The rewards are generally set depending on the energy run you get. The gold one has a 1day energy bonus as its final reward, the blue one has 200 energy as the reward, the red one has 2500 event coins.

And these are the nerfed versions. The blue ones used to have a 3day energy bonus, PLUS about 290 energy awarded halfway through it just because (200 + 60 + 30). And they awarded gems, and creature food, and fertilizer, it was glorious.

I'm not, so it let me progress through subsequent energy runs, easily complete events like crests and the carnival, and progress at about 1 Beyond Volume 2 chapter a day. I was enjoying the brisk pace. Now with the nerf it's back to slowville for me. I'm gonna use one of the 5 min infinite energy rewards in the harvest shop and power through creature food collecting to complete this energy run so I can get the 1 day bonus, and use it on the next energy run.
