I'm having an argument with some guys on /v/, and I figured I'd ask you guys:

Does it make Terraria bad if there are multiple ways to beat a boss? Like there are multiple speedrunners who can beat the moonlord without buffs or health or armor, and apparently this makes Terraria a bad game.

I think /v/ is a bunch of retards, but figured I'd get your thoughts on this.

I can see what the argument could be, as there are times in games where letting the player have too many options is taking away from the game and being more limited leads to an overall more enjoyable experience.
That said, no, Terraria is not one of those times, being able to beat anything with anything as long as you have the ingenuity/patience/skill is great and should be expected of a sandbox. It's why things like the Water Bolt and Meteorite changes are bad and understandably disliked.

The Reaver Shark getting a nerf was understandable as it was the best one Pre-Hardmode, but it only needed to be slightly weaker than Molten to have you mine Hellstone for Cobalt/Palladium, not nerf it to complete uselessness.
This isn't like a weapon where it being weaker is fine if the player is okay with dealing suboptimal damage, it's a pickaxe, you can't use it at all to mine some things. You will need to get a Demonite/Crimtane pickaxe which is easier to obtain than the Reaver Shark. I miss my shark friend.

I'm currently playing, but I'm not there yet. The mod is comfy, very vanilla like. Some items are just recolors but overall fun mod I can see why many people like it vs something more elaborated like Calashitty that feels more like devs wanted to do their own thing.

I seem to recall that if you named your character a specific dev name, that the fairy light pet would always spawn as one of the specific colors (pink, green, blue), but I don't remember which for either the name or the color.

the revear shark and crate changes did nothing but remove ways to play

there isn't a single new player who's going to ruin their experience by specifically going to the ocean to fish up a pickaxe and then waste a ton of time fishing crates to unbox a gorillion titanium from for an instant armor set as soon as the wof is dead to gigarush mechs, same with the king slime soul farm strat
while the change to how cor/crim convert the jungle and altars no longer randomly spawning evil/hallow in your world are great and lessen the need to rush stuff the fishing nerf is still lame as hell

Like, you can just fish the crates in hardmode instead of pre-hm, what's the difference? You're gonna be spending the same exact amount of time fishing. Was it because they thought that players were going to have to put themselves in more danger in HM to fish hardmode crates? I think what your town needs to feel more connected is some kind of elevated railway connecting the hill district to the lower district, maybe suspended from a few floating islands and clouds so that the supports that would otherwise have to be connected to the ground don't tarnish the nice landscape you've made

Man, I'm getting a hankering for another playthrough, seeing you guys post all of your builds.

The strange thing is, I kinda also want to try out Calameme and Wrath of the Gods again. I know I swore off of it last time, because my playthrough ended a bit abruptly, but I feel like I didn't give it a fair chance. Plus, admittedly my install was really bloated. Had both Spirit and Spirit reforged installed, and the two constantly clashed in world gen, so maybe this run will be better.

What do you fellas think?

I've barely played calamity but I didn't like how hard it seemed to clash with normal terraria. Does that mod lend itself to slow build-y playthroughs? Everything I see about it like the instant respawns and 8 gorillion bosses and insanely powercrept weapons makes me think you'd be better with thorium if you wanna play with mods

One taste of Calashitty and Fargo together made me stray away from mod combos unless they have colaborative content(Like Spriit and CalFables, pic related I like the relic but boy that shit is huge and the trophy even more) I know Fargo reworks Calamity's bosses and it could be me, but I don't think the weapons and accesories match that nicely? Calamity should be only played with it's own addons and such.
