They're just fucked. Why would a new player want to pick up a game where they can't get the characters they want for months, and they can't compete with older players ever? At least some games separate players into ranking groups based on account age to alleviate this, but this game doesn't.

Bloc and Leona were the best parts of the event story. Sparkla was meh and I feel like Willow was unnecessary. Was Neo Grace ever mentioned before this story? I skipped Wraith's story and I haven't gotten around to chapter 7 yet.
