The special weapon in 9 is very powerful and well rounded but I think it's a bit boring in other ways, Laser Trident for example pretty much replaces your buster for most of the game because its straight range, high damage, piercing ability and fire rate being extremely high. Hornet Chaser is a weapon that can pick up items for Megaman but differently from Magic Card it's completely automatic and there's no design around it as result. The fortress is a big medley of stage gimmicks which I personally I'm not a big fan

>>571806595Both 9 and 11 tried to create a weapon set that basically doesn't havy any weaknesses. I think the shield weapon in both games are the best example of that. Leaf Shield is a shield weapon that basically consumes very little weapon energy because it doesn't fade away after killing weak enemies but you remain static and have to throw it away to start moving. The shield weapons that came after like Skull Barrier /Star Crash/Plant Barrier allow Megaman to move but don't have all defensive utility of Leaf Shield because they fade away after taking a hit. Jewel Satellite has both the defense of Leaf Shield and the ability to move from later shields to it's an extremely unexpensive and powerful shield to use at all times. Acid Barrier is another shield that doesn't fade away immediately if you use it with Power Gear (you would never use it without Power Gear) and still has full offensive abilities while Megaman is wearing the shield so there's no cost opportunity from just spamming the shield and moving alongside the stage unless you want to use other OP weapons.
