Destiny 2 made enough money to sustain Bungie itself but not 2 support studios alongside it back in 2018-2019. Bungie bought their independence from Activision and were making enough money to sustain themselves but they decided to go full retard and waste resources on projects that were cancelled or outright failures like Marathon. When the money D2 was providing wasn't enough, they realised their massive fuck up and tried to sell themselves on a lie and Sony were stupid enough to fall for it. Destiny 2 kept selling worse each year due to Bungie constantly underdelivering and maintaining status quo, the game never evolved so people got bored and left. People were also sick of Bungie's bullshit especially the theft of content over the years. Marathon is just the icing on the shit cake that only saw the light of day because they could repurpose shit tons of D2 assets to shove it out the door most definitely at the order of Sony and it shows in the game how lazily it was put together.People realised how shit Marathon was the moment they played 30 minutes of the server slam and from then on it was a downhill disaster since.
