>>570580764>why does this have to be AI?This is how I feel literally every time I see an app or site integrate AI. I don't think I'm alone in seeing LLMs more as a fun novelty than a viable tool right? Even agentic stuff doesn't feel that useful compared to just letting people access symbolic AI tools themselves.Maybe it's just because the real good stuff is out of my price range or locked away by gubmint though. Man, I just want to go on adventures without writing a 2000 word preamble.

>>570584834It's definitely way overhyped, but there are uses for it. The math world has been grappling with the fact that AI has actually solved some open problems, and not just crunchy combinatorics problem that nobody had bothered to work through. It might not have the same kind of "ingenuity" to develop new theory, but it has the superpower of being able to draw on basically all existing theory, and so form connections between different fields that nobody had the requisite background knowledge to see.The nice thing about math and AI is (assuming you actually know what you're doing), it's pretty easy to see if it says something that's bullshit, and if you're really paranoid about subtle errors you can always try to formalize its arguments in a formal theorem prover. The bad part is you often are unsure where the results it's pulling together exactly came from, making it a nightmare for citation. There was a recent example where some guys posted an algebraic geometry article on arxiv claiming they used AI for proving some new bounds. But then the big dick guys in the field checked it out were like "this is common knowledge, and follows immediately from a result in Hartshorne (the standard algebraic geometry textbook)"

Can I get a rundown on Xialong with the new tag and genre thing? Is the output quality better? I was still using the [ S: 4 ] stuff.
In a setting where there's humans and anthro characters, what do you call the race of anthros? Beastkin? Beastfolk? Something specific based on the type of animal? Also, if you choose Beastkin, do you write it as one word or like Beast-kin
>>570733086beastkinbeastkin
>>570730008Using Tag and Genre just adds a block to your context exactly how manual attg worked. So you click random and get genre: slice of life, and tag: dungeon crawl? Look at your context window. It should have [ Tags: dungeon crawl; Genre: slice of life ] and a [ S: 4 ] automatically injected.>>570733086I use a species-chosen name and a human-derived one. So maybe my 'wolfkin' call themselves "Kith," and humans call them "wolfmen". Maybe they call humans "sealmen," or "furless," or something similarly blunt and self-chosen.
>>570733573>KithAs in https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/kith ? I like that, I think I might steal it
>>570733086In some of my prompts I went with "hybrids", but that's because there I did a budget Shadowrun thing where first there were no anthros and then suddenly, from one day to the next, some humans just turned into anthros.
>>570734034Yeh just calling each other cousin basically. Pack mentality. I try to look at how other races irl treat one another (eg how many languages call their in-group basically what amounts to 'people,' and how often we just assign a label to a country in our language that means nothing in theirs).
>>570733086If they're from an IP with canon terms for their anthros, I use those. In original scenarios where anthro presence is considered ordinary (or evolved alongside homonids), they wouldn't really be referred to as a separate species but by terms borrowed from their IRL suborder/family/genus (Felids, Canids, Avians, Bovids, Anguids, etc.)

>>570764249>falling into fat rabbit girl holes

Let me try to explain A/N for you guys. They have a bad reputation because they were very poorly implemented in past models. Basically it inserted whatever you wrote there three lines from the bottom of your story and parsed it as if it were part of your story's text. So it often caused the AI to shit itself.Xialong parses A/N entirely differently. It prefixes what you write with the <|system|> tag so it's like a pseudo system prompt that's appended on top of the default one that's hard-coded in place. So your A/N isn't directly injected into the text, instead you're talking to the AI and telling it what you want in your story like you're talking to a person. If you keep this in mind A/N works really well under Xialong, much better than any of NAI's previous models at the very least.

>It was Wusiji who first saw it—the potential that flickered beneath Terry's unremarkable surface like a candle struggling against a draft. Wusiji was a man of few teeth and even fewer explanations, but when he spoke, the world tended to listen, or at least tilted its head in vague acknowledgment. He had cornered Terry one afternoon while Terry was attempting to determine whether the green thing in his kitchen was food or a sentient life form that had somehow established tenancy."You have the Diathesis," Wusiji had declared, his eyes bright with a fervor that Terry found simultaneously exhausting and mildly concerning."The what?""The Diathesis. The predisposition. The... you know." Wusiji had waved his hands in a gesture that conveyed nothing and everything simultaneously. "Oujide saw it."Oujide. Wusiji's other personality. The one that emerged during particularly stressful Tuesday afternoons and spoke in languages that sounded like traffic accidents translated through a wind chime. Oujide had apparently witnessed something in Terry's soul that Wusiji deemed worthy of championship. Elf championship, specifically.Terry hadn't bothered asking what an Elf Champion did. In his experience, asking questions in this world only led to answers that raised more questions, which led to answers that made him miss the sweet, blissful ignorance of the drowning-mouse-is-a-camel days. Instead, he had simply thanked Wusiji and returned to his ongoing negotiation with the green kitchen tenant.

I pick it back up when I have inspiration for as long as it will carry me.But then again it's part of my autistic daydreaming universe that has been going on since I was a teenager so it's not really a conventional story with an end.
>>570834113Jealous.I wish I could see it that way. I managed to reach like 63 chapters and close one story, but the vast majority of my other ones sprint out the gate with fun or unique mechanics and premises, then hit a fat wall where I don't actually have a conflict or antagonist to work towards and I get bored. It's especially bad when I'm trying for some clever gimmick that winds up making my MC either invincible or worthless; no stakes beyond a sudden and immediate death, which means my story snowballs into high power level slop and I drop it.I can't get my head to accept unstructured SoL, there HAS to be a goal on the horizon or I tap out, but I hate planning and prepwork so my gens don't naturally feed me an overarching 3 act structure...

hey anons, i'm using marinara engine with deepseek v4.i'm getting refusals when i want to do some rape, on silly tavern this never happens.how do i set this up properly on marinara engine? where do i put the jailbreaks for example, and are there any presets?
>>570938545are they seriously cracking down on marinara now?
>>570939195i doubt it, it's far more likely to be some marinara settings that are there by default and i just don't know about. for sillytavern, it was very convenient, there are presets for all of the major LLMs and once you load them you just forget that refusals for sex stuff is even a thing. surely marinara has something too
>>570939732all right, i just copy pasted some of the ST instructions into the 'extra prompt' section and it's normal again.
I feel so annoyed that Marinara entered a code freeze the moment there were two issues that particularly affected me that got solved after the last release and now it's been a month.

>>571155715If Turk just got more memory, he'd be able to serve GLM 5.2 at the same price as GLM 4.6 without sacrificing profit margins.People think Deepseek models are insanely cheap and to a degree, their optimization is top-notch, but a good part of it is that Deepseek is just less greedy than everyone else. They themselves said their API pricing covers actual inference costs + the free web/app subsidizing + a small amount to ensure profit. So all three together amount to $0.435 per million input and $0.87 per million output tokens, not even counting caching which makes it even cheaper. You can see what a massive money-making machine proprietary SOTA AI models are. Every request to Claude 4.8 Opus or GPT 5.5 likely bills the user 10x the actual costs of serving the answer, just to fatten OpenAI and Anthropic's pockets. Because while they're almost certainly more expensive than V4 pro, there's no way they're anywhere near an order of magnitude more expensive.GLM.5.2 could be just as dirt cheap. There are good reasons it isn't: Z.ai is more starved for money, plus I've reads significant complaints about the reliability of their subscription plans, which suggests their infrastructure struggles to keep up with the demand, so pushing up prices is a rational response to tamp it down. But these reasons are primarily due to being an active competitor in the AI race. A smaller company focused on hosting rather than doing constant intensive training runs wouldn't have this pressure.Sadly, the memory is a real constraint. I'm not sure how NAI's switch to B200's alleviates this, but without information on the numbers, I'd guess not much.

>>571169036>Deepseek is just less greedy than everyone else.Their mileage is great. I incur heavy token usage upwards of 10m when testing prompts and scenarios, which ends up only costing half the $2 I put in. The other half is spent playing cards and scenarios as normal.>the memory is a real constraintYeah, at the end of the day, it's an issue of hardware plus cost and availability of said hardware. Service reliability too, with lots of non-local models being deprecated after a year or so.
>>571173178What kind of bloated crap are you inserting that requires so much context? Real authors have to actually not only write the entirety of their books but also keep track of various characters, places, events and factions. We have it easy here. If something falls out of context just make a note of it and bring it back up when appropriate in the story. The AI is already doing the heavy lifting.

I've been doing a very long story again to test how much context DS V4 Pro can really work with. Because we all know it won't actually work with 1 million token creative writing.I'm now at 285.642 tokens and see it beginning to break down. The replies become very formulaic and repetitive now. It still mostly comprehends the logic of what's happening on screen, makes references to previous ideas, and *thinks* about all the system prompt rules, but the writing quality is collapsing. I don't know if I'll continue that experiment much longer, but I guess 300k context might be the upper limit. Especially considering that Dipsy's prose never was the best to begin with.
>>571257905I wonder if GLM 5.2 is actually different. They claim they can do 1M context for real now, but I imagine a lot of models have already been claimed to be able to do that.
>>571257905Honestly, being able to do go anywhere over 200k without devolving into a drooling retard is impressive. Obviously we need to go higher, but it shows there's good, consistent progress in long-context handling.
>>571257905You unironcially don't need more than 32k. Anything more than that is context poisioning.
There was this one new half-vibecoded frontend, that was shilled around a bit last week at least on Reddit, and I can't find it and I'm losing my damn mindI distinctly remember it simulated and kept track of a "world" rather than a single character, and would have NPCs actually interact with each other and form memories of their interactions, as well as with the PC. >>571307904He was doing it way before you came along and whined about it, 'comrade'. And it was fine.
>>571308396Get a life, loser.
>>571308396He says, ignoring that multiple people have complained about it and continue to complain about it.
>>571308396His stuff doesn't belong here or else he wouldn't be banned. How do you explain this?
>>571308635You mean like your fake poll? Not even going to bother replying to your other sockpuppets.
>>571308760He only got banned because he posts with way too much frequency. If he, instead, included more than just the images, tried to get people involved in talking about it, or, you know, shared a prompt to go with it, I guarantee the mods wouldn't pop a hernia at his posts. But apparently it's a bad idea to want people to post storytelling in the storytelling thread.
Have fun arguing with yourself, angryanon. Not everyone you disagree with is the same person!

>>571370635I'm pretty sure that trigram thing doesn't really matter on a text that's short enough. Obviously something that very rarely only occurs in general texts is going to be "overrepresented" if it appears a single time in a short text. Realistically all it means is that that's a rare thing to have in text.
>Accessible ERP at my fingertips>Accessible mid quality image gen at my fingertips>I've done basically everything I can think of that would interest me so long ago I just stare at my screen feeling stupid as fuck>pay 25 USD for another month

>>571381991Start something longform. Get isekai'd somewhere and smell the roses. Think about what you'd do in a world like this one but Pokemon exist. Take the time to do the pillow talk with your waifu. Looks like voting for the NAI contest has started, so you can see what people have made for it:https://novelai.net/anniversary-2026/contest/image/galleryhttps://novelai.net/anniversary-2026/contest/text/galleryThe contrast between the number of image submissions and the number of text submissions is, uh, stark.
>>571390942I dont find it odd that the easier thing has more submissions than the harder thing.People gravitate toward putting in the least amount of effort for the most reward.
>>571391381Is it the easier thing? I spent like 45 minutes wrangling imagegen to get everything to look nice, especially the text, whereas I spent like 5 minutes writing a quick lead-in for the poem, let the AI gen about six times and liked the first result enough so I just took it.
>>571392054Have you looked at the entries?
>>571392054You at least had to write a lead in for the poem.It takes no effort to generate a "Masterpiece, high quality, 1girl, highly detailed" pinup and pick the best of the batch. Look towards the ones at the bottom and see basic generation defects where they didn't even bother to do that, plenty of fucked up details, a couple of them didn't even bother to get the 5 right.
>>571392330>>571393709I guess I valued my own effort too highly, because man, it was a pain in the ass getting everything close to right, and even then, I wasn't truly happy with it but figured if I tried any more, I'd end up starting over completely and tacking on another hour or something.

>>571174302I find it funny that the regulars on the thread would say this back when they had nothing else to eat. Now that you have 32, that's the more sensible option. If someone tried to make the case for the 1M tokens you can't have, you would say it's not desirable for some reason or other. Until you had access to it.I pity people like this so much. Especially IRL when you see how they keep themselves trapped in a pointless life out of pure cowardice.

How do you create characters with "depth"? I feel like it's something where I can tell if a character is flat, but I don't have the ability to articulate why

>>571484891Speaking of, conflict is something I often struggle with in stories, especially when it's interpersonal conflict in more domestic settings. It's actually an issue I have with a lot of works, not just my own. Maybe this is just due to my own personality and the people I interact with, but I feel like in my life conflict is often really subtle. In my mind, I'm not out here fighting in armed combat or anything, so my conflicts generally don't rise past mild annoyance at each other, and can often be resolved by a conversation. I know stories can elevate stuff for dramatic effect, and they certainly don't have to exactly mimic my boring ass life, but there's a lot of times in stories where I think "even somewhat rational adults would've resolved this in fifteen minutes". It seems like there's a fine line to make a conflict engaging while also keeping it believable.
