Fine adjustment can be done by strafing, which you do on M&K anyway. The only real issue is that weapon specials are mapped to the right thumbstick click, which is horrific, and marking is hindered by having to use a radial menu, though context marking remains button press only. There's really nothing seriously wrong with the gamepad controls, they're as good as they can be, console players suck because they're sitting 10 feet away from the screen on maximum FOV and can't make anything out that isn't right in front of them and they're usually casual dudebro gamers and kids anyway.

Kataphrons once used to be extremely hard to shift in melee due to their low cost, statline, and capacity to be buffed fairly cheaply. Their melee stat wasn't good but the stat line on the weapon was frustratingly good which meant they could survive for surprisingly long against many melee focused armies before being overwhelmed and able to inflict at least a good number of casualties due to weight of dice. I haven't played in several years, but there was a very long period where Kataphron breachers were our best unit. Chickens in second place because Chickens aren't infantry and they caught a minor nerf to their las cannons. AdMech as an army unfortunately tends to be pretty boring most editions because we have not very many units, and many we do have are just bad. God I hate GW, love from America.
