In a recent interview with Anime Corner during Anime Expo 2026, Persona Team General Producer Kazuhisa Wada spoke about different changes made to Persona 4 Revival to make it more palatable for the current era, in contrast to 2008 when the original Persona 4 was first released on PlayStation. During the interview, he explained that the team hadn’t changed much “about the story or the character’s thoughts or how they act or anything,” — then adding that the changes were “mostly with Yosuke, really.”Yosuke wasn’t very controversial at the time of the title’s original release, but some of the content involving him has not aged too well. Most notably (in my opinion) is his treatment of Kanji and anyone he perceives as “other” or “outsider” relative to the rest of his friends. He also is the catalyst for some of Persona 4‘s more perverted teenager trope types of scenes. There are many reasons fans have speculated could fuel this behavior (especially as it relates to his sexuality and Kanji’s perceived sexuality), but at the core of it is that Yosuke represents a sort of “bro” archetype that just doesn’t fly as readily as it did nearly a decade ago.
