As cliche as it sounds this restlessness is in favor of blizzard, and regardless of preferences most of us simply want to find a decent place to play wow. I think it's imperative to figure out and prioritize a server that's the most likely to evade blizzard's purge, and that has the potential to still be up in a few years from now. Deep down I think most of us have grown tired of seeing characters disappear over the years. Whether the server is custom, whether it's your favorite xpac or mine, whether it's dying or already dead, I think these are the least of our worries at the moment. Fresh servers will never die, but it's tiresome to see them come and go so quickly.

>>570593993Those aren't new ones. The original RCE patcher was just about setting the memory region to read only like it should and is in any other version of WoW even older clients. The rest are well known way for someone to execute code on the machine and are made for that purpose, I wouldn't even call them an exploit. The updater can obviously by design execute code, the dll loader can obviously by design load dll that the server is giving to the client, the link opener handler will by design open stuff in your browser. Sure, it's useful to disable those if you are concerned about securities, but they are not exploits. The actual exploits are a chain of two things, first a buffer overflow allowing to write stuff somewhere, second a writable memory region that could be executed. The original RCE patch is fixing the latter, this new patcher is fixing the BG packets overflow that Warmane is using, but it's useless if you patched the memory region. It's also not patching the other overflow that you can do with Warden packet that Ascension was/is using. Nothing new was discovered recently.

i just donated $500, there is no way the server is going down. they changed the name from world of warcraft to project ascension. since they changed the name, its just not the same game so Dutch and the team are in the clear. Blizzard tbc servers are basically dead already, id never buy a sub to those punks anyways after they banned my ex wife (they are partly the reason for my divorce) besides i only play this game on average 6-8 hours a day. i have leveled every class to max level 3 times now.
