And I don't think there's ever going to be a TF3 because way too many people have opinions on what they think TF is/should be and whether it should/shouldn't change in a sequel. Like if they actually made the a new game that was better balanced and more competitive people would call it woke and selling out even though Robin Walker always wanted people to take the game somewhat seriously but wasn't able to. When you're making games you have to make compromises for what a general audience would find fun. Quake and Unreal were already old relics in 2007, they weren't competing with those games. The idea of TF2 being competitive was seen as a stupid joke before 2015, and it was only taken slightly more seriously around 2015 when you had more people explaining it. If you listen to the TF2 developer commentary you can see that they did correctly evaluate that most players are just going to do whatever they want. But that isn't unique to TF2 in any way, it happens in literally every FPS game. And they end of the day, people want to return to monkey, and just walk around a field and throw rocks at the other monkey. TF2 isn't different from CoD, Halo, Quake, Unreal in that regard.
