So I started playing ranked and not even an hour after I hit gold he started going on and on about how "Gold's pretty easy to get to." Then I beat him in the race to Plat to which he decided the ranked system is just bad and quit the game in gold 3 or so while I was between p2 and p1 getting MMR'd with people in Diamond. It's like the second he realized he wasn't better than me just because he spent more hours a day playing Ranked because I had a job that the whole point of playing the game to begin with was lost on him.He grew out of it now that he's married, works, and has a kid but I would argue it came from a "he really only had being decent at video games giving him a sense of purpose" angle.
