There's been a very obvious push lately from some as of yet unknown entity to position PC decompliations as a replacement for Emulation. So now instead of an emulator having 400 issues, every individual game has 400 issues.
>>571358181I wanna say Dusklight's one of the better ones, though, and isn't some wanked out half-an-emulator. Needs 5.1 audio though, til then I'll just play the U version with FG if I really need '60' fps.

>>571365532Does it? No idea, haven't used any. Though I assume AI is predisposed to using certain styles, whatever is has been the trending norm in recent years. Though I am sure it can be influenced a lot by the user's prompts as well.

>>571410250Uh, no? Anyone who had the repo cloned would get a warning if there had been a force-push on the repo by the compromised account.
>>571406058It's personal. I know it sucks to receive a "non-answer", but that's how it really is. Besides the external input lag (caused by the controller, emulator, monitor, etc), there's also the internal input lag, tied to the game itself and existent even on real hardware plugged to a crt.So, for each game, you'd need to be acquainted with the original setup, then comparing with your emulated one, and personally checking when the external lag is too much to handle.Regardless, I'll give you some pointers: most people can't go lower than 200ms. That's around 12 frames of a 60hz screen (the average consumer crt). Really talented people stick to 120~150ms; that's 7 frames at minimum. Basically, a few frames of external input lag (like from 1 to 3) won't kill you, as long as they're *consistent* (i.e.: always the same amount of latency), so you can properly adjust your timing.Even so, about input lag, less is always better. There's no big issue with a 2-frame setup, but 1 or 0-frame will feel more responsive. In other words, try to lower youe latency, though you don't need to be crazy about it.
>>571421778I'm retarded, is that big red exclamation point something I should be scared of or is it safe?

>>571435738>>571439872maybe it'd fit under "Others" or "Launcher mods"the tool was primarily designed to build a retro library and export it to these various launchers out there, so in that sense it's a launcher mod, but it has expanded significantly since then.the fact it can be used as a launcher by itself is a bit extra.

>>571406058Everyone is different, i can notice 1 or 2 frames in games i am really really familiar with. But some people can't even notice 5 frames. But i'll tell you this - even if you can't consciously notice input lag, your brain will notice it, and games will feel harder than they should.Another thing is the type of game you're playing. If you're playing a turn based RPG it won't matter much. But if you're playing a shmup or a platformer that requires precision (like mario 3 or gimmick), then you'll want it to be as responsive as possible.
whats the best way to install retroarch on linuxflatpak or appimage?or distro package for the ones that have it?
>>571452108As of now: AppImage. It's smaller, makes better use of system resources and doesn't need any outside configuration.Flatpak isn't bad, but it's not configured properly, the user needs to enable some paths and resources outside the sandbox. Also, it tends to accumulate bloat, as some downloadable content (like shaders) tend to exist both in your system and home folders. This is not flatpak's fault, it's on the packaging. Please, someone correct me if things have gotten better on that front.Distro packages are better avoided. Most distros don't comply with RetroArch downloading content live content on the user PC (basic security concern), so they gimp that feature. The result is an app not working as it should, requiring workarounds and yet dealing with outdated content.
>>571454245thanks broim gonna go with appimage nightly
>>571454717You're welcome, brother. If you fancy it, there's a flatpak app called "Gear Lever", it's an AppImage manager, should help you to better integrate and handle those apps. It's entirely optional though, and you can do everything manually if you wish.

There's even a WinXP fork, but it might not work as well. There are Aureal wrappers too.
I know AMD only does it to serve their own corporate ends, but I'm glad they've stuck a knife in Nvidia's eye to our benefit with open RT, upscaling, and VRR standards.
Since we are talking about this: are only old PC games subject to running too fast on much better hardware? Current games are exempt of this, so they'll run the same even on 30-year later hardware?
>>571528123>currentThere are ones that will vsync at the wrong speed if you use a >60 refresh rate. Like if you launch a game in a 120hz mode you might see it run double-speed. You have to apply a frame limiter in those cases, or run them at that refresh rate and lose the VRR latency reduction. Otherwise, no, not really. That's more of a DOS-to-Win9x thing but there are exceptions (that I can't think of at the moment) and frame limiting is all you need for modern games. There are lots of engines that just act strange if you uncap and run them at ridiculous framerates, but that's game-by-game and engine-by-engine. PCgamingwiki is a good resource on this.
>>571528123In theory probably yes because newer games are programmed to use delta-time and not rely on the vertical refresh rate or cpu clockspeed. But im sure if we would one day get 100 Gigahertz CPUs, that things would break regardless somehow.if indians get blasted off this earth and we reach hyperborea in 500 years, we might be using AVX512 wrappers and qemu will be running a 9800X3D or something
crt-yah looks pretty decent considering that my monitor is only 1080p. i imagine that someone who knows how to tweak shader can get even better results tho since it has a trillion parameters
>ReShadeSUCKS.jpg, at least for CRT shit. It's so much more laborious than sharts which does all the scaling math for you, and ShaderGlass which is just a lot better of a UX when it comes to configuration. SG adds a little lag, though. I'm only bothering with ReShade for that reason. It just takes so much more fucking-with to get it looking half as good as RetroArch or ShaderGlass, but I don't think it adds lag.

I'm sorry I left /emugen/.>PC game devs:"Nah we're not going to fix our shit. YOU fix it for us"
>>571547552Yep, I was there, man.
>>571549447you also only have 2 earholes, so 2 speakers are perfectly capable of outputting true surround sound
>>571549070If i have only a stereo headphone plugged in, into a single 3.5mm audio jack.how do i get proper surround sound from these emulators?
>>571482931Gotta take me out to dinner first~ ;3
>>571552020You need an HRTF algo, it's built in on Windows using windows sonic or pay up for Dolby Atmos for headphone if you want the best of the best. But it's not really the same as a real set up and you need legit headphones with actually good imaging and soundstage, not $20 slop for browns.Even then I'd rather get proper speakers but my room is shaped weirdly..
>>571553943I got Audio Technica AD900X, pretty good soundstage.so all i have to do is enable surround in the emulator audio settings.Enable spatial sound Windows Sonic for Headphones in the Windows audio settings, and im done?
what the fuck do you mean 2 more times? im fucking crouching 999999 billion times and this fucking warning doesnt fucking move
>>571554238For Dolphin, you need to switch the DSP emulation to LLE so you can use the Dolby Prologic II emulation and so the surround. For PCSX2 it's simple, it's the expansion option in the audio settings.
>>571554238Yeah it will take care of surround signal at least way better than just raw surround signals that aren't downmixed to stereo, and it's supposed to be better than simple stereo downmix. Which mean you gotta allow the proper surround signals to pass through. And I'm not sure if emulators can do that properly. I'm also not sure if sonic supports prologic.>Audio Technicaextremely based
fuck retroarch
dude this vita emulator is actually working omg, 7th gen emulation is working, ps4 emulation is "working", this really is the future
>>571557701>7th gen emulation is workingIKR? Not sure if it was because the latest SteamOS updated defaulted desktop mode to Wayland or what, but Xenia Edge is a lot less stuttery on my Deck now.
So how is emulation on the PSP these days?Been playing through romhacks on a GBA emulation styled handheld but nothing was as comfy as my old PSP. Last I tried it was just a soft hack and seeing that it can be made permanent now I'm curious how well that has improved. Last I played even on SNES the sound was way off and terrible (but hell in the 2000s it working at all was amazing). Have a Vita as well and could go that route, but it weighing as much as cinderblock for the sake of having two touch panels instead of having a real L2/R2 was biggest design failure and still annoys me despite so much else of it being good, that and I didn't find its emulation much better than the PSP at the time I tried it. But its been years. So hell hows the Vita these days as well?
>>571557701It's bad but we still need it. If you don't understand why you're simply not smart enough.
>>571558528psp emulation has always been perfect for me, first time i tried it was in 2014 or smt
