I started playing the Ace Combat series recently, in release order. The first game was ugly but fun, and every game so far has been better than the last. It's been a great series so far! I finished 5 recently, and just started on Zero. I'm hoping to get caught up before 8 comes out. But, how necessary is it to play 6, really? I hear that it's pretty different from the rest, and I dunno if I want to bother with digging out and setting up my old xbox 360 just to play this one game, though the game itself is only $10 at a local game store. Should I just skip it and move straight onto 7 after I finish Zero?

>>571534352Both emulation and the recompilation of 6 are playable enough, albeit both have some minor issues of their own, so that's an option. But if you found a copy for that cheap I'd personally snap it up in a heartbeat and I don't even have an Xbox. I played the recomp and I really enjoyed it, it's such a well made game and it's a real shame it was a 360 exclusive because I think it would have sold gangbusters if it had been multiplat.

>>571534352Nah 6 is worth it, you might be mixing it up with Assault Horizon, which was a pretty terrible spinoff that was also available on the 360. The only negatives of 6 are a cheesy cutscene story (even by AC standards) and a relatively limited aircraft roster. The gameplay and missions are great, including by far the largest-scale battles in the whole series.The only reason I’d suggest skipping 6 is because emulating it on PC is a janky pain in the ass - if you actually have a 360 it’s totally worth $10.

>>571536293Fun mostly. Their AI seems to be pretty good at killing things and the ESM isn't that useful for A2G missions in comparison to A2A. Since there's 4 Hornets on the roster I'm personally gonna make their 'canon' flight makeup be one of each.
