It's sad that RE turned from survival horror with limited resources to action game wit unlimited ammo and really hot chicks.
Oh hey, that's a DeLorean. Neat.
Our honest thoughts on iLL? Can it live up to the hype at this point?

>>572110478Hi there. I've added all the games you've suggested to the promising demo's section under Survival horror - Indie homage/revival.I don't give out full entries to games that are demos since I view it as too early to judge their quality.
>>572107548I want it to be good but I’m still cautious. 2027 feels like a really optimistic projection for all that they’re trying to attempt. Would be surprised if they didn’t delay it.

>>572113842did you figure out the crafting system yet? freezing rounds are nemesis' weakness
>>572115163You either get more of the default rounds or get to craft special ammo for the handgun or the shotgun. I like the western shotgun. The special ammo for the upgraded shotgun is fun, too.

>>572107548Will probably be a serviceable enough game, but the fact that you can’t really tell what’s scripted so far and what isn’t leads me to movie game concerns
>>572121382Sure, but because of the randomness, it can take a while. There was one point in RER4 in the island's beginning where I had almost no ammo for any of my guns (Only really had the bullets within each gun, no extra bullets IIRC), and I was barely scraping by because the game absolutely refused to give me any until a while later. I detest this system so much for creating situations like that, and it's not really my fault because the game's RNG just randomly was against me.

im liking re9 a lot so far. nice gunplay. an upgrade from re8. your shots have more impact on the enemies, more ragdoll etc. its a lot like re2r, not only the shooting but everything, map design, atmosphere, puzzles, inventory, movement (on grace) is very similar to re2r, the big monsters that chase you around are similar to mr. x. i like re2r a lot so i like this. also i noticed the regular enemies have a lot of erratic movement/attacks that make them less predictable, i dont think the enemies in previous titles were quite like this. i like it. the shadow ghost monster in the beginning wasnt particularly scary but the big fat elephant pig humanoid creature is scary. the jumpscare when it showed up really got me. very cool design how it moves around the building, squeezing through the hallways.

RE3 finished. The easiest way to describe it for me would be "Mega Man 3 to RE2's Mega Man 2". RE2 was obviously a difficult act to follow, so they decided not to reinvent the wheel too much, and made a direct sequel with a few small upgrades, like a dodge move (that's a bit glitchy) and a 180-degree turn. The crafting system is also neat, but I don't really like crafting systems in general. Everything else plays, feels, and looks just like RE2, which is definitely a good thing. The structure is a bit funny this time - you explore not a large interconnected map, but a series of small maps that aren't too connected to each other. I guess doing a third big gothic mansion would've been too much, although the clock tower kinda scratches that itch. The story is nothing to write home about - Jill is still in Racoon City for some reason (I thought she was overseas with Chris, but no), so she tries to get away, and does so largely without any drama, save for a band of nondescript gun dudes and, obviously, Nemesis. Nemesis is fun - when I first saw him fucking dash after your ass with a goddamn rocket launcher, I laughed out loud, Capcom wasn't fucking around. The gameplay is fun - zombies now feel more aggressive than ever, you have a lot of ammo options, and in general, this game is pretty damn action-packed. The Mercenaries mode is neat, it's an evolution of the 4th Survivor mode from RE2, but it's not trying to bust your balls anymore. It's kinda funny how Raccoon City has just as many fucking puzzles as the old mansions had. Big props to the mayor for installing a giant gem-encrusted disc that opens the front gate to the city hall. I'm sure that looked great on the budget proposal.Overall, my favorite of the three is still RE2. I would say RE1 and RE3 are roughly equal; they just have their own strengths and weaknesses, so I can't really put one above the other.Next up, Resident Evil Survivor.
>>572138298i've been going through some ps1 horror, playing ....iru! now.it's interesting, has a certain charm despite how clumsy a lot of it is. the whole environment being 3d is notable, and still looks pretty nice since they knew how to work within the limitations well (square nondescript school hallways don't demand a lot of geometry) but having to actually walk from location to location and remember your way around definitely gets grating compared to if it was set up in a more traditional point & click or clocktower-esque way. it also probably contributed to them going with a very simple and stylized look for the characters too, which was definitely the right move imo. the story being a total lovecraft kitchen sink is surprisingly amusing too, adds to the pulpy/manga/whatever impression of the art when you have a shoggoth on the stairs and a random deep one wandering around. maybe im projecting but it feels like something that was heavily inspired by coc campaigns with that aspect, the confined setting and how the web of characters with simple traits isspecial shout out to the translation team for editing the textures of signs too>>572140325gonna try for the whole guncon setup, or just a controller?

What is Leon's bush like in RE2, RE4, and RE9?
I decided to play RE4r on standard difficulty, after 2 months of original RE4. I was maxed out on adaptive difficulty from my previous save and faced the double garradors and then verdugo. It did not go well at all. I avoided using any special weapons just the m1903 blacktail and skull shaker plus primal knife. All fully upgraded. It was really humbling to play the remake again, it’s so different from the original RE4. I was really slow and quickly burned through 10 g+r combos. Rusty as shit and disappointed in myself.

Finished Survivor.Man, what a game. I'm not a huge light gun buff, I only played some House of the Dead, Virtua Cop, and Time Crisis, but I get how the genre works, and what they tried to do here is fucking zany. You get to control the main character (which is surprising enough), and it's pretty clear that they actually tried to inject some of that RE DNA into the game despite the genre. You walk around, collect keycards, there's a rocket launcher with its ammo variants, herbs, etc. Making all of that work with the GunCon (literally just two buttons, not counting the trigger) is insane. And it would all work somehow, if it weren't for the insane amount of jank. The enemies here are very slow, literally nothing can outrun the protagonist, so if you don't wanna fight, you can run past almost everything. And since this game is mostly linear, it's a legit strategy. Enemies also can't hit you on the back (the camera has to turn towards them), so if you don't wanna get hit, you just... look away. Combined with the insane running speed, every boss fight turns into "run here, shoot, run there, shoot, repeat".But what elevates this janky shootan to absolute cinema for me is its story. It's The Room of Resident Evil games. The game is so damn badly written, awfully directed, and terribly voice-acted that nothing can be taken seriously. The fucking "Vincent, it's your mother" voice message, spoken in the most stereotypical grandma voice imaginable, telling the big bad who tortures little children for fun to stop doing bad things and go home already had me gasping for air for a few minutes straight. And everything in this game is like that. Even the diaries are a hoot. It's like some 12-year-old's bad Resident Evil fanfic, played 100% straight, voice-acted by the professional English teachers from Japan, and turned into a video game Capcom somehow signed off on.Again, what a fucking game. A great final note for the PS1 era.Anyway, next up - Code Veronica.
>>572235778Isn't fut or smth slang for cunt? Swarzvalid or so? Other than that she certainly looks like a German. This reminds me how Sega was proud of Dreamcast being able to show true transparency. That's the reason why Chaos, a huge water monster, was the main villain in Sonic Adventure.I'm really not feeling the location so far. This is so bland compared to the previous games. Wasn't this what Mikami hated so much about RE1.5 that he rebooted the entire game?
>>572316616>her nose makes her unbearably uglyElbows too pointy ahh comment. Nose is one of the best parts.
Will Capcom forget about Grace now after Requiem?
Man, not gonna lie, Code Veronica is kinda rough. I can tell these visuals were absolutely top-notch at the time, it absolutely styles on every game from that year (like Deus Ex, for example), and even the Dreamcast as a whole. But it also definitely looks like the awkward half-step between the highly polished pre-rendered backgrounds of the PS1 era and the rich 3D of the PS2 era. It feels very flat and empty compared to the previous games. Claire's animations are just a tad weird and janky. Some of the gameplay mechanics did not transition well to the new hardware - aiming is kinda weird, and movement is kinda floaty. Bow gun is a hilariously terrible weapon too, far worse than it was in RE2.I'm only a couple of hours in, but it refuses to click with me so far.
>>572344992my biggest problem with it was the player movement yeah, enemies are crazy fast but you're stuck with ps1 era tank controls so it's easy to get stunlocked to death by some enemies, specially because you can't see them thanks to the fixed camera angles.
One neat thing I noticed is how these cutscenes were clearly the same tech Capcom would go on to refine in their PS2 games. It's the same mocap, the same camera angles, and overall the same vibe. It's definitely miles ahead of anything they had in the PS1 games, especially for in-engine cutscenes.
Man, fuck the bats in this game. Claire can't autoaim at them, and aiming regularly doesn't work, they fly at an angle that your high shots don't reach. Your only hope is for them to fly to your eye level, but they almost never do. Meanwhile, they do more damage than normal zombies.

Damn, he was so pissed off at Chris for laughing at his ebin monologue in the first game that he came back from the dead.
>>572361418I think CVX might actually be the worst mainline RE game, worse than 0, because its story is somehow even dumber and nonsensical and steave is an annoying cuntif they replace him with a 12 year old girl instead of being a standin for a 12 year old girl in the remake, that'd be cooler
>>572359102How many years have you been posting this now? Lol
>>572362294I dunno, but I'm honestly close to dropping it at this point. The biggest issue with this game is that it's really. Fucking. Slow. When the door opening animations get tiresome, they throw you unique ones that are literally twice as long. Stairs are once again an obstacle, right after they stopped being one in RE3. There's TONS of backtracking; this game legitimately sends you running all over the goddamn place, and the amount of maps that are just long empty hallways is ridiculous. The enemies are also all annoying as hell - zombies are faster than ever, there are dudes with stretchy arms that can grab you literally from any distance, I already mentioned the bats, etc., and all of them respawn, of course. I wanna like this game - it looks neat, the music is cool, the story is intriguing, I haven't even seen Chris yet, but fuck me, everything related to its gameplay aged like absolute milk. Even RE1 was a better-paced, more pleasant experience. It feels like Capcom really ran out of ideas with classic RE games at that point, which is why RE4 was in all kinds of dev hell, and ended up transforming into an entirely different thing. I'll keep going for now, but I think I'll punch in the Easy Mode code. Not Very Easy, I don't want journalist mode, just something to take off the edge. Also, Steve is a scourge and needs to be killed immediately. Good lord.
>>572365181ya ain't gonna make it it through an RE spinoff binge if CV is already the breaking point.
>>572369396It's easy to have fun with bad games, especially those that are broken in interesting ways. It's much harder to enjoy boring but otherwise competent games. CV is like that. And maybe part of that is the fact that I marathoned the previous games (especially RE2), so I'm getting burned out on this gameplay style. I'm left with only the remake of 1 (which should be simple; I have that mansion memorized) and Zero (no idea what to expect). CV feels like a hurdle to overcome at this point, which feels unfair to it.
>>572370953>bad games, especially those that are broken in interesting waysWhat would be an example of a game like this, something like fear 3?
>>572372495Usually, it's a game that legitimately tries to do something interesting and fails spectacularly. RE Survivor is a good example - it's a shitty game no matter how you slice it, incompetent and broken. But if you take it at face value, not only do you get to enjoy a real schizo narrative that I doubt will be surpassed in sheer gruesomeness by any RE game, but also a fascinating attempt at making a first-person RE game that works with a single light gun. There was some earnest failed effort.
>>572374848What's broken about it? I only dabbled with it a bit and it seemed fine, just dull gameplay-wise.
>>572362294Gameplay wise maybe but the story is fun and cool >>572372495Fear 3 was fun and a competent shooter, it just wasn’t what people wanted from a Fear game
>>572375858A good example is hit detection. Any time you're not looking at an enemy, they can't hit you at all.
>>572377845Oh I thought you meant like buggy or nonfunctional on a system level.
>>572365181>Stairs are once again an obstacle, right after they stopped being one in RE3.part of the games both being in development at the same time, rather than building off of the former. code veronica came out just 4 months later.

Do all resident evil games just have shit endings? I've played 1, 2 remake, 4, 7 and so far every game has started really strong and completely shit itself towards the ending, just turning into a fucking industrial lab or something. I guess actually 2 remake wasn't that bad but yea.
>>572389898creepy place, then smaller creepy place, then lab is the classic RE structure and endings are usually super simple, the survivor(s) being tramsported by a chopper and then maybe a hint into the next game, funnily enough 6 didn't really do that and no one likes it
>>572389898ive noticed resident evil games are really good at the beginning, then fall off a little bit. still good doe.also, re8 ending is absolute cinema
>>572389898Yeah it's a problem pattern that they mostly end in samey grey laboratory areas. I don't think it ruins them but it's not a good feature.
>>572391837nta but i'm pretty sure it's a omage to action movies like terminator, you know, with all the "lure bad guy to a hazardous environment, then kill it with industrial equipment". japan was full of admiration for american cinema back in the day, even Silent Hill had Jacob's Ladder and David Lynch as inspiration
>>572389898i wouldn't say shit but they usually have their most interesting (visual and gameplay) areas earlier on.honestly pe2 was the only one where i felt like the lab + ark were as cool as the earlier locations (though the ending still falls apart for other reasons...)

I also just beat resident evil 1 recently and the game basically ends in a boring cold steel lab with the "tyrant" who goes down in like 3 grenades and you walk out to a room and leave anticlimactically on a helipad. >>572415609Claire butt spotted
>>572389898The ones I did so far didn't. In the first game, the existence of Umbrella itself is a twist - the mansion is billed as a haunted house, so you'd assume the zombies are supernatural, before learning that it was a virus outbreak. So then being able to descend into the lab that started it is pretty dope. The second game does the same plot beat, but this time, you get to see some people behind the disaster - there's Annette, a completely deranged lost cause, and Ada, who hints at something larger going on. Then it ends in a nice cinematic showdown with lots of explosions.RE3 doesn't do the same thing - you still kinda end up in a lab, but it's more of an abandoned plant, and you're there to have a showdown with Nemesis that's straight out of The Terminator. These were all plenty satisfying.

>>572450996I assume you're talking about Nosferatu in CVX but you can kill him with a knife. It takes practice to get the pattern down but its a MUCH easier knife/boss kill that 95% of all of the other ones in the franchise and literally one hour of deaths is enough for the average player to learn it. The benefit of the sniper is that you're outside of his poison range which can affect gameplay in the next section.

Finished Code: Veronica. The idea of games aging badly was always a complicated topic for me. Often, I would hear people say stuff like "DOOM aged badly because tons of other FPS games evolved the idea and did more interesting things", or stuff like that. But in my opinion, that's not how it works. Something like Half-Life or Halo building upon its foundation didn't make DOOM worse by any means. As long as you're willing to take it at face value and play by its rules (instead of expecting something that it's not), DOOM is still an incredibly fun game. And it still looks really damn good too, hence why so many indie boomer shooters ape its aesthetics shamelessly. The same applies to early RE games - as long as you're not being a bitch about tank controls, these games are insanely well-made, atmospheric, and still very fun.But sometimes I stumble upon a game like CV. This game was groundbreaking at the time, obviously. These visuals were insanely impressive, and everything else was comparatively well-made. But it aged like crap. Why is that? I think it's because nothing about the game was timeless. The visuals were impressive, but the art design was ass. The gameplay only ended up suffering from this transition to full 3D, making tank controls feel obsolete without a static camera, and breaking a lot of fine-tuning from the PS1 games. The story is campier than any RE game before it; it feels almost like a parody. The cutscenes look janky and overacted, reminding me of MGS: The Twin Snakes. This game wasn't trying to be artful, it was showing off new tech first and foremost. And tech, unlike art, does age. So, I was not impressed at all. I was bored, frustrated, amused a few times, annoyed way more often, and left feeling like I wasted 14 hours of my life on a very mediocre game. Out of everything I played so far, this is definitely the game that demands an actual remake.I also tried Survivor 2, but it's nothing interesting. Now, moving on to Resident Evil Gaiden.
Did your horror heroine master the blade?
>>572450996>they don't give you the sniper rifleAnon, the game made a point to make an unskippable mini scene to show you where the rifle was, all but directly telling you the rifle is there to be picked. Finally playing RE 6. The inventory management is awful, no files, the game barely encourages you to explore the scenarios. I can see why people hate it. But then again it was cool to return to urban settings and your companion isn't as annoying as Sheeva, and Deborah touched herself before her boss battle. Fuck that underwater and piloting segments though. Game should be more fun during a replay once you get the infinite magnum for Leon and the infinite assault rifle for Chris and HIS BOYFRIEND.
>>572551910I honestly thought 6 wasn’t that bad of a game. It’s just not a resident evil game. I enjoyed Leon and his tomboy tag-along the most. Jake and Sherry was cool too. Disliked all the non foot traversal sections like motorcycles cars and airplanes. Cutscenes were forgettable and so were the bosses. It was worth 5 bucks and not a penny more. First playthrough was easier than 5 which in turn was easier than 4. For both weaker fights in 5 I needed to look at a guide though.
>>572551910>no filesThe game does have files. They're contained in the Family emblems you find around to shoot, then you can only read the files by going back to the main menu and searching for them for some god forsaken reason. And to make it even worse they read like a wiki article. And to make it even worse, the files have longer versions that you can only access if your account is connected to RE.net or something like that. RE6 has by far the worst file system in this series.

Leon and Helena with a flip option for second playthrough including a small Ada section for both. Then a dlc for Jake and Sherry.Chris and Piers should be the third dlc for 5 remake. Or just make it two and cut out the black dude and Jill escaping. It has all the same energy of a washed up has been Caucasian female singer getting paired up with a black rapper because her ratings started to suck. Sorry Jill.
>>572556780First one I was stuck for 45 minutes. Mainly because I couldn’t press the qte buttons fast enough on Jill. Second one I would loose almost every qte and didn’t realize there were light switches in the hangar area. Once we got to the volcano wesker was a snail because I was down to rank 0 on easy mode, got the volcano first try. I also didn’t have a single heal on the second wesker section. As soon as Sheva or I picked up one on the ground we would heal, game jumped a rank and wesker took our health back to red immediately. It was embarrassing.

I guess the final plot twist is that Leon's a B.O.W.?Anyway, Gaiden finished. At first, this game makes a really solid impression. The visuals are surprisingly nice, the battle screen is impressive, and the actual combat is really good at replicating the rhythm of previous RE games. It all seems like it's gonna be a solid portable RE game. But then it falls apart once you realize just how limited and repetitive the game is. There are only three types of enemies - zombies, zombies with weapons, and poisonous female zombies. That's all. All of them also fight the exact same way. There's also a boss monster that shows up a few times, but mechanically, it's not different from the zombies. You have different weapons, but all of them work and look the same exact way - all weapons are clones of the pistol, outside the damage values. Even the automatic rifle is not automatic. Hell, even the fucking rocket launcher takes THREE shots to take out a basic zombie. So the entire game is practically just one enemy (a zombie and variations thereof) and one weapon (a pistol and variations thereof). It gets insanely repetitive, especially later on, when encounters become unavoidable and numerous, throwing up to 5 zombies in a single battle. The setting, in my opinion, is genius. A cruise ship is a perfect setting for a horror game - the protagonist is locked up in a believably limited, claustrophobic area with no escape, you can make it as big and varied as you want, and there's a constant threat from both the enemies and the fragile vessel. It's on par with the traditional haunted houses and space stations, and I'm surprised that horror games don't use it more often. Unfortunately, here, it's not used in any interesting manner. It's just a building with four floors, and that's about it.The game is mercifully short, but still annoying to play, due to the sheer repetitiveness.Anyway, the Resident Evil 1 remake next. But before that, I'll check out the movie.

Watched the movie. It really felt like they took the script about an evil corporation and a rogue AI off the shelf, went "Eh, close enough", and reformatted it into a Resident Evil movie by adding zombies. Still, it's incredibly shlocky, but entertaining, in a very grindhouse kind of way, since most of it is just gratuitous violence and scenes of Milla Jovovich not leaving anything to the imagination.Insane to think that Capcom rejected a script by George fucking Romero, which was a direct adaptation of the first game too. It's definitely up there with the more retarded decisions the company ever made.
Holy hell, this is juicy. After Code fucking Veronica, I feel like I'm looking twenty years into the future.Speaking of, whose blood is near the fireplace? It's not Kenneth, because there's no trail of it going to him, it's just a random pool of blood. Mechanically speaking, they just needed a reason to separate Barry from Jill for the cutscene, but it does look kinda unnatural when you think about it.

I know how they could easily fix CV's story in the remake. Remove Steve entirely (because his existence is superfluous), and focus on the dualism between the Redfields and the Ashfords. Remove Alfred's crossdressing twist (because it makes zero sense, he shouldn't lose his mind over his sister like that if he knows she's alive anyway), and instead play up his almost incestuous obsession with her. Make him actually competent instead of buffoonish, an antagonist for Claire to mirror Alexia and Chris.

>>572709021Re0, idk, I beat it. Is it the worst? Maybe. Don't remember that much. Which obviously is indicative.
I really don't like the corpse burning mechanic. Alongside the broken door, it's just pure, unadulterated padding. It's not an option to not do it in early game because you'll be rekt by the red zombies otherwise, so every zombie encounter where a headshot doesn't happen turns into a long-winded run to the nearest magic box and back, because losing two entire inventory slots is not an option either. Was Capcom afraid RE1 would be seen as too short? That game was paced perfectly precisely because knowing the layout made it possible to run through the game almost completely naked.
>>572710397the game basically was made with scraps and duct tape, of course it's not remarkable yet it still gets it's defenders like 6, every game in this franchise gets protectors as long as it's old
>>572717297the crimsom heads are not a problem if you just clean locations that you will frequent and if you get the shotgun quickly you can just behead them so they'll never rise up again. Also, Wesker senpai will fix the door for you and will leave some ammo in the save room, that's how much he hates you.

>>572823090Nothing, it's just a 2-second-long black screen because that's what the game needs to actually load the room.I get the idea of the door transitions. They were a neat feature, but they served a purpose - to hide actual loading screens with a suspensful visual (that was borrowed from Sweet Home). So they didn't waste your time, you would've been waiting for it to load anyway. But by the time we got to CV, they became unnecessary, and in the REmake, it's just an obvious waste of time. There's no reason to sit for 7 seconds at every door. It's not THAT suspenseful, and when you backtrack, it becomes downright annoying.
>>572823370Expensive cars are like expensive jewelry - they exist to be appreciated mostly from the outside. RE1 remake finished. Not gonna do Chris' campaign for now, maybe later.Truly, this was a superb send-off for the classic era of Resident Evil. As a remake, this was a surprisingly intelligent game. They didn't just take the original and make it different, or do it again with better graphics - the whole thing exists to respond to the original. Mostly in cheeky ways, but also addressing some of the design choices, like improving puzzle design. Despite still being very recognizable, the mansion felt fresh and large, and the story is obviously better. The visuals are, of course, the highlight. This 2002 console game absolutely shits on something like Doom 3, which came out 2 years later, during a time when technology was innovating at an insane pace. What they did with the locations and lighting is stunning. Sure, the game looks very different from the original. The mansion is ostensibly an entirely different place with an entirely different vibe - creepy and dilapidated became fabulous and cinematic; colorful became mostly monochrome. It's hard to say which one's better, they're going for different things and succeed in their own ways. One can be said for sure - Capcom truly mastered the pre-rendered backgrounds. The new control scheme works great, although the enemies were definitely not designed for it, so I ended up running literal circles around the bosses, and the movement would sometimes get jerky during screen transitions. This tech would definitely be refined further in Devil May Cry games. My only complaint would probably be the music. I don't know why, but it wasn't as noticeable and atmospheric as in the original. Most of the game was silent, in fact.Overall, it managed to live up to the hype. A truly great experience that's worthy of the first three games. It's honestly funny how dopey and retarded Code Veronica looks in comparison to this game, despite releasing a year apart.Next up, Resident Evil Zero.
>>572856702>Resident Evil 0Its my second favorite, I have 100%-ed it on GameCube, 360 and PC. It gets a bunch of shit (some of it deserved) but its a solid game IMO. sh2 remake is making my pc smell like warm plastic for some reason
OG RE3 is such a slog to get through. Granted, the environments are really, really cool. But I really want to finish it so I can play my other games I bought.
This game actually looks even better than the remake. So nice and sharp. I looked it up, and sure enough, Capcom managed to find the source models and re-rendered the backgrounds for this release, unlike the previous game, where they were simply upscaled. It's interesting how, at this point, Resident Evil found its style in these almost comically elaborate setpieces, which started from RE2, but really got set in stone now. Nothing in this universe ever looks like itself - it always looks like a grand, exaggerated version of itself. This fits very nicely with the gameplay - in what other world would you find such insanely elaborate puzzles behind every door, and people doing everything in the most roundabout way possible? Of course those who put gem-encrusted puzzle wheels in front of the city gate and build super secret bioweapon research facilities under booby-trapped escape room mansions would build a train that looks like a steampunk fantasy version of a train in 1998.But man, I fucking love this style. Shit looks cool as fuck.

The whole idea of this in Alone in the Dark and Sweet Home was to find small places in the house that you can turn into your base, stuffing everything there, and returning there every time. So then why was Rebecca in RE1 so helpless, if she actually went through RE1 of her own right before that? >>572960208>as the remakes don't change muchLmao. They change the characterizations to the point RE4 and remake4 Leon are opposites in tone. >>572979347Japanese Leon still snarked a bunch, the dub only slightly exaggerated him. "I knew you'd be fine if you landed on your butt" was "You'll be fine with that butt of yours", "Sounds like an alien invasion" is pretty much the same, he still calls Saddler senile for not calling U3 by name, and so on. There are lines where he says something serious the dub changed to a joke ("No thanks, bro" is "We're not your brethren", "Don't you mean lonely?" is just a "sorry"), but Leon was very much snarky in Japanese still. Given the way the game is written I doubt he was melancholic about Raccoon City at all too, so I doubt RER4 Leon is closer to Japanese Leon.>>572982792>Anything else is fluffEntire characterizations and how some characters are involved with the plot are pretty big changes. The broad strokes of the plots are the same, but how the events play is different, and Capcom will only reference the remakes events going forward, like how they ignored OG RE2 in RE9 and only referenced its remake (A RE2 track playing on RPD aside).
>>572987865There were definitely more alterations than that, Leon was overall more stoic is what I’m trying to say, he still cracked a few jokes, but it was more in line with what he was like in RE6 than RE4, even RE4R had a fair few jokes to deliver, but the delivery and tone is different
>>572988527Well yeah, Japanese Leon is an action hero so he has some of the default personality traits those Japanese characters have (Like the whole "Human lives aren't comparable to insects!" he says in the english dub is more of a Japanese type of dialogue the english dub didn't bother changing), but the attitude he occasionally has shows he's not treating the situation that seriously (Certainly nowhere as seriously as the remake). Right before he fights Salazar, he basically says "Another monster... I'll getting bored of them, but I guess I'll humor you.", which sounds even more dismissive of Salazar than what the english dub went for ("Monsters... Guess after this there'll be one less to worry about.").

>>573022016Ehhh, I like that aspect of it honestly. It shows the accidental nature of the outbreak. Not every monster you encounter is the result of purposeful engineering, some are just unfortunate animals with bad luck.

They can't really reference a game from nearly 30 years ago. Games are still for lids and teens, even if that's not the strongest as in biggest group, but whatever.
This costume accentuates Rebecca's ass perfectly.RE Zero finished. This was a really solid game. Its biggest issue, easily, is backtracking - they went too far with how limited your inventory is and how you need to set items down in certain rooms, while also making key items take up more space than ever. As a result, pacing slows down to a crawl for no good reason at times, and it becomes obvious that they really should've stuck to item boxes, but I guess they just really want to freshen up the formula somehow.Which leads me to the overall feeling Zero brought - this entire gameplay system, the one that dates all the way back to Sweet Home and Alone in the Dark, has now been squeezed for all its worth. Everything has been tried, every concept has been iterated upon. They went through every possible variant of the dual protagonist system, every possible enemy design (including very annoying ones), and every item management option. I think this was a good time to stop, and the soft reboot of Resident Evil 4 was a very good call. The series managed to narrowly avoid stagnation that was setting in with this title in particular. But disregarding item management issues, the game was fun. It looked great, it played as well as the remake, and the story, while still campy as shit (the opera-singing magical slug-manipulating bishounen says it all), was not as campy as Code Veronica. Besides, its presentation was far more bearable. Billy's African genocide flashback was pretty damn sudden, though. And we got to see Wesker and Birkin in action, albeit not for long. So, while ranking below the RE1 remake, I'd put this game above Code Veronica any day.Next up, Resident Evil: Dead Aim.

Dead Aim finished.Man, what the fuck did I just play. This game feels like it happened by accident, and it somehow makes the original Survivor look adequate. The start is fine-ish - there's a cruise ship, zombies, the usual cheesy voice acting, no understandable goal to move towards, but whatever. The antagonist is legitimately just a dude from Kingdom Hearts - black cloak with zippers, long white hair, the works. Then the dude turns into a lady who shoots electricity because he injected himself with a T+G-Virus, which is a thing now. And he's immortal too because your guns can't hit him. You need to escape the ship. After you reach the deck, with no warning at all, the ship just blows up. But it's okay because the protagonist somehow got teleported to some other place? So you explore that place and notice that the level design is not nearly as complex as the ship was. Then you find out that the Kingdom Hearts dude threatened to nuke the US and China with his super-virus, and then the Chinese chick who's your partner gets attacked by a satellite laser? Because apparently the Chinese government decided to nuke her from orbit, because they got scared by the Kingdom Hearts dude? Then you go into the sewers, and the level design collapses - everything turns into a LITERAL straight hallway. The levels are just straight hallways with small rooms that contain keys for you to pick up. So you randomly stumble upon a laboratory, where you randomly stumble upon some plasma rifle, and that rifle can kill the Kingdom Hearts lady-dude, but not before he launches a self-destruct sequence that blows up the whole thing, but that's okay because the protagonist and his chick got teleported again into some safety pod where they bang. Roll credits (with some cheesy Japanese rock song).Something tells me this story is not going to come up much in the overarching Resident Evil narrative.I guess I'll just go play Outbreak now.
Eeeh, fuck Outbreak. I have no idea what's going on, the AI runs around shouting random phrases, and all of it is just massively confusing. This was clearly supposed to be an online-only game with a very rudimentary singleplayer mode. It's not how you should play it, and I can't be arsed to do it properly, because the next game on the list is Resident Evil 4.

Seeing how this is an online game first, the issue seems obvious.Besides, at this point, I managed to finish every single classic RE title, and I'm itching to play RE4, so best to just move on instead of bitching about a game I can't even play properly.>>573051738Sure. Watched the second Resident Evil movie.Damn, this was so much better than the first one. They actually adapted the games this time, and you can definitely tell they even played said games - some of the setpieces were quoting them one-to-one (like one action scene copying the opening of Code Veronica). I also liked the characters - this version of Jill is legitimately cool, it's exactly how I imagined her when I played the third game. Nemesis was also pretty on point, they even referenced The Terminator in his first-person view. The action scenes were ridiculous, but in a good way, some of it wouldn't have looked out of place in Devil May Cry.This was pretty much exactly what I expected to see from a Resident Evil movie. I miss the days when shlocky and fun B-movies like these were being made, and not everything was family-oriented ironic capeslop. Maybe that's why these are so easy to watch.

>>573138516Not that I’m aware of. Funnily enough I only just finished my own playthrough of the remake earlier in February this year despite having started it on launch day. It succeeded in making me want more of the universe but it also made me appreciate the original more.
>>573138516yeah i got that one too
I have nothing to play or do
>>573141417>it also made me appreciate the original moreI already loved the original but it has been probably 8 years since I last played it. Getting the level 2 suit hit like a wet fart compared to how big of a moment upgrading your suit was in the original. The sound design is also really bad. I can't even hear enemies behind me at all while the audio was very crisp and precise in the original. The enemies being much faster I think is somewhat of an improvement but I can see it possibly causing issues later in the game. I am actually encouraged to make use of stasis in most combat encounters while I could pretty much just ignore stasis entirely in most encounters in the original.
Talking about Dead Space reminded me of how I have wanted to go back and play the ludokino Dead Space Mobile that I loved so much as a child... and I finally found an APK that actually mostly works. Other APKs I have tried in the past have had really weird audio and lighting issues. I might just play this instead of the DEmake
Man, it's cool how this game manages to look visually rich while keeping the color palette so bleak. It's a testament to the dev team's artistic skill. Also, it's funny how Leon, who was a dorky youngster in RE2, has now become an aloof badass with a husky voice. It's funny just how arcadey RE4 is, like how you shoot birds for bonus points, or how you have secret challenges. Gun Survivor DNA here is actually very apparent. It plays in a similar fashion to those games - you can't move and shoot at the same time, there are tank controls, reloading can only be done from the aim mode, etc. For a game that practically invented the modern third-person shooter, it doesn't feel much like one.

>>573206673>he catches birds and mice all the time, but he's a glutton so he got chubbyNo, a strictly hunting cat cannot get fat if no other food is provided. A cat's natural wild diet consists of small meals (like mice) that are high in protein and fat, but very low in carbohydrates. Because a hunt burns more calories than a meal provides, cats must consume multiple catches daily just to break even.
