Even higher now that we know the knight can summon a titan literally any time and the squad won't have any more Gersons to help fight them in the future. A real stakes reset would have needed the heroes to achieve a substatial victory over the knight, something that sets back their plans, otherwise the stakes are just ignored, not reset.

The main things that Toby wants to have included like Gerson you can see hints of all the way back at chapter 1, and they tend to come off as the most well thought out. A bunch of things in chapter 1 are like, never seen again. Remember Red Buster in the King fight? Says it deals "red damage" and it's never used again. Characters "will is changing" in those fights after acts was just never used again either. I'm not sure Toby had a concrete theme initially. "Defying fate at any cost" seemed to be a theme tacked onto the weird route initially, what with the beads in the hospital, but who knows where it's going now.I think Toby promised too big a game for what his initial vision was, and has had to wing a lot of stuff, (really good stuff though) like chapter 3 and chapter 5. People call it filler, and it kinda feels like it.
i went into weird route thinking i more or less knew everything (mostly just read other people's reactions to it over the years) and wouldn't be surprised but this bit made go hm and furrow my brows also that creepy ass chime in chapter 3's sword route
