Feeling a little sad. Just had to Toybox my Kibellah romance in Act 5. I finished the romance and noticed she wasn't kissing anymore so j though that was weird. Looked up and found out about the whole true love ending. Crazy thing is I was already at 3 points somehow but the etude never activated since I think I picked the wrong option at the very beginning. Had to lose about 3 hours to get back to a save that was early enough. I fucking hate how obtuse Owlcat makes shit sometimes. I'm trying to finish this run before the next DLC but I can already tell that getting a good ending with Cassia is going to be painful. That part in Durlags tower where you realize the entire reason the tower and all its defenses were constructed was not to protect his treasures and family, but to seal himself inside the tower eternally, since all of the people he loved were dead and gone, killed in the most treacherous and fucked up way possible. Which lead to the construction of the tower to make sure no one could ever fool him again, dooming himself to the remainder of his existence being that of madness and destruction, which was a combination of his paranoia after what had happened to him, and his own self hatred for letting it happen to begin with and losing all the people he cared about in the worst way possible. Durlags tower is still the best dungeon ever made in CRPG history, both thematically and mechanically and I think it is the height of the BG series as a whole, as well.

One of the issues with a romance like Disco's is that it doesn't actually matter how much Owlcat writes about how your character is throwing up and having a migraine, the average reader will still just go for the attractive picture. They can write a 5000 word essay about the exact way in which you throw up on yourself and then your eyes roll around in your head and your brain splits from an intense migraine, since you're not actually experiencing those sensations, the average player will still just say "she's hot". The average person doesn't roleplay in such a way that they actually look out for their character and avoid pain or discomfort like we would in real life if it was actually us.This is true for other things too. If a choice involved reaching into lava to retrieve a bag of gold, if there were no mechanical downside it was just prose, every non-roleplayer would just instantly do it.Now, what occurred to me that would be simply incredible for Owlcat to do, is mechanical bonus and malus attached to the romances. That would be an evolution of romance content, to actually gain combat or skill bonus or malus. Disco would give you some meaningful malus to your Morale during combat and being near her in the party formation would lower your Awareness since you're distracted by migraine. The roleplayers would love this because it's realistic and immersive, and the non-roleplayers would have to actually consider romance for a change. I would really love a system like this.
