I'm not really sure they ever stated how planet conquering will work and if a planet ever truly stays conquered but considering that the gameplay is mostly going to consist of randomly generated system maps I don't see how the overarching campaign isn't going to just be spinning wheels, at least far more than any other TW campaign. Regardless of if the mid-progress battle stuff involves other guys just fighting off-screen, which we don't know, battle objectives are gay and remind me of release Rome 2 and the shit Realms of Chaos battles.

yeah Blessed Saurus Warriors are rape trains. "Damage dealer" should probably be on their unit card since it's possible to overlook that difference between them and the base unit at a glance.
but I'm pretty sure the ap label just gets applied based on the ap:base ratio and if it's higher than 1 the unit is labeled armor-piercing.

we can make the same comparison between, say, Miners and Chosen of Khorne (Dual Weapons). the takeaway is that marginal points of armor will be more effective at reducing the damage dealt by Blessed Saurus Warriors/Chosen (Dual Weapons), than it would be vs Temple Guard/Miners

That too. After being exhausted, MA alone goes down by 30%. In other words, if two equal units fight when exhausted, the Perfect Vigor one has almost 50% higher MA. Stack penalties to MD, armor and charge bonus and equal fight turns into one-sided slaughter.

AP label gets applied automatically if unit has more than 50% armor piercing. I'd like to point out that you got your things backwards in your "miners vs chosen" comparison however. Its not about lower-tier unit just having high ap-fraction, that is nothing special. Its about lower tier unit having so much non-ap damage that they deal more AP damage even as minority fraction than a higher-tier dedicated AP unit. So for example if Dwarf Warriors had so much damage they weren't labelled as AP, but dealt more AP damage per swing than Chosen Halberds. That'd be ridiculous, just like Blessed Saurus Warriors

Also there's the consideration of leapfrogging. Most low-tier infantry have 60-70hp. With +10% ws tech and +15% ws redline skill, Blessed Saurus Warriors reach 80 damage per swing. That means against low-tier infantry with low armor, they're going to oneshot instead of two-shotting them, spiking their damage output ridiculously. When charging, they're guaranteed to oneshot <60 armor units on contact. And they NEVER tire.

Charlemagne takes a page from Shogun 2's playbook. While each roster has unique models, stats are mostly standardized across unit types between factions with only one or 2 'signature' units in each roster to distinguish them and a few options missing to give them some weaknesses.
IIRC Mercia has the best shield wall unit in the game but are weaker in cavalry, which isn't as big of a downside as you'd think because cav are super nerfed compared to base Attila.

It's funny you should mention FotS and RotS because they did change siege maps. FotS introduced a starfort final upgrade for castles and RotS introduced an early tier castle map without walls. Rise of the Republic also introduced a new unique map for Rome and changed the walls of all settlements. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that I should not have to reckon with the fact that Charlemagne's Francia has cities identical to the WRE for some reason while Mercia has shithole barbarian cities (iirc). Rome didn't even get a unique new map which means the city center is inaccurately based around the Palatine and Capitoline rather than the Campus Martius. For fuck's sake despite being controlled by the Papal States in the DLC the map doesn't even have church models sprinkled in the Vatican.

I think almost every faction gets them except for the nords, celts and slavs (ie the DLC boys). The Romans and Persians get them a building-tier earlier in their tech tree while most barbarians have to wait until the final tier of their siege engineer building.

If you win a battle against an army using artillery and wipe out the crew, you have a small chance to capture the artillery piece (even if your faction can't normally recruit it) as long as there's a free slot for it in your army. So even if you play someone without normal access to it like the Jutes, you can steal one from the Sassanids or intentionally spawn rebellions in roman settlements and farm Large Onagers from the rebel armies.

Talons is just Pit of Shades with less impactful graphics, and no vacuum physics effect (I think).

The AoE slow is cool. The summon is good, but unexciting. The missile mirror is unique. The wind spell is cool in a siege, otherwise just pretty pink.

But yeah, very unlike Yang which has 100% uptime, everything on cooldown, and has aplomb styling and sound effects.

I still like a Yin caster, just quieter uses. Good army to bring a secondary mage, whereas Yang can gobble up a whole WoM reservoir.

It’s nuts how good Yang partners with Metal. Zhao Ming can debuff armour at 145% intensity, and pretty much eliminate heavy infantry with any of his fire damage.

I haven't played in a long time but I don't know how to play anymore. There's too many enemies. Playing as Karl Franz. By turn 12 I've defeated The Barrow Legion and taken Artois and Gisoreux. By then Festus the Leechlord has conquered all of Hochland so I declare war on him and march northeast. I defeat him by turn 26 but by then all of Couronne has been destroyed by Norsca, all of Carcassonne and Bastone has been conquered by Grom the Paunch, All of Talabacland has been conquered by Syvania and my next door neighbor in Hergig is fucking Throt the Unclean who has conquere the Ice Court and now sits next to me in Wolfenburg.

Turn 26. My only ally is Rorek Granitehand immediately to my west.

So I go to war with Vlad von Carstein and start restoring the empire to the east but by the time I get to Castle Templehof I have to peace out and run back as fast as I can because by turn 40 World Walkers own everything to my north, destroying Middenland and Marienburg and declaring war on me and sending 5 armies to destroy Altdorf. I rush back in time to watch them take Castle Artois, Gisoreux, Blackstone Post and even Eilhart my heartland city in Reikland itself. I defeat all of those armies but lose all of Hochland and Talabheim to Throt the Unclean.

By turn 60 I have 4 cities left. Altdorf, Eilhart, Grunberg and Helgart. Eilhart is owned by World Walkers again; wood elves own everything to my south, Throt is sending about 6 armies to the west, World walkers are sending about 5, there are no neutral or order factions left in the game but me and Rorek Granitehand..

I can't do this. This game can't support this many legendary lords in such a tiny space.

Mechanics question.
Many sources, including the wiki, Zerkovich's video on fatigue, the TWW stats unit cards page and even its "fatigue effects" page state that when a unit is Exhausted it loses 10% of its AP weapon strength.

But unlike all of the other stats affected by fatigue, I don't see this represented on the unit card in-game. Is this a known bug? Is the penalty failing to apply, or is it applying correctly but failing to appear on the unit card? I feel like I'd have to teach myself modding to test this properly.

He can be very hard or not that difficult. Anyways its not the steamroll it used to be. You used to only have Skrolk and Luthor, both of whose chaff Saurus and Kroak chew through like Grom in all-you-can-eat buffet. Now you got Rakarth, Skulltaker, Masque and possibly Alberic as well. You'll likely want to secure south first so Rakarth doesnt get to spam his monsters, but that means Skulltaker and Masque have time to build up. Skulltakers wrathmongers are ridiculous since low model count means Kroak cant delete them and they decimate Saurus. Masque is bit easier, but gigabuffed Daemonettes will inflict heavy casualties, swamping you down. If Alberic is still alive at this point he'll be hitting Grail units, which similarly are a bitch to take down, especially if you're already fighting two other factions ganging up on you. And you still have the perfidious Harkon spamming endless chaff stacks as well.

Volkmar can be fun with Free Company Militia. There isnt other lord that focuses on fire on the move pseudo-skirmish infantry as far as I know. Markus is acquired taste for those who enjoy ballbusting. Definitely a different flavor of a campaign to be sure.

Ulthuan is great fun for how differently it can go. Alarielle busting everything down can be a dampener sure, but that doesnt always happen. In my last HE campaign she got nuked down by turn 12. Eltharion took Saphery in the meantime(??) but lost his original homelands to N'kari, so entire east was Slaanesh territory, with center being extremely secure but squeezed from the west by DE and east by Slaanesh.

Cathay (Miao) had to be amongst the most boring campaigns for me. The chinks have a surprisingly limited roster and you win every battle by just holding the line. You don't even get units that shake things up like slayers and copters for dwarfs. Only fun i had were the caravan battles and goated Shogun 2 announcer voice actor for lord magistrate.

I enjoyed lion stacks, replacing archers/artillery with Lions/crowmen. Makes for far more aggressive army, because Crowmen deal far more damage than their stats suggest. Make lions force enemy ranged kill themselves with Missile Mirror and instarout enemy line infantry with frontal charge + crowmen backcharge, leaving only cavalry (vastly outnumbered) after first 30 seconds. Later SEM-ish doomstacks with Celestial Guard + Terracotta Sentinels work great too. Or for gyrocopter-esque air force stack you can always go for Crowmen/Ligmas to snipe enemy ranged and then rain hell on them with Sky Junks.

Or you can be a boring fuck and build nothing but Jade Warriors, ranged and Fire Rains Rockets like always. You control the buttons you press.

On the subject of these bald moustached slavs, I noticed their buildings all add very small percentage based bonuses and build in a couple turns with a low cost. It's a weird faction so I have some questions for any anons that know the faction well.

I'm guessing I'm supposed to be occupying every damn thing and building wide and spamming these cheap farms right? Kind of adding up all these tiny bonuses to build a strong late game economy is the way it seems

And the ice court/orthodoxy thing represents heroes and magic vs infantry and cav? Like I can choose which side I want to build towards or should I be keeping both at about the same level?


Are kislevite warriors the shielded spearmen of Kislev as in they punch above their weight class in line holding? What exactly is my hammer unit? Bear sleds are tier 4, and I assume tsar guard/armored kossars are also line holders. Is it worth running 10 bow kossars until streltsi? I know akshina are good but I don't know if I should be flanking with them or keeping them in my backline.

Would Kostaltyn suit me better if I don't like to run more than 3 or 4 heroes per army? I want to try out their roster and watch the battle play out, not rely just on wizards or heroes to devastate the enemy on horseback.

The AI cheats from Lego difficulty must be making the difference. Lower the campaign difficulty till you get used to how the buildings and economy works and how to keep pace with the AI. Battles are pretty straightforward:

If you can get them off the cap, a unit of pikes or something in shield wall formation with guard mode on can pretty easily let you win on capture point. It's just that in most game the AI does a reasonable job of sticking units in the square and they will fight to the death.

In Rome 1 they (usually) kept at least a couple units on the point. Shogun 2 is the only game where I could reliably cap the point because it nearly always had a wall leading up to it and the Shogun 2 really liked spreading its army across the castle and had them constantly moving for some reason. Rome 2 removed units fighting to the death on the point iirc so it was also possible to cap the point there. With Medieval 2, Attila, and Three Kingdoms you'd be lucky to get even half your army to the inner part of the city/castle without being shredded by the towers.
