Remember when Nessus had all that growth from the Echos Episode? They never fully implemented it, or even adding a revamped version of the Nexus, Echo Chamber, or Winter's Run Strikes from D1 onto Nessus would have been really cool, having a dungeon too? but I digress. All in all its wasted potential. Lightfall, Kepler, and Lawless Frontier are terrible settings and bloat, and I really mean that. They legitimately dedicated an expansion to Star Wars before creating more Destiny content, and at that point I seriously believe that only the narrative teams and leads are responsible for this shit. And it's sad that reddit and or really this game's community will NEVER make that connection because for some reason they think anyone who isn't dictating orders is some sort of poor victim of corporate decision making. It has genuinely gotten worse since they introduced the grandmaster nightfall concept in Shadowkeep.They buffed up the amount of time you're given and then in return, they made GMs much more tight in execution and they made segments actively annoying to play through. Throwing buggy champions into the mix that overwhelm you, decreasing your overall damage output and then capping your progression if you dared to grind the lower difficulty in comparison. All for what, Adept weapons? Cool, Adept weapons that legitimately never had any use outside of like 2 in the history of the entire game, both of them being on the GM strikes that were so buggy and broken and cheese-able that they had to re-design them, and they only just made them more miserable to play through.Strikes just aren't fun in Destiny 2 anymore. Ignoring the fact we pretty much haven't got any in ages. I've barely played the Lightfall one because it was never in rotation. It's also the issue of gun balance, guns were pointless when I stopped playing because ability spam ruled the meta, and they didn't do anything but build around ability spam in strikes for like an entire year. HoIL was fun, yea, but it really felt like strikes never recovered from that meta.

Back when Destiny was announced with the Pathways vidoc I thought that it was going to be the spacefaring RPG to lift me from the disappointment of parts of Mass Effect 3. With the benefit of hindsight, Bungie should've stayed in their lane making linear sci-fi FPS games with significant social aspects. Destiny's narrative- especially so Destiny 2- when taken together is a pathetic collection of wasted potential and toddler-quality writing that is CONSTANTLY underscored by some of the most cringe-inducing humor I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. I remember Bungie talking about how the Guardian was so much cooler than Master Chief because of their misguided obsession with allowing for a pure self-insert instead of realizing that the best self-insert character is the one that fits the aesthetic of the story the most. Master Chief was that for Halo. If they respected their own success more they would've seen that a near-silent character is infinitely less competent as a vessel for a space RPG than one with a personality. They naturally would've realized that they would never match Mass Effect, and that they'd never be better than Commander Shepard.
