However, the last several hours of the story were also added in an update and happen in basically a separate mode with a separate save file, and in that mode the reward is unlocked automatically even if you don't complete the action chain challenges. So maybe wait until you finish the story, then if you like the game enough that you want to keep playing beyond the story you can unlock everything in the rest of the game too
