I feel like the Knight can't straightforwardly be any Lightner at all. The game is about exploring dreamscapes. You'd think the primary antagonist would be related to dreams and the psychology of the primary dreamer, Kris. The Titans are psychological realities. They're an irrational, primal fear. A nightmare. The Knight is also a pure black-and-white shadow, like the Shadowmen and Titans, beings who have no Light World counterparts. It does crazy shit like turn into static and transform into different creatures... no Lightner or Darkner has shown this capacity, only the shadow-forms.

The funny thing about Asgore in both games is that even if he regrets his actions the narrative ends up justifying him.Killing the children did end up helping monsters escape from the enderground, and now they're even living in peace with humans and everyone got their happy ending.The knight and dark world does exist and his research does contain information that could help the heroes stop them.
