Soul knight theory seems like one to consider. Kris is dependent on our soul. We see the original soul Kris has is an Aqua soul. There are two souls at play. The soul we play as and the cyan soul Kris has. The knight might be a vessel played in broken / lost dreams piloted by a cyan soul. The knight uses lots of sword attacks just like Aqua does. That still leaves gaps like who the fuck built it. Why do they abduct their own parents and undyne. So I'm just thinking out loud but it is good to break out of the headspace of the knight being a character who isn't even missing in the abyss of existence or whatever the hell it is.
