Like a voidsman is going to be too similar to the Veteran, and a Cold Trader is just going to be a veteran with eldar weaponry, etc. So they're not better in terms of gameplay diversity than the SoB. SoB are absolutely the foremost logical options for the next class. It's that simple.

Not necessarily raised from birth. Sure some are raised by the order but others enter when they are adolescents or teens. Scholas often have a veteran Sister on staff to advise young women in case they feel a calling to join. They will complete their basic education at the schola while doing some practical training before graduating and making a decision.

And not every sister is trained to be a one woman army. For every sister that wears power armor and charges against the enemies of the Imperium in battle there are dozens who are either still novitiates, or are support staff (think chapter serfs for a space marine comparison). Some sisters feel a stronger calling to learn and will serve the order in other ways, such as members of the dialogus who translate and research texts or sisters that specifically tend to a shrine or order holding. While they are also combat ready they wont necessarily serve on the front lines. There are plenty of sisters who will never rise above a middling rank but that doesnt diminish their contribution to their order.

two alternatives are the kickback with surgical, a crit with its minimum pellet count can snipe them but youre still falling into a longer total time to actually kill them
the ripper is also noteworthy due to the pellet count doing some work, and while its not enough to kill, its very accurate on the first burst after a very quick swap and will 100% knock them down hard, talking them out of the fight for a decent bit and theyll likely die the 2nd time around

Space marines are meant to struggle with the enemies they fight. Trying to hack and slash through a bio engineered alien is not meant to be easy.

The problem is that SM2 fails to make weapons satisfying to use while doing so. I sure do love having to expend an entire bolter magazine on this fleshy alien. Feels wonderful. "Wait for opening" is a lot less fun to me than "create opening", and SM2 often forces you to wait, which becomes annoying when it's frequent.

I am worried about the Skitarii weapons. No doubt due to the way the tree is organized and the basic laziness of the swedes to just add +15% to everything, the tree itself will be very strong. What has me concerned is that we might end up with another Scum where there's function only two weapons you'd ever actually use. The Galvanic Rifle in that clip we saw is giving me major Headhunter Rifle flashbacks, which would be a disaster. No doubt the footage they showed in that was also on Malice or some shit because Fatshark balanced around Malice as we all know. The shock maul is clearly supposed to synergize with the Arc Rifle (from what we know about the Arc Rifle, it seems they probably want you to use the Arc Rifle to stun a bunch of shit and then use the Maul with a temporary damage boost from the Arc Rifle to clear in melee), but the issue is that this seems really wasteful time wise and Smigger exists. The Phosphex Pistol sets off alarm bells in my head because I can't imagine how they'll make it useful unless they just copy the AIDS pistol. The Arc Rifle also has a potentially very large problem of needing to compete with the Flamer (it's AoE clear, CC weapon) but can't hurt a single thing beyond 10 meters. The variant we are getting according to the fluff is ammo pool restricted due to not having a backpack power source, so making it even more like the Flamer in all possibility.

The Tranny Blades seem like they might just be a gimmick based off that fluff text about how they work from the event. If you have to actively pick between, say, Flak or Carapace modes via alt fire then shits fucked already due to the prevalence of mixed hordes. It feels like it could be the Bone Saw 2.0 in a way, or maybe the crowbar. Both bad.

The upshot is that due to the Skitarii's background and the weapons we know it gets (Power Sword), it might just, frustratingly be a scenario where the actual useful weapons are the core shared pool.

Sure, but fundamentally even when adjusted certain weapons still aren't worth a damn. The other classes can suffer through this because they have a fairly extensive pool of class specific weapons (except Ogryn), so they'll come up Milhouse on at least a dozen weapons in the grand scheme of things. The problem with the new classes is that we both know that isn't the case due to no updates. Arbites is pretty lucky. Hive Scum got fucked with the most boring weapons also being the strongest. And my fears I feel are merited based on this. Arbites weapons (except like two) are strong. The Scum has two very strong weapons and then a bunch of meh/bad weapons. The Skitarii concern I have is that the design of the weapons incoming for it are largely going to be bad or counterintuitive. The Zealot flamer build is only so strong because the Zealot is strong in melee and it has knives you trick shot with. The Skitarii does not strike me as a melee class, but rather a utility class with a range focus. That's fine because the Skitarii are not (generally) good in melee, in lore or in TT. AdMech is supposed to be a gun line army, but the retards at GW refuse to let them excel at it despite that being their whole design. The one time when they were good at being a gun line army, they got nerfed so fast that it was preposterous. And it was mainly because people could build bricks of Skitarii who could actually shoot well and were hard to shift due to auras from cheap HQ options. GW heard the SM faggots bitch and have made sure to never make the mistake of AdMech being good ever again (for point of reference: I am talking about something that happened over half a decade ago).

I think this comment highlights an important problem in darktide's design, and it's most evident in damage-based abilities(think of assail). There is no fucking chance something can be balanced in the easiest AND hardest modes just by dealing damage. Shit like maxHP damage or CC scales just fine but things like assail, brain burst, ogryn frag bomb(had to be buffed to instakill humabsize enemies, it wasnt doing that already lol) will never be innately balanced just by damage. Shit like guns and melee weapons have far more operational range of damage output since it's assumed you'll level them up as you get better and do harder missions, but abilities don't scale as well. The real problem is enemies just have so much variance in hp, vs drg where enemies get like 20% more hp total going from level 1 to 5/6

They literally *have* to be able to with how frequently they’re outnumbered. What I want is a deathwatch game that plays like an updated version of star wars republic commando. Let us choose the equipment for our 5 man kill team then play through the level. Different equipment would give different prompts, like a guy with a sniper rifle can be ordered to a perch and he'll take out priority targets at range, or a demolitions guy could blow a hole in a wall for a new way to advance the level, heavy bolter guy can set up at some terrain and run overwatch, that kind of shit. Multiplayer you just have people take over for the NPCs without missing a beat.

I think there's a gem of a game buried under the issues and have little doubt Ghost Ship can polish it up before launch (I played DRG in early access and that game was rough) but a solid 70% of complaints come from DRG players getting skill checked by any semblance of challenge. They want the timer removed, they want friendly fire removed, they want regenerating health and ammo, they want a difficulty lower than hazard 1. The difference between haz1/2 lobbies and haz3/4 lobbies is night and day, like auric used to be when it was contained to its own menu where only players who overcame the learning curve dared to go.

Probably my muscle memory from playing the other classes, especially psyker and arb. With the shivs I would find myself in a situation where I needed to dodge an incoming crusher or mauler, push to make space, then dodge into a poxwalker that barely stumbled. With the tacaxe I actually get some maneuvering room on top of lawnmower mode with rampage up. Shivs do feel like they kill faster, but being comfortable with the moveset helps me more.
