>SMG1 Released November 12, 2007 (NA) >SMG2 Released May 23, 2010 (NA)The remastered package of SMG1/2 got me thinking how fast a development turnaround there was between both games with only a roughly 2.5 year gap between them. That's pretty fast for how big SMG2 was, but also not really since was basically an asset flip expansion pack with a story mode.What I can't get over is that apparently all signs are pointing to Odyssey which released way back on October 27, 2017 getting the Sunshine orphan treatment instead with no follow-up like SMG2 which I find crazy. You'd think even if they moved the "A Team" of Nintendo EPD over to immediately begin work on Bananza once Odyssey 1 finished as was reported, they would have assigned a smaller team to reuse all of the assets (worlds, captures, enemies, bosses, etc.) to remix into a secondary installment which would have been a great way to save costs and generate guaranteed sales. The 4K update for it they put out for the Switch 2 back on June 5, 2025 further drives home how high-quality all of the original game set pieces are that probably aren't getting utilized in this form again. Even 3D World got Bowser's Fury & Wonder got Bellabel Park.

Fossils are also just purple coin equivalents. Both games also have heavy focuses on Pauline and New Donk City. It's Odyssey 2, in the same way that 3D World is 3D Land 2 and Sunshine is 64 2.
