I think they said they managed to patch some things for the F-15E for compatibility with recent updates by changing things in the DCS source code instead of the traditional way of doing it through the module source code. Not sure if that will work with the Vulkan update though.

Gentleman, I am delivered of pain. The cockpit I had made from MDF was great, but it was also great at fucking my lower back.
I might have fucked something in the geometry of the back rest, or, in placing some padding, I fucked something that directly impacted my spine. I dismantled it whole and placed a regular car seat I got from a scrap yard.
You cannot believe how good it feels, the pain the strain the suffering after every session, all gone. I can dunk the breaks without feeling my spine tearing in two and then get up without cracking every vertebrae like a whip.
It's so good, to feel no pain is so good.
Installing that half rotten shit was a god sent inferno.

Bought a new wheel and got this seat off a old FIAT at my local scrap yard. The under side is rusted and I nailed two planks together and made an ad hock base for it. I've busted my back in the past months using that cockpit and I had enough when racing at brand. Two and half long race and by halfway through I was howling inside my room every time I tried to apply the breaks somewhat competently. I whacked a porsche into the wall and quited because I couldn't physically stand anymore.
Ever felt a pain like your spine sides being crush within themselves? It was like that, like someone was choke holding my spinal cord.
It took me four hours to get the old cockpit parts off and put the new chair, and figure out to NOT bolt a half rusted out seat base and have it secure. It took so long because I kept loosing my tools and I had to stop to lay down and decompress my back.
Here's the final result. a DD wheel and a car seat. It feels GREAT, great I tell you. So good I don't want to get up from it, I've played a bit of AC with it and it was so comfy. The bad part was the dude who sold me the seat wouldn't sell me just the one I needed, so now I own an entire set of seats, front and rear, nearly all clawed to ribbons and littered with cat hair. Might make a couch out of it.
>>
>>572289101
Nice that it even has a removable headrest for when you want to switch to VR.
>>
>>572290581
It can bet forwards to adjust head distance, compared to the other front seat, this one is pristine. The wheel is good but I feel that it might have some cogging issue. I can feel the force kicking in when the car shakes too hard, like it hits some stopper and moves in the opposite direction. I'm reluctant about warranty because I want to test the issue's coming from the wood base I got going right now, it feels like softly hitting wood with mallet. I'll order a metal frame to replace it and see if solves it.
I've also stripped two bolts from the support base, need to replace those as well.

The depriciation of flight sim hardware is so good, you can do this sort of thing. Based autist hobby.
>>
>>572303123
You can do both.
A 3-point take off gives you the shortest takeoff distance, it is good for smaller bush planes.
A 2-point one gives you more speed (with assorted rudder control) and is to be preferred on heavier warbirds or in crosswind.

Very good video to understand it all :

>Haptic Feedback: The virtual cockpit includes "haptic" technology that provides the pilot with the physical sensation of touch while using the augmented reality controls.

The tempest will have capabilities of effectively being a high end DCS rig. So get practicing lads. Prove yourselves on DCS and there might just be a role for you in WW3 that isn't digging trenches and getting killed by a drone. If you don't have a full FFB and a buttkicker on your rig in 2026 then it's the infantry meat grinder for you.
>>
>>572362058
Following routes is a skill to be developed. Most common errors are over correcting instead of letting the plane fly itself as much as possible, and not trimming to keep altitude and/or deal with crosswind. It's normal to err a bit along the line but don't try to recover as fast as possible, aim for a long and straight shot.

There are some exercise to grok TACAN nav such as doing orbits as a constant distance from the station, or arriving a bearing A and leaving at bearing B and going from A to B either in a straight line at the same angle with each route, or by flying an arc keeping the same distance with the station.

Also do some ILS landings in complete fog if you want some good beacon "fun".

I've just found a bizarre incident from the other week involving this plane
>An Eurofly Twinfox with two occupants, while returning to the Goito airfield, was forced to make an emergency landing in a floodplain area near Borgo Virgilio due to an electrical failure. Once the malfunction was repaired (an accidental detachment of the spark plug connection contacts),
Fine
>the pilot took off alone toward Goito, leaving the passenger on the ground
wat
>After returning to the landing site by car and being unable to locate the stranded passenger, the pilot notified the authorities. The passenger was subsequently located and rescued by the Carabinieri.
Maybe he purposely left his wife behind in an attempt to get rid of her.

The MW6 also has a working choke/enricher simulation for starting a cold engine. Nice to see devs implementing that since MSFS doesn't seem to have it built in.
Of the planes I've gotten recently:
Mini-Max 1500R -- choke is simulated, needed for cold start and also kills engine power if you leave it on too long as engine heats up
Whittaker MW6 -- choke is simulated for starting (binary on/off rather than variable), but leaving choke on after start doesn't seem to have any effect
Rans S-6S -- choke is fake, lever moves but doesn't have any effect and isn't needed for start (default MSFS standard)

Kind of surprised that DCS doesn't let you make axes relative instead of absolute. The rocker on the T Flight's throttle would be good as a way to vertically sweep the radar on the F-5 but by default it's absolute so you have to hold it at a certain elevation.
I should probably just upgrade my HOTAS at this point - definitely feeling the pinch on buttons I should be able to access without taking my hands off.

The S6S is still a pretty cool plane though, with the oil dipstick and engine burping and visual coolant level check and CAS J3C-like gas can animation for both wing tanks independently, gas can contents persistence, circuit breaker tripping, oil pressure/oil temp/CHT/coolant temp-based engine wear and oil & coolant leaks, doors that break off if you leave them open at high speed, trike, trail dragger, and amphibious versions, wheel pants, bush tires, optional autopilot, Aera or TDS GTNXi GPS options, a user-editable fold-out paper map to put in the glove box if you opt for no GPS, and state saving for all of the above

I made a Lua script in FSUIPC7 that does choke simulation for the S6S (might work with other planes with dummy chokes too). It's probably not very realistic but I figure it's better than nothing. Feels neat to have to manage the choke when starting.

I've been critical of the Starship but after some nice long flight over China I got to like her better.

Found that one of the issue I had with her, too aggressive pitch change in autopilot, was due to using the controls on the climb indicator instead of the autopilot pitch change rocker back of the pedestal.

Didn't experience the weird pitch runaway issue I had been having, maybe SU5 smoothed some stuff out.

Holy fuck, the warbirds are so good. Why does the rest of the sim have to suck so badly? This is a peak virtual flight experience.
Off to plink more non-reactive static targets, I guess. Sure hope they don't shoot back with terminator aim and that I don't miss the target by more than 12 inches with my 2,500lbs of splash-less and fragment-less WW2 ordnance.

DCS flight physics feel great, IL-2 just can't compete. It's ruined other sims for me, especially with props and helicopters.
AI is always going to be dogshit compared to human players in any game, it all gets stale eventually whether it's on the ground or in the air. Flight dynamics are what keep you coming back to fuck around for the sake of fucking around.
>>
>>572372986
No FFB? I just bought Moza AB9 and Moza FFB throttle. From research the difference it can make is enormous. Cost me just under a grand for the set up because I got a grip too. Especially with those two games it'd come in handy I'm sure. Only 500 more and if you've used yours for 15 years already then it's a good investment to have a good experience for many years to come. AB6 is even cheaper and it comes with a grip.

My experiences with various things, dealing directly with SEA companies is always a risk, even companies based in the west which don't have solid retail stores or sites are the same. There is an issue and you could be hung out to dry. IDK if moza have operations in the US, they do in GB and that's what made it a safe purchase. Worth spending more for your hobby if you sink a lot of hours into it.

Ok here's where I give up, got close but il-2 decided to cuck me at last step:
>remove everything related to linuxtrackxir, reinstall by building from source, do the usual steps of installing the necessary shit in the ltr_gui, install to the experimental prefix I'm using for il-2
>start up il-2, verify that trackir is bound to control something (pitch and yaw of plane in my case lol) and working
>figure out which bindings you need to edit for your trackir (in my case it was bc_head_pitch and bc_head_yaw bound to joy0_axis_x and joy0_axis_y) (I spent way too long at an impasse because I thought "Camera control horizontal" or whatever was what I had to bind to, but turns out that can't take an axis (thanks for telling me slavs))
>open global.actions in notepad++ under wine (I tried every other text editor, could not get the game to not freeze if I used anything else)
>edit your binds, save as whatever.action under custom folder, make sure it doesn't add a .txt or anything
>change to your new whatever profile and enjoy (and then change it to whatever again when you actually get in a mission)

I am smitten with MSFS24.

Are there any third party tools that maybe handle ATC or add more traffic or things like birds/animals on the ground?

Also which plane has the most full-featured/functional Avionics systems that I can fiddle with?
>>
>>572415737
・Traffic in Sight for misc traffic like hangliders and hot air balloons -- this addon creates them as terrain objects with collision instead of as aircraft injection
・FS Birds
・SayIntentions is an expensive subscription but is the best ATC addon at the moment, includes VFR/GA traffic
・BeyondATC or FSHud for cheaper ATC addons, IFR only at the moment
・GAmod for free GA traffic addon if not using SayIntentions

Based Yak, unironically a great module to putter around in and/or abuse the damage model with.
If you're flying VFR here you want to be in Abkhazia. Caucasus always kind of looks like shit, but finding a region with better terrain goes a long way.
There are a couple of ground texture and tree overhaul mods on the forums that help this one a lot too, it's getting quite long in the tooth now.
Syria is the best-looking map and gets a lot of multiplayer rotation. Germany is great too, but it turns high-end rigs into space heaters and gets no online play because of it.
Don't forget to raise your landing gear next time.

trackir is probably the best head tracking you can get, but expensive new. You can use a webcam and face tracking, it's cheap but not as good. I used opentrack on my phone for a while which was still so much better than not having head tracking, but getting trackir was a huge jump.

The only issue with head tracking for me is it can give me neck ache, I sit in weird positions with it on for some reason.

Force feedback flight simming gear is very niche even with flight simming. It's fucking expensive. MSFS doesn't support it, according to Asobo it's not down to them but down to manufacturers, I can't remember what their reason was. Bought T.Flight One hotas with pedals for £50 local to me. Literally a few mile drive. All works perfectly, a few scratches. My first taste of a hotas and I've got the full set up all on its way, this was just in case the R1 Falcon pedals took months to arrive because then I'd have the T.Master rudders.

It feels strange honestly, only ever flown games with a keyboard and mouse, prefer keyboard mostly. Trying to chase down another Su25 in DCS to fly behind and learn to match distance and speed. Couple deadspots I noticed in this hotas but £50 for a hotas and pedals, it's illegal to complain.

is it really worth the extra 300 bucks for the extra torque/build quality?
>>
>>572493068
>500 dollarydoos just for the base
Ouch, it'd be better be good for that much.
>>
>>572493068
I have literally 1 hour experience with flying with a hotas because I bought the T.Master One today as a stop gap for my order to arrive. I'll make some unlisted videos on the set up once it's arrived so people can see if it's worth it or not, they'll know better than I do. I chose the AB9 for a few reasons based off what people said and my own thought process.

>people seem to consistently cite feeling the gears with the AB6
>AB6 has 6Nm of torque, which is half the torque of the AB9
>better build quality, more metal parts
>AB6 isn't really that much cheaper
I paid £667 for the AB9, desk mount and the MH16 flight stick. The AB6 comes with a flightstick, which isn't as nice as the MH16. So you're also paying for a middle of the road stick. The AB6 is £400(includes mount and stick) and the AB9 was £667 for the 3 items, so is it worth £270 more? Absolutely. And if you're not buying the flightstick because you've got one, that's £520 vs £400 for a much superior product. When there's such a small price gap, you'd be a fool not to go straight to the AB9.

Another thing I've heard is people seem to have more issues with the AB6 and then when they send it back to Moza, the majority of people I've seen online have opted to upgrade to the AB9 instead of getting an AB6 replacement. Only thing the AB6 has going for it is le buttons.

Other thing I don't understand that I read when I made my decision:

>The AB9 offers a stationary "Force Sensing" mode (like an F-16 sidestick), which the smaller motors of the AB6 cannot support.
? but I guess it's another +

TLDR get the AB9 and bonus points for the Moza MTP throttle with vibration feedback for the larp.
>>
>>572474571
Those will serve you just fine, especially for the price. Now see if you can dig up a Quest 3 for a similar discount.
>>
>>572495916
Already ordered AB9, moza MTP throttle, the virpil pedals. This was just a stopgap because I might need pedals if it takes too long for virpil to ship, but they already made the shipping number so idk maybe it's coming this week. Probably gifting the thrust master set up to someone if I can find someone who wants it, if not I'll contact the seller and give it back to his son.

I'm heavily in on Virpil (previously a Warbrd-D, CM3 throttle, Control Panel #1) but decided to get an AB9 when it came out because it was feasible in a way that Rhino and other FFB options weren't where I live. I use my Virpil Constellation stick on the base.

Negatives first. Their software is improving over time and they update pretty regularly, but there's been some minor, weird little gremlins over the last year and a bit I've had it that have mostly been resolvable with turning effects on and off or switching between direct and telemetry a couple times. My Virpil stick is almost 100% fully functional through the AB9 - I used to use "axis to button" on the analogue stick for four more bindings and that's not possible but otherwise I haven't lost any functionality.

Positives - I'll never play without FFB again. Every single module is improved, some much less so like FBW jets - although the "F-16 mode" that makes it a force-sensing stick is kinda neat - but older steam-driven jets, especially the Mirage F1 which the devs have leaned pretty hard into FFB, are just phenomenal. Similar to when you get a load cell brake pedal in sim racing, you build a memory for how the jet feels at corner speed and what happens when you pull too hard and wash speed off, and in immersion terms it feels utterly alive. Helicopters are absolutely game-changing, you're obviously aware that it becomes a "dead stick" and you can just move the cyclic where you need and it remains there, you can pretty much fly happily all day without trim.

I've been thoroughly enthralled by it.

I will. Got to wait for the desk mount and rearrange the room so my dog doesn't fuck up cables or knock anything. The R1 Falcons feel waaaay nicer than these thrust masters. I know they're 3x the price but still, I can barely use these trustmasters because the centering is so light. Heavy springs for the Falcons will be good, I want to fight the rudder. Might centre my 27inch monitor instead too because the 24 inch isn't really big enough as I sit further back with a hotas.

In case they choose the T-7 I'm really interested how much of a clusterfuck it is going to be considering the plethora of issues it currently has. Falcon 50 is a pretty chill guy. He nests in trees and is not afraid of anything.

Went to check how much fighter blood was in this Dassault product : not that much. It is heavy to handle and suffer from poor acceleration, though at 200kts you can pull decent loops and rolls.

I then crashed on takeoff after doing a full stop landing and coming up again on the remaining runway.
>>
>>572628410
What's the plane like? Rate it out of 88
>>
>>572628485
After three flights (not simming much lately) I rate it 69 out of 88. It's not cheap, but at a time where developers are increasing prices anyway it is a good value, as you have a nice model with good sounds, fully modeled systems (no bug or approximation so far), decent flight model, free of obvious bug (I had two weird behaviours but one (yoke trim disconnect) was actually working as expected (I used the pedestal pitch trim which decoupled the two, you need to push back the spring loaded button underneath to regain yoke trim), so the other may very well be too).

It comes with lots of gadgets : animated drawers and table in the cabin (no toilet :( ), RC tug, manual refueling, utility vehicles around, tooltips...

It handles like some light airliner though, not a very fun to hand flight aircraft. Challenging to land properly too. Still not sure how it'll fit in my usual GA routine.

I was using wheel steering. I thought maybe wind also, but I was going too slow for wind to be a factor and it's not consistent with the wind sock direction. Don't think wheel brakes are sticking either because I reset them. Might reset all controls after I land. Now the plane is flying steady and not banking so it must be ground related. Are runways uneven at times? Only thing I can think unless wind sock isn't simulated correctly.

Maybe it's too sensitive or it's defauot position is a bit canted? Try to see if you can increase the deadzone and see if it helps. The plane going to the left during takeoff can also be due to the engine imparting torque, but you should easily be able to correct it with opposite rudder.

I only bought flaming cliffs, so might be someone different from who you think I may be. Trialling the Nevada and MB-399 as part of my training larp. I like this map a lot personally, and the plane feels really nice. It's not very powerful but it's agile and feels safe compared to the Su-25 which I didn't really enjoy. Didn't realise the 399 was full fidelity but it's nowhere near as scary as I thought, even though it doesn't have weapon systems. I'll buy both of these but holy fuck I can tell this is going to be expensive. Hardware only half way there because now I need to get a rig because my desk isn't comfortable and I can't be fucked taking everything off every day. Probably at least another £1200 to spend this year. If I were to say to myself a year ago "it's not actually going to cost £800 for the set up" I'd have laughed it off. End game is probably at least £4000 which sounds ridiculous, and is, but I'm desensitized and know what I want now.

>>
>>572752131
Summed it up perfectly actually, I agree. Much easier to remember those patterns especially considering they were designed to be accessible during high stress situations. Got a moza throttle with a bunch of switches I'm yet to set up, all labelled but I don't know what most of it means, just know how to get the jet in the sky and bring it back down (after destroying the landing gear of course). Maybe 15 buttons out of 200 or so I actually use in the cockpit.
>>
Do people keep labels in their native languages or switch them to English/your language of choice?

If Camera-based head tracking ever became competitive with track-ir do you think it would be more important to have a high-fps camera or a high resolution camera for it?
>>
>>572852443
You probably don't need more than 60 fps for a tracking camera, plus you can program some smoothing in on top of that so that you would never even be able to notice the tracking update frequency. Pimax's SLAM tracking only uses 30 fps, low resolution, black and white cameras, and it's pretty good with only that.
I would imagine the most important thing for a camera based head tracker would be how well it can auto adjust for lighting and contrast.

Speaking of the the red arrows, even if you buy the M-346, compared to an hawk, the cost per flight hour would increase a lot (the other options would even cost more due to the afterburning engine). Plenty of normie retards complain already that display teams are a waste of money, how would they justify it?
Depending on how much it cost they could unironically decide to cut down the numbers to 2 or 4 max and give them Typhoons and do like the americans so they have something british made.
Also, I still have my doubts they'll actually be buying jets seeing the actual budget for the next trainer + RA , from what I saw was only 320M. My source had said that they were going to buy 36 PC-21s. With their unit price (plus extras) the 320m figure would make sense.

note how the game awards full sortie bonus and recovers your craft for ANY landing where your pilot can exit the cockpit and walk away from - if it's in friendly territory. Pic related, revoker needlessly complete upon such a landing with a massive margin for a beating.

Getting the DCS bf-109 off the ground feels fucking impossible. If you can even get it to go straight long enough to get off the ground it instantly rolls left upside down and crashes.

No fucking shot it works this way IRL. The one in IL-2 doesn't act like this at all.

>The one in IL-2 doesn't act like this at all.
Il-2 does fuck all to actually simulate how props behave tho. No propeller gyroscopic precession, no torque effect or anything really.
Now, i haven't tried the 109 in DCS, but its a very powerful engine on a pretty small and light plane. Wouldn't be surprised if its hard to manage on take off.

>Il-2 does fuck all to actually simulate how props behave tho.
Neither does DCS.
>>
>>573209201
Its leagues above Il-2 either way
>>
>>573209334
Not for the 109 at least. Since DCS does not simulate propwash, the 109 does not have the rudder authority before rotate speed to overcome its torque. Meaning you cannot realistically fly it and have to "cheese it" to get it in the air, which is not the case in IL-2.
>>
>>573209684

Tap the toe brakes quickly and frequently, don't rely in the rudder until you're like halfway to takeoff speed. Hopefully you have toe brakes.

>>
>>
>>573209684
DCS has propwash, it's just a slipstream applied to the plane specifically I believe and not the world. It's also pretty jank, but I don't fly warbirds.

Hop in the P-51, crank your throttle and pull on the stick, step on your rudders. You will get tail authority while parked.
>>
>>
>>573211707
If you even tap the toe brakes it tends to start moving sideways on the ground. And I mean literally moving/sliding sideways at a 70-80 degree angle from the forward thrust axis. It's literally impossible for anything like this to happen in real life, it's like flying a hovercar.
Nothing at this point can convince me the physics for this thing aren't just completely fucked. I'll stick to Il-2 for props.
>>
>>573226829
You tapped too hard. You have to finesse them with little taps right and left.
>>
>>573226953
Okay, cutting back to using very little right rudder even in the flare and just nudging the brakes to hold centerline I can get it in the air smoothly and consistently now. I still think the ground handling is UFO-tier, but at least you can fuck it into working.

Tried it, it's much better, now you can actually land the plane smoothly. Good job from Contrails.

Did a couple more flights, and I can say it is growing on me. It does take some skills to hand fly properly, in particular during approach, climbs well and fast, and while it's not a Learjet you can still go for some 4k+ft/min after takeoff if you let her take on speed. Good plane to try fast runs.

My only remaining gripes are the limited choice in non-white liveries (might need to check flightsim.to), some one-off minor systems not working as expected that I can't reproduce, and of course still no toilets (nor cabin individual lights for what it's worth).

Not particularly exciting so far, just more bug fixes. Personally I want to see the approach stutter fixed, I'll have to test it and see if it's still there. I'm also interested to see what difference DLSS 4.5 will have, and if DLSS AA is still blurry for glass cockpits.

I got confused, they have added some narrated discovery flights but only three. The normal discovery flight is just being spawned in the interesting area with pins enabled and being deafened with sporadic 'epic' music which I had to turn off. There were things I'd missed seeing so it was nice to see those, I probably wouldn't do a discovery flight again though.

So, while not really a hardcore racing sim, Wreckfest 2 got updated recently and they've finally fixed the setup menu as in, there's proper values for everything now. So for some reason, instead of slamming into other cars, I've exclusively been going full autismo with upgrades and setups, but then, I decided to play this with a wheel.
Anyway, you can set your FOV for any view, the FFB menu has some decent options, but everything worked perfectly out of the box on my T300RS and honestly, this is pretty much some of the best FFB I've experienced. I'd say for dirt racing, it IS the best and as far as sliding feel, weight transfer and all that, it easily mogs Assetto Corsa.
I wouldn't say racing with a wheel from cockpit view is good for banger racing, like you really need some sort of radar here more than in actual sims, but the driving? Fuck, there is no rally, rallycross, or vintage muscle content in any sim currently, that drives better. No idea wtf happened here, but Bugbear basically did a Destruction Derby game, that craps all over Dirt 2.0 and Assetto Corsa Rally.
The other thing is, it's not replicating any retarded real live series, tracks are fun without being IRL replicas, same with cars, no cig add or crypto scam liveries, but the bet part? No retard rating system. You wanna ram someone? Fine, just don't be surprised, if you start loosing oil on the next lap and fuck up your camshaft.
It's a fun game with a pad with a great rabbit hole, if you like tuning (if you don't wtf are you doing playing sims?). Where it becomes mind-blowing is when you try it with a wheel.
>>
>>573372436

>Is it any good?
Hell yeah, it's wonderful, at least in terms of driving feel. Wreckfest 1 obviously has more content, mods, career and stuff, while 2 is kinda barebones at this point, but the physics alone just scream huge improvement. I seem to remember when 1 was in early access, the physics for crashing and overall car handling seemed more complex, but then the got nerfed, so for example you can't properly drift, unless you use some mod. In 2, you can take a totally-not-mustang and either turn it into a rally car, a tarmac grip machine, or something that goes sideways the second you look the the throttle. I know people who play racing sims can't be bothered with setups and shit or praise a game based on default shit alone, which is stupid, but what made me really get into Wreckfest 2 was the tuning, like you either drive the default limp-dick car, or you upgrade it, in which case you need to do a setup!
And it's astounding, cause for something that seems an arcade racer, we actually get a fully fledged physics engine, the ability to do upgrades and adjust that shit so it's derivable the way we want it to be. No sim does that. I know Forza and GT do, but here the physics are actually good. On pad the game is great, on a wheel, it transforms into something that basically just shits on actual sims. Take the not-mustang, any track and rip the fuck out of that dirt. RBR, Dirt 2, AC Rally, WRC games can all go fuck themselves. This might be some simcade, arcade, backed-in FFB shit, but it just feels how it should feel. No fiddling, not googling for FFB settings, no custom files. It's basically like Live for Speed - you bind your controls, and it feel like you would expect a real car to feel all.
But if you just want to enjoy it with a gamepad, yeah that works awesome too.

stick maps were only a marshall islands thing and it wasn't even universal, there were lots of weird little temporary island technologies like this that just died with the last people or groups who remembered what they were for.
polynesians also may have reached south america

Up so big right now. My plane wife will never get a high fidelity module but with this I'm finally home.

What now?

Now you do the tutorials, and watch a bunch of youtube videos. You should be pretty proficient within 50 hours or so.

Why doesn’t anyone make a $10 full instructional campaign on how to fly and effectively utilize a given plane, and sell it on Steam? I can’t. Imagine the original devs would say no.
>>
>>573450978
Rising Squall comes with a secondary training campaign that has some pretty useful weapons training. I actually enjoyed it more than the main campaign (which was an annoying Ace Combat anime enema with niggardly win conditions).

Before I bought the plane, I used the 2 week free-trial and installed the Gunthrek's Training Campaign for the F/A-18.
Thought it was pretty alright, better than the official tutorials at least.

don't become a whale. If you're not enjoying the modules you have now you're not going to enjoy the others. You'll just keep chasing that dopamine rush given by purchasing something new, but it will never last.
>>
>>573455794
Welcome to the flight sim world, where every other module look oooh so tempting and learning new systems is real fun.
>>
>>573458786
You're right.
I should at the very least learn the ins and outs of helicopter and plane flight on these two before I consider anything else.
>>
>>573459217
Good, stick to what you have already bought till at least the winter sales, then you can decide if you want something more. It's like that saying about not doing groceries on an empty stomach.

>My plane wife will never get a high fidelity module
How do you feel about the Codename Flanker mods?
>>
>>573450978
Probably because most of the players nowadays are just interested in the multiplayer side, more specifically the SPAMRAAM side of it. They can just buy a modern module and learn to sling stuff in a few minutes and call it a day.
Actually learning how to fly, navigation, procedures etc would require a lot of improvement first and foremost to core DCS, and we already know ED doesn't give a fuck about doing that.
But even from the third party developer side a "flight school" module would require both deep knowledge and a massive effort on their part for something most people would not even buy.
It's still my wet dream, a proper flight school module that starts with the yak-52 and ends with the MB-339 for cold war stuff would be great. For modern ipad plane stuff it would be nice to start with the SF-260 and finish with the M-346.
>>
>>573455794
>>573458786
It's not terrible to be a bit of a whale if it's a historic low discount on something you're certain you'll fly, though.
This is the best sale they've had in a couple of years on some modules.

Well you can do that on MSFS.
Start with the default 172 or Robin to do circuits and basic nav, do some aerobatics in the Cap-10, move to the great freeware T-37 for jet handling and high-speed nav. Add some glider for energy management and getting a sense of atmosphere dynamics (not that it matters in DCS since it is not modeled), and then you have pretty much a complete fighter pilot curriculum.
>>
>>573459815
I think part of it as well would be adding the ability to recognise what errors a new pilot might make so you can correct/explain what they're doing wrong - that's pretty difficult to do with just scripting, I think.
Like I'm learning the Hip and I've been watching the tutorial vids and such but it'd sure be nice to have someone sitting in the cockpit going "okay no you're doing [x]/[y] a bit too fast, you need to slow down".
>>
>>573460195
If I'm honest, the one I'm interested in (the F4) isn't even on sale. I was considering the F-16, but then I could just get BMS for that.
>>
I might just have to grab a set of pedals along with a new HOTAS. Or just the pedals first, see how much of an improvement they are with the current HOTAS, THEN get the new hotas.
>>
>>573461319
pedals are a real "what the fuck have I been doing this whole time" addition that will hugely improve your quality of life, especially with small props and helicopters

I meant more of a set of curated missions that try to get close to how a real life military flight school would be. Things like doing exercises within a container with soft ceilings and floors etc but not autistic enough to become something like Vatsim
>>573460752
yeah that would be incredibly hard or impossible imho

Maybe try to look online for real world operating manuals for your plane (you can probably find the F5's, it's all declassified now) and try to do take-off and landing patterns by the number. Fast military jets usually have strict speed/AOA requirement on landing, that are usually disregarded in DCS because no mechanic or squadron leader will be on your back if you keep blowing tires or damaging your landing gear.

If you have the performance charts you can also train to do climb/cruise at optimal speed/economy setting. I used to fly the MSFS Jaguar against it's real life documentation and realize that not only it did stick to the numbers, but it also required some planning and handling finesse.

A simple 100NM VOR/TACAN nav with full performance planning, fuel and weight calculation, while sticking to the charts, track and procedures at all times with no tolerance for mismatch is an involving and very gratifying way to get to learn your aircraft.

Kursant is about as close as you'll get, but nobody else bought it so don't expect more trainer content.
You can LARP a full Eastern Bloc training progression with the aircraft available in the sim, a large stack of manuals, and enough free time or unconstrained autism.
>>
>>573474569
I've grown to hate and notice UE visual characteristics to the point of autistic aversion to it.
Can't focus on driving when I'm noticing the dog shit smearing effect bushes and fast moving objects have when compared to the pristine glass sharp visuals of old AC or even AMS2.
And the menu UI is s dogshit, just as bad as AMS2, but AMS2 has so many cars and tracks I let it pass.

Imagine steering a car by twisting the gear shift knob, that will give you a good idea how much better rudder pedals are.
