It brings up a lot of story from the first game and is still ultimately low budget janky game made for fans. It's a pretty decent sendoff for the series, especially Oshtor. Just a shame how censored the game was. They got rid of nearly every upskirt in the game and there was not a single fanservice CG in the game, not even for the men. Overall if you're a fan of uta you'll love the finale with all the references and throwbacks it has to every chapter of the series. You can tell it's a game for fans.

It has the same setting as Muv-Luv Extra and several of the characters from Kiminozo are important side characters in Alternative. It's a more grounded and serious romance drama, whereas Muv-Luv Extra is an older style of moege with a lot of comedy. There's also a short game between them called Akane Maniax that introduces the Muv-Luv cast, and it got a translation recently. Again you don't actually have to read those, though. If you're only interested in Muv-Luv it's perfectly fine to start there.

Despite being fairly standard, the setting feels more realistic than I'd expected since Elias runs into trouble more often than not and experiences many losses in his pursuit of justice. Some of the darker elements in this story are written with such a cruel realism that they wouldn't usually belong into this type of game.
