In context it's kind of cool but this also gave us m*thrax and in a sense e*do. There's an absolute boatload of missing surrounding content and history sadly.

I don't know how to determine a quality roll on a gun. there are too many perks and 80% of them are not clear on their actual impact. I can try different guns and get feedback on how it feels to use, but I can't swap a perk that gives +10 stability and be expected to get any feedback from that. how do people determine their "god rolls" because I'm pretty sure it's all pseudo science

PVE is pretty fun on its own like I mentioned, PVP is...well, it's there. If you do want to get into it I would prioritize getting into groups that do dungeons and raids on the regular, the cooperative puzzle solving is what makes them worthwhile.

how do I gauge my effectiveness for a given piece of content? the score screen is extremely anemic and while I tend to do well on what's there (usually most kills or almost tied with leader, and 2-3x orbs generated of anyone else) I don't really feel that strong in most fights or like I'm contributing much. Sometimes I use everything on the boss and watch the hp drop 1/6 and then 20s later my teammates have dropped it and I just wonder what I'm doing wrong

I took note of the 79 IB matches I joined so far this week and of the ones in which our team was more than half hunters, we lost more than 80% of the time to no small margin, and the same seemed to be true when the team comps are the other way around. The winningest combo was an about even mix of Titans and Warlocks with no greater than 2 Hunters, preferably 1 or none, and those were also the ones most likley to get mercy ruled.
