Mostly because FNAF fans have kind of just remade FNAF 1 over and over without any huge changes at this point. Like FNAF Plus was supposed to have a shitton of additions (just off the top of my head, it was supposed to have different mechanics for Freddy and Foxy, the Marionette, Mediocre Melodies, Golden Freddy and Helpy were supposed to be Custom Night characters, and it was supposed to have a roguelike game mode) that most ignore and just do a straight remake of the first game with little that's actually new.

I still think the idea of Dave growing up to be a furry would be funny, but I also think the bullying would have made him a chud, technically more eligible of a fazbear shareholder than Michael but still not a good option, Elizabeth will have to take up her father’s slack

See, with FNAF 4 it works because Nightmare Fredbear is actually central to the plot since he's the one who did the Bite of 87 and all that. Golden Freddy in 1 is intended to be an easter egg. He's not even the leader of the bunch, he's the on the side dicking around on his own by being weird and creepy.
If FNAF 1 needs a boss just make Freddy go apeshit. It's his fuckin' game, let him have that.

FNAF has grown past the stage where it evokes obsessive attachment. the older fans have other shit going on in their lives, and the younger fans didn't experience an internet saturated with a constant flow of fanworks.
and i think the quick releases of games in the early days did the fandom a lot of good in the long run. giving a fandom new things to talk about snaps them back to sanity. contrast that with the homestuck hiatuses or deltarune fans waiting 10 years for a bad game.
