>golden dandelion and baby improvements bad
both of these changes allow for the creation builds with permanent mobs in them, and the new baby mobs unironically look 10x better than the old ones. adding a chicken coup with 2 chicks and 3 chickens with the guarantee that it will always have 2 chicks and 3 chickens is a useful feature. having a dog kennel with puppies that never grow up is an actually novel and useful feature. mobs, for all their faults, add at least some semblance of life to builds that you otherwise won't have, and the golden dandelion allows mobs to be fixtures. you under-utilizing a useful feature for building because you don't build or think building is pointless in a sandbox game where you can fight monsters, create farms from turning-complete contraptions that are miles wide, build a cobblestone dick, spend years on a giant city build, and anything in between is a playstyle issue of your own doing.

I doubt it's sincere, but either way when one's take is so shit it doesn't matter if it is a real opinion or not, the effective result is that it's ragebait. You can have actual productive discussion around arguments and criticisms made in good faith but that clearly ain't it.

this is specifically talking about pre-adventure update minecraft

simplicity, better terrain generation, no retarded structures spammed all over the world, more satisfaction from building large structures because the grind is harder, etc.

combat is still dogshit

modern nether is more interesting, I'll give you that

I much prefer old caves than the fuckass giant holes we have now

boats actually working is one of the few merits of modern
I don't play modern or old (alpha, beta, etc.) minecraft, but I can see why someone would choose either. they are very different feeling games
>>

>>570023167
>villagers were a mistake in general. they never should have been added, and completely break the meta
I don't hate villagers/villages but I think they're both too common and too easily accessible

I use a datapack to make villages generate further apart and makes it so that a majority of villages generate as the zombie/abandoned village, so you actually have to work towards getting them cured if you want to reap the benefits or you have to get lucky and find a village that isn't zombified.

>Jappa made some improvements to textures, but I still think his textures are worse overall
Part of it is Jappa did make some textures worse overall, and part of it is that late beta versions and the Adventure Update is where the game began the trend of sucking the color and contrast out of a lot of textures

I prefer the bunker approach. Just build a nice small cozy house on the surface, and then build your mega storage, automatic farms, trading halls and all other autism entirely underground under it. That way everything will look nice from the outside, your farms and other big facilities won't be an eyesore on the surrounding nature and you branch them out in any direction horizontally and vertically without having to worry about reconciling an interior with an exterior.

>combat is still dogshit
you know what, i'll concede this. spam clicking is still worse than what we have in modern, but all of the combat options still feel disparate and clunky. modern pvp is still far more entertaining to watch, but combat has never been the games strongest point. i still think modern is relatively better than "classic" in every metric, but it's still not good.
>>
I will never not be mad about this

And I'm not one to call Mojang lazy, because I know that redoing every baby mob was no small feat, and they did some cool stuff with recipes and villager trades under the hood. But the optics of releasing a drop where all perceived actual new content boils down to just one item are crazy. Like they could at least have thrown in the lavander from the Juan meme
>>
>>570042501
the fact they didn't take this chance to either give the sniffer another use by having it dig up the golden dandelions, or use this opportunity to implement the moobloom as a way to get the golden dandelions is still bizarre to me
>>
>>570042501
I mean, the optics are fine unless you(not you specifically but certain types of online grifters) are being purposefully disingenuous and only consider 'new item' as new content.

I think Tiny Takeover definitely could have used more (IMO drops in general are too rushed to get proper feedback and implement it, which is why I'm glad they showed off the new drop early to get early feedback from players) to it but it had enough for me to be okay with it. Not one of my favorite drops

>>570043481
That wouldn't really have fit the theme of the update, which was primarily updating the baby mob models and textures alongside the continuing under-the-hood work they're doing(refactoring Java edition code, adding multi-threading to separate rendering into its own thread, etc). And the golden dandelion isn't really designed like a sniffer plant which are decorative anyways.
>>
>>570042501
I was really expecting them to add pet beds or something, based on the way Agnes was hyping it up
>>
>>570047108
at the very least, they could have given the golden dandelion a potion/status effect like all the other golden item variants have (golden/notch apple, golden carrot, glistering melon). maybe something fun like making the player one block tall. they already have the ability to change the size of the player/mobs as seen in some april fools' snapshots
>>
>>570024472
>Part of it is Jappa did make some textures worse overall, and part of it is that late beta versions and the Adventure Update is where the game began the trend of sucking the color and contrast out of a lot of textures
tbf to jappa, he didn't make the textures "worse", he made them significantly better *for the direction mojang was pushing the entire block palette towards*. before "block palette" was even in the lexicon, they were trying to make blocks both immediately recognizable AND have a single, specific color identity with low enough internal contrast to provide that color identity while still making each block unique. he was also trying to make the blocks have a uniform texture to them so that if a large amount of them was present, tiling wasn't so obvious. the beta 1.7 cobble has inconsistent internal stone sizes that look repetitive when viewed at a middle distance. ultimately, it is a taste thing, though.

And IMO some of his textures are just too blurry.

In my pack some of the textures (for blocks, items, etc) I use are programmer art, some are still jappas, some are modified versions from either, and a few are modernized versions of programmer art textures. I think the overall art style of the earlier game, while messy and in need of clean up, was

>>570080759
Finding watchable let's players without lowering your expectations enough to watch slop requires digging through countless low view count channels until you find a good one (only to find out they only have like 5 videos and haven't uploaded in a year)
If you're willing to watch videos that are just about Minecraft without actually being let's plays it's a bit easier, so long as you're also willing to watch Beta content. Since the audience for the Beta Minecraft videos are considerably older it means the content is usually much more calm and mature. However Beta MC youtubers also aren't perfect, as a lot of them spend a lot of time circlejerking about how "old MC good new MC bad" instead of actually playing the game.

That's because of children watching on their parents phones or smart tvs.

>>

>>570098180
>In-lore reason I can come up with is that maybe witches and illagers are somehow half-undead
My thought was that witches are involved in dark magic and have some vvoodoo to make undead ignore them, not necessarily being undead themselves. Illagers get that benefit too because witches are their allies (show in village raids). Plus illagers have some magic of their own (undying, evoker).
If mojang weren't bereft of imagination they'd add a way to allow players to join the illager faction.

Similar question about pigmen but I guess zombie pigmen are passive and living pigmen are smart enough to not antagonize the undead so it is more obvious.
>>

>If mojang weren't bereft of imagination they'd add a way to allow players to join the illager faction.

There should be a tower on both of those hills
>>

Nostalgiafags will look at this and say how it was better when hills were only like 30 blocks tall but had stupid overhangs and levitating terrain everywhere

>>570131870
Indeed

>>570134439
It would be better if there was more overhangs and levitating terrain. 1.18 mountains and the classic 'extreme hills' both have a place in the game IMO.

>>570071360
>>570134837
kek totally didn't realize I forgot to finish my sentence

basically what I was gonna say is that the game's art style earlier on was much more defined and iconic, Jappa made things more consistent with 1.14 but stripped away a lot of what made the game 'pop'. Blocks used to be more defined which allowed even simple builds to look good. Now blocks are more muted, less contrast-y and less saturated overall which has led to the rise of people using blocks more like 'paint' and led to the blockvomit art style

Problem is that modern terrain is too samey. You can't possibly think that floating chunks of hills and shit were not cool. Like come on now, this game is meant to be fantasy.

you find terrain like that around meadows and other mountainous biomes, because of how the game generates their height they can affect normal biomes around them which is why you can see a forest, birch forest and spruce forest on a mountain range
>>
>>570145248
The dumb thing is that we still have the windswept biomes, they're just too few and far between. We're this close to the best of both worlds, but Mojang loves their fucking realism

Can't they just generate the static bodies of water at different elevations and let Minecraft's default gravity do the rest? Isn't like they have this sort of care with the fucked up aquifers.

any ideas to clear out this island? Don't care about the wood, axeing it is slow. don't want to tnt it, want to preserve the actual island for a build. been flint and steeling it but it's still too slow for my tastes. miss when fire spread like crazy.

Lava buckets on top of trees.
Watch from a non burnable block close and pick back up the lava after it spread a bit to do the same to the next tree.

I don not believe for a second there will be a new dimension in the main game anytime soon. Not until the End is revamped at least, and that is likely still quite a long way away while they are slowly doing underlying work.

People used to complain about water/lava making a mess by spawning on higher terrain.
you wont get any natural waterfalls anymore. unless a lush/water cave biome spawns inside a mountain which is incredibly rare. and then it will look like a mess too

>However Beta MC youtubers also aren't perfect, as a lot of them spend a lot of time circlejerking about how "old MC good new MC bad"
^this. the amount of times I've dropped a channel because these guys think so highly of themselves for no other reason than playing on a beta version. they really be complaining about "block vomit" and "block palette bloat" on new MC versions whilst building their ugly cobblestone towers. just play on 1.8 or 1.16. take your pick.

>>570186792

Fake news. There are literally biomes named stony peaks and jagged peaks. Windswept hills, although rare, also still exist.
>>
>>570207163
It's true that old terrain had more flatter areas suitable for building. Everything being hilly and elevated is my main gripe with new terrain.
But holy fuck how much I hated those shit ass water pools littering every goddamn chunk. Good fucking riddance. I can't believe they didn't also remove the lava ones while they were at it though.

The fact the only flat terrain now are meadows and those only spawn on top of hills sucks. What if you wanted flat terrain at sea level like before?
The terrain is just way too bumpy. Since it's so bumpy it brings down the scale of the actual mountains a lot too, as they're just bumps of the bumps. Flattening out the terrain makes those mountains, actually mountains
>>
>>570221509
That's not correct though, meadows are literally a mountainous biome, intended as a mountainous version of plains. The problem is everything generally gets hilly to a point where you can often hardly tell the differenece between plains and meadow terrain

Like the first two images here are plains, and it's a good 20 blocks about ocean level. Plains are meant to be the flat/ground biome but it's there next to a cherry grove in the mountainous zone. You see in the 2nd image where the ocean level is at, everything is above it, all that land and more, it's treating that as the new default level instead of ocean level. Those mountains in the back look pathetic because it
3rd is what I mean with the meadows, it's flatter than the plains but is 30 blocks above ocean level. There's just nothing flat anymore, everything's on a raised up continent like the 1st/2nd images or on isolated plateaus like the 3rd image

legitimately forgot this was even in the game. why does mojang insist on adding ginmick features that are used once and never though about again?
>>
>>570234068
Sounds like a you issue. I always carry a brush in my Ender chest. If I stumble upon an ocean ruin or a desert temple, I brush around to see what I can dig out. I like collecting pottery sherds so I can use pots for decoration in new builds.
>>
what would be a unique enchantment you could give the brush to both flesh it out and flesh out the enchanting system? I still maintain that every enchantable item should have a unique enchantment of some kind. maybe an enchantment to up the chance of finding treasure (sherds, diamonds, emeralds, music discs, etc.)? or maybe something that causes more armadillo scutes to drop? or maybe something that lets you brush normal gravel and sand? gravel would drop flint 100% of the time. not sure what sand would drop. maybe it could drop red sand and red sand could drop normal sand for a way to easily convert between the two. or maybe there could be a rare chance to get a turtle egg

These are both obvious answers and also something I'm pretty sure is already possible to implement under the current data-driven enchantments system. I might be stealing this.

I have a zombie villager in my custody. My plan was to make this room a villager breeding room and now I'm wondering if I should let the zombie-villager loose on them to infect them to heal them later and get epic loots and discounts.

there need to be more unique armor pieces/weapons like the turtle helmet that grant baked in potion effects. it's a cool idea that has been used a grand total of ONE time. could be a way to add the Boots of Swiftness from Dungeons and the movie
>>
>>570238546
getting trades for 1 emerald is always the correct option. why would you not do it?
>>
>>570238983
well we kinda already do
leather boots let you walk on powdered snow
gold armor makes you friendly with hoglins
so turtle helmet, elytra, gold pants, leather boots is technically a full set of "unique" armors
>>
>>570239273
fair, I did forget about leather boots and gold armor, but there need to be more
>>
>>570238983
No. I hate having a hundred different specialized items that I would constantly have to remember to switch between depending on what I'm doing. Let me just put all relevant enchantments from Respiration and Aqua Affinity to Soul Speed and Swift Sneak on my one set of armor so I don't have to think about it.
>>
>>570239863
maybe I'm weird, but I like switching between armor sets for different uses. but right now the only two I ever really use are my fire protection set with a pair of frost walker, soul speed gold boots for working in the nether and normal protection with depth strider boots for everything else. conduits make the turtle shell pretty useless when working underwater, so I never have the need for that, and projectile protection and blast protection are pretty useless. also, there need to be more curses in the game and all traded enchanted books should come with a curse of some kind. would at least somewhat nerf the villager trading meta
>>
They should add enchantment that increase mobility and visibility under lava.
>>
>>570242903
just add it to fire protection t b h. giving all the specific protection enchantments a unique secondary effect like that might make them worth considering

>>570240836
I'd like it too, if it wasn't for how little inventory space the game offers and how long it takes to get shit out of ender shulkers whenever you need to switch your gear. Improve on that, and I'd support adding more unique pieces
>>
>>570253126
Can I brush bats?
>>
>>570253126
Literally the most pointless mechanic ever. Armadillos already drop scales periodically. Put one in a 1x1 hole above a hopper and you'll be set with scales for life.
>>
>>570257194
You need a toothbrush for that, I'm afraid
>>
>>570253942
for armor, they need to add a way to quick swap, so you can just walk on a pressure plate or something and your entire armor set is swapped out with a different one. I know you can use an armor stand, but that requires manually derobing first and clearing out your hotbar so you can right click the new armor on
