Crimson Trousers Edition

The Wheel has turned once again

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.
The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 3400 units, 1100 spells and 400 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them. It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.
Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

Mictlan sent some friendly invitations to get more friends to the party.

>wild hunt
Bit of an odd case because the assassinations do appear as being from the caster, but the caster has no control at all.
Since the attacks won't conquer provinces or set them under siege and is not controllable, I'll let it pass as a valid move.

Lanka still controls the arena. Unfortunately he's also patrolling so I couldn't see if anything happened in the arena this turn, but it doesn't look like, given the almost 600 troops, apparently mostly undead trash, sitting there.

Point for Lanka!

click one of the dogs and check their morale to see the bonus you get from beastmaster. the morale you see on the screen with the commander showing is just their baseline leadership ability, not any bonuses from stuff like beastmaster and taskmaster

Beastmaster (3) has the tight rein trait too i think? dogs have same morale as human units (13) yet they are -1 when paired with the beastmaster

yeah that is the tight rein ability. so he can also lead any undisciplined summons and give them orders like a normal commander could. just forge him some items to increase how many units he can lead and will be very useful for lots of summons

ONE BILLION HONEYBADGERS

Tight rein is lowkey a very good ability, a lot of summons become significantly better the moment you can get them to hold still for buffs (especially fliers, since it also means you get to set them to attack rear and stuff)

>>
>>573391463
Most of the stat resist blesses got nerfed, rightfully so rainbows were rampant for most of dom 5. Every game had 5 sacred elf or cavalry nations with 5 resist all and a shitload of defense and or strength + magic weapons. It felt like all you could do was outnumber them, it was really hard to find any weaknesses to exploit as some nations.

Shame they then added nidavangr though who can stat resist better than dom 5 nations could back then because every sacred is actually 3-10 sacreds

Ur easily takes the arena with a huge army from the leftover Vanheim troops.
Muspelheim arrives and rolls over them, at the cost of half of their army.
Then Caelum finally gets to see the "more mammoths" strategy pay off! For the first time, it successfully defeats an army of giants through sheer mammothness.
It even manages to destroy the incoming army of Tirnanog elves, at the cost of most of the army!

Additionally, it seems that Lanka has given up, at least sort of. According to his wishes, we'll be forcehosting if he's the last one left to do the turn.

Point for Caelum!

1200 gold palisades. Couldn't spam them but it barely made a difference because all my troops are 57 recruitment points (except the couple chariots, which are 82) so I could only produce about 4-5 units per fort per turn. Like 7-8 in the capital. Just way too slow.
Also, the nation works great in high heat provinces. The heat aura was a huge help. But as soon as I tried stepping outside into a cold province, the army got obliterated quickly. Being few in numbers actually matches well with the heat aura because enemies surround you, so more of them are affected by the aura at once. But without the aura, and with no armor or helmets, they just melt too quickly on equal ground.
The poison bow archers and slingers that produce a small poison cloud are fucking brutal, though. I managed to mass up a big bunch of those in my first war and they straight up deleted everything. Unfortunately, being so few in numbers made it impossible to cover the flanks properly and a big batch of sacred multiattack lion riders from my first opponent got to them.

All in all, pretty fun and very strong, but simply too expensive. Alone having average forts might have been made the difference

I probably should've just stormed right away, but my paranoia got the better of me.
I'm also once again asking how none of you ever finished off the AI monkes.

I meant to do a little writeup on the elephants but never got around to it
I think investing in twiceborn was a mistake, as fun as huge wight mages are. The proot mages already had incredible bodies for thugging and there's cheaper ways to get higher death, and the gems would've been better spent on staves and stuff like Shade Beasts to fight me in the dark.
Ignoring your sacreds probably was the correct play, though maybe you could've gotten a couple to poke at me if I forgot to leave anyone in the rear. As cool as flying elephants are, they're hideously expensive for what you get.
I was really surprised to not see any soul vortex batteries- casting regen on any elephant troop would let them outheal it pretty much indefinitely, allowing for unlimited evocations and skellyspam and whatnot for a D mage with bodyguards.
Earthquake also would've been a good play early war- I didn't have mass floating yet, and though my cap-only mages do levitate all my others probably would've gotten wrecked.
You also had a conjuration bonus site you never labbed, what the hell, use that shit, get some cheap gnomes and shade beasts or something

That'll do it. I have noticed that the PD is kinda psychotic on forts in particular. I scored a big win early on vs the elephants with a PD dump, and I didn't even have to dump that hard to get a huge army.

You seem to forget the economic side. Ignoring the fact Ziz died early in my expansion period, which led to me needing to buy 30 priests to resurrect him, I had no research monkey. My Death 2 Mage was my research mage, but he was a Tusked One and thus, horribly expensive. The Twice born was useful for turning Death gems (which I was swimming in) into gold (which I lacked).
You saw no impressive magic, like Soul Vortex, Darkness or Shade Beast spam because it would’ve been impossible for me to achieve such a thing in such a short time.
I gunned for Ench 4 specifically for Twiceborn to protect my economy while spamming out mages. Even if I had a pretty aggressive Bless (that you hard countered by being immune to fire and heavy infantry specialist) I never had the money to recruit my flying Elephants.
My biggest mistake that game (besides the first death of my Pretender) was not scouting enough. As a size 7+ Giant nation, my economy is my weak point as is a straight up fight against a Size 3 Nation. I should’ve told Angorburg to go shove it and waited for them to engage you, *then* picking a size and ganking the other.
The map fucked me over too. The fact that you, a non-swimmer nation could cross those islands meant you had a backdoor into my core territory that I simply could not account for.
My biggest mistake, by far, was being over confident. I won the first Nationgen as Cerssith and while I lost the second as Team Helenus, I was certain that Death Giants with 2 Attacks was gonna carry me. It would’ve! If I was a bit more prudent and kept my head down!
Ah but next time, it’ll be different! I’ll be the bio-punk Hoburgs and I’ll show Agorburg how you spam vinemen
>>
>>573503257
That’s Nationgen Early War 101. You bait someone into a fort PD dump and that’s the game. Its the start of a death spiral on certain nations. A Lamia/Giant/Dust Walker/Asmeg nation is completely fucked if they lose their early army to a PD bait. That’s why rushing fort building on border choke points is so important. Maybe even the Nationgen meta.
>>
>>573505738
Ah, fair enough. I figured you were struggling in terms of gold but not quite that hard.
I did have to swim to get onto the bottommost of the islands, but my cap mages float so it saved me a lot on airbreathing items, and once the troops were over I could ferry said items back.

>>
>>573506912
When you pulled out Banefire I knew it was over. You could expand and pillage, while was stuck at lvl 4 Magic.
I won’t sit here and say I couldn’t have made Vortex Regen, Darkness Shades or Earthquake spam while also fighting you off. I did buy 30 priests as I said. As for the Conj site, again, I had Death gems, but my Nature gems were going into Cauldrons because Tusked Ones eat several trees a day per troop. And since I was fighting into your dominion, I had even less supplies and all my troops were dying.
I played badly, I will not deny it, but I was dealt a bad hand as well. As opposed to my Cerssith game which went flawlessly.

With ten turns left in the arena, let's take a look at the current tally!
Our latest newbie is still at the helm with 8 points! I'm not sure if he'll win because he probably has no idea what to do with late game magic, but I think it's remarkable that he's been in pole position for 80% of the game, without ever losing the lead.

Now that there's not many turns left, I want to remind everyone that turn 50 is the last one we will play out, and whoever controls the arena on turn 51 will gain 5 points instead of 1. You might want to start planning for the final battle.

Now that the first great arena is approaching its end, and before launching an MA edition, I want to offer a change of pace.
Have you ever wished you got to use more of the big toys? Do you think titans are cool but too expensive to be used? Well now's the fucking time to go balls to the wall.

Welcome, my friends, to THE GREAT DUEL ARENA.

>one age mod
>debug mod: everything unlocked, +99 every gem per turn, bunch of 999999 mages

Limits
>pretenders must be awake or dormant, non-immobile, non-acquatic
>casting Wish to increase pretender stats is forbidden
>patrolling, PD and global spells are forbidden
>the 999999 mages can't leave the capital, they're only there to craft items
>any transgressions will be swiftly rolled back followed by AI'ing

>20 turns forcehost to ensure everyone wakes up
>3 turns prep time
>randomly arranged 1 on 1 duels only, tournament style. Each winner moves on to the next phase against another winner until a champion is determined
>surviving losers must move immediately to the Pit of Death, where they must fight a great brawl. Last survivor (or last holding the Pit when a champion is determined) gets to fight the champion for a chance to steal final victory
>everyone should use scouts to ferry new items for their god. Province connections will be arranged to make it easy
>"muh afflictions" skill issue, invest in recuperation

No pauses, no rest turns. Just a few crazy, no holds barred fights as a palate cleanser.

Starting the exact day the Great Arena ends, so probably in 10 days or slightly less. Will probably be a very short game, just a handful of turns. A quick palate cleanser before the Great Arena MA Edition.

The worst of the worst are stuff like the Golden Pillar and the Devourer of the Deep (Dagon but with a Monster Fish Head). Golden Pillar causes a map wide earthquake when its killed for the first time and Devourer eats Thrones.
There’s a few other powerful ones, Baphomet is a good example. He’s bugged and his Fallen Angels spawn much more commonly than intended.
But if you mean one that straight up beats anything thrown at it… no?
There’s none that can cast free Wish or free Globals. There’s some elemental pretenders that debuff enemy globals by leeching off of them and some that summon other demi-pretenders over the course of Year 1 and early Year 2 (Earth Made Flesh, Lord of the Wilds) but none that are an insta-win.
A Divinitus Pretender can completely flip its Nation on its head, but much like a Bronze Colossus, there’s counters to them
>>
>>573591029
>Golden Pillar causes a map wide earthquake
How uh, dangerous is that? so to speak
>>
>>573587971
There’s one for Nature, one for Water, one for Demons, one for Undead and maybe more (I haven’t memorised them all yet). Fire Pillar is not a generic one though. Only Deep/Desert/Rhuaxian nations can select it and Fire Resistance is a common thing, since F Evocations are really powerful.
One of my faves is the Celtic/Gaelic/Fae exclusive Unseelie Empress, makes your capital capable of pumping out Unseelie Knights in full Gossamer Plate as well as any other fort under Fata Morgana.
>>
>>573592749
I picked it for muspelheim and having a BLAST scorching the map, gonna check the others
>>
>>573588453
>>573588624
Don’t forget that unless you get lucky, you need Construction Lvl 1 to unlock Magic Item research, so you need to spend a turn on that (just set Magic Research to very easy and pray no one picks Drain 2 or factor that into the grace period)
Be very careful when crafting certain magic items (like the Chest item that buffs Blood and Nature, the Arena Champion Items and Pretender Exclusive Items like the Helmet of Invisibility), you might craft nothing and waste your artifact crafting turn
Do make sure to check each fight, in case someone Wishes for a Dragon or Great Mother and Divine Names them into a dummy-pretender while they buff their actual one
I think that’s about it? Your rules are solid otherwise
>>
>>573592109
Oh you won’t lose more than 10% of your population… in all your Provinces. But that’s like winning the lottery, most will only lose 1-4%. And besides, its an Immobile, it won’t die on its own. Ya need to kick it over.

>need construction 1
Oh shit, I didn't notice that the research technically isn't there. The 99999 dudes simply can cast everything, but they still can't craft.

Let's make it simple: we play turn 1 so everyone can set up the 99999 mage dudes to research and order to start with Construction up to level 9. You have like 3500 research points, so after the 20 forcehosted turns you'll have everything at 8, and whatever you picked (reasonably construction but you do you) at 9.
Note that if you don't specifically say "research 9", you won't research anything to level 9.

>you might craft nothing and waste your turn
Big danger. May ambition be perdition.

>trickery with dummy pretenders
Good catch. Renaming won't be allowed. Pretender names are visible in the server, so it won't be possible to sneak in a fake one.
>>
>>573579310
I ultimately didn't join because I was already in too many games, but there's some really spicy stuff. I was toying around with MA Agartha, and they've got options including one that lets you recruit olms at every fort like you're EA Agartha (and get olm sages too) and another that has a chance to spawn free marble oracles, an item that casts Divine Name on sacred magic beings for free, and gives a mindless magic being commander in their province +1E every month up to 3. Turning your statues into free mages aside, golems with E3 also sound scary as hell.
>>
>>573593506
>>573594828

>>
>>573595795

>>
>>573596049
There must be a fair fight: any casting against others out of battle is not allowed, as are tricks like drowning a province, etc..
Within the battle itself, everything goes.
>>
>>573596049
Bronze Colossus with horror harmonica obviously
>>
>>573596565
Close, but no cigar. You can't morale break most tendies, anyways.
>>
>>573594828
Oh no, you have access to everything at Con 1. But not at Con 0. Everything. And you have access to all Lvl 9 spells at lvl 0 too. Artefacts are still a one-time thing too.
With no Global Magic and Pretender v Pretender only (but assassinations and teleport run-ins still allowed?) the Debug Mages can only intervine in a few ways, but that still includes Soul Slaying via Mind Hunt, Wizard Tower/Three Red Seconds forts (not that it matters it would just be rude), stuff like Wolven Winter to fuck over Heat Power Pretenders (based) , Casting 10 Fires From Afar before Teleporting in the Pretender to stop the victim from turn end healing… maybe other stuff too?
Since only the Pretenders can leave, there’s no Amulet of Disease via undead scout, but the Pretenders themselves could do it, via a Fort to stall the attacker/defender.
>>
Mindless commanders are completely immune to insanity, right?
>>
>>573588453
>>573588624
One last question: is Empowering Allowed? With 99 gems per turn per type, you can eventually learn every magic path
>>
>>573598168
Yes, but Bronze Colossus cannot use Gift of Kurgi
>>
>>573604225
I think the duel format allows for more interesting theorycrafting than a free for all, which would just favor melee blenders above all else.
Make sure there's a good surplus of mages, since blood tendies will need to summon scouts to ferry slaves since teleport gems doesn't work for them.
>>
>>573604579
>>573597002
Looks like my wording was too vague.
>1 on 1 duels only, tournament style
>the 999999 mages [are] only there to craft items
No mindhunting, no fires from afar, etc. etc. The debug mages are only there to craft shit. Teleporting items and gems to the pretender is OK too.
Things that don't directly attack or harm anyone and don't cause a fight, like messing with a province's weather, are OK.
There will only be about 3-4 battles for each winning pretender (since half the contenders are being eliminated every turn, so even with 12 we're quickly going down to 6 > 3 > 1, and then the final battle vs whichever loser managed to climb back out of the Pit). There won't be time to empower much, and pretenders will rarely be in a place with a laboratory so teleporting around also won't be an option except for corner cases, like a loser who retreated to the capital and teleports to the Pit instead of walking in. Empowering shouldn't really be possible out of the 3 preparation turns.

Although now I wonder if it might be better to keep things simple and just make it a basic 12 turns free for all great arena (pretender based, I mean)

>>573604579
That was exactly my idea, but I just noticed that if we are going from battle to battle, there isn't room to change equipment.

So let's adjust: after every duel there is one turn to return to the capital, so you can restock gems and adjust your equipment.
>>
>>573604776
>So let's adjust: after every duel there is one turn to return to the capital, so you can restock gems and adjust your equipment.
That lets you simplify the map a good deal too, instead of a full bracket of provinces you can just have an amount of arenas equal to half the number of players and assign them turn-by-turn.
Oh, and everyone should have a debug wizard patrolling at all times otherwise someone risks getting cucked by a random event sieging their cap with indies the turn before they're supposed to move to the arena.
>>
>>573605089
Agreed.
The debug mages are also stealthy, so you can use them to check out the other battles, so you can see what you're up against the following battles.
>>
>>573605089
Actually, the debug wizard patrol might not be necessary now that I think about it, since people can just set their province defense super high since there's no use for gold.
>>
>>573605718
I feel like nations with shit PD could still get TROGGED if they are very unlucky
>>
>>573605839
True, true. And there's always the risk of Bogus and Friends.
>>
Is there a way to force 0 PD in the arenas? It probably won't matter much but the previous victor getting an extra commander could screw with attack rear and whatnot. And there's nations with mage PD commanders, too.
Setting them all to zero population might work actually. The debug wizard scouts should provide food via their nature path so nobody's tendie will starve.
>>

Discounting wishing for stats, decently high, but you're never going to be on the level of giants and elves in terms of melee blenderness.
It also depends on your definition of normal guy. Chudes have pretty great statlines, as do Man's Wardens.
>>

>considering spamming headdress of the bull and giving one to every mage for an eternally renewing buffalo army

This is too silly and wasteful right?
>>
>>573611163
>>573612738
It works. With Normal Research, you can only forge one artefact per turn and every artefact is unique.
It only takes 6~ turns to reach Cons 9. So I think you do it like this: Turn 0, everyone sets their research goal (could force it to be JUST Construction, but maybe it would be more tactical to be allowed whatever), Force Host till turn 7 or 8, then people pick their second Research Goal, then Force Host to turn 20. At 20, you get your 3 turn prep period and then its duel time.
>>

You could just summon the buffalo cheaper using the national spell they have.
The headdress is for protecting mages from assassins, or for cheesy raiding tactics with thugs

Nice one Ulm! I pulled fireshield thinking it wouldn't do anything and of course I run into howl, then lose because my Tyrants were tarpitted. Plus you had more forces to bring up than I realized due to scouting.

I've got some jank-ass king of the hill thing I've been working on. Connect at koth.blitzserver.net:6100, submit a pretender. That pretender becomes your army. You can recruit some stuff, set up squads/orders and it'll matchmake you against other submitted armies. The battles will be shown in the message log and you can watch them.

Its EA only. No magic, pretenders, cap onlys, forging. At the moment you can basically recruit recruit-anywhere national troops, commanders, and set up your squads and orders. There's also no budgeting so you can recruit infinite troops. Server runs a battle every 30 seconds, picking the least-recently attacking army and the closest ELO army to pair it with.

The leaderboard is also at https://koth.blitzserver.net.

Beta.blitzserver.net is still down. It'll probably be down for an hour or something. Database migrating over.

>TURN 42 OF THE ARENA
Ur goes straight at Abysia. Loses, but takes half of the Abyssian army down, including a painful amount of sacreds and mages.
I had to check how, because the battle looks like a standard "burning ones march forward and delete everything while the air itself is on fire" affair. Turns out Ur's poison arrows strategy paid off wonderfully: the mages got hit by one arrow, then died to poison. Nice.
C'tis keeps running what must be a plot to raise the stock price of chariot building companies. Unfortunately, the basic strategy of "throw more chariots at it and set them on the flank with attack rear", despite consistently managing to run around the army and make it to the ball of wizards in the rear, completely fails against Abyssia's massed short range evocations, which delete the chariots right before they can touch a single mage.
Mictlan is trying a vampires + skelly spam and winds of death approach, but is running against some clash in the deep mechanics of the game. Will post a bit more in a moment

All in all, point for Abysia!

KOTH updated.

Mages now get paths, all research unlocked, you get a huge pile of gems to use.
Battle page on the web UI names units instead of listing them by monster id though I think I might be reading the battle report in the game files wrong anyway, but at least you can see whats in the army now
You get your start sites for cap only recruitment.

>>
is there a guide for magic
>>
>>573780684
not really but what do you need help with most people will give advice here that's why we post
>>
>>573780684
Recruit as many mages as you can to research faster.

Bring as many mages as you can to important battles and have them buff and/or smite the enemy with magic.

Look at what spells are available to your nation and which ones you want to counter your opponent. If you're missing paths to cast them either forge boosters, summon other casters, design your pretender around it or as a last and inefficient solution empower.

Gems are your lifeline, don't waste them, but commit in spending enough of them during large battles to get the edge.

Check fatigue cost of combat spells for efficient scripting. Mages with more paths than required will fatigue less (cost will be 50% for 1 level more, 25% for two level more, etc.), or they can gobble up spare gems for the same effect.

Try to get an idea of battlefield size to have your offensive caster at the right distance from the frontline.

Put your buff casters in the middle of the troops you want to be buffed.

Try shit out, and when you loose a battle review what spells the enemy cast and how much it weighted on your defeat, how you could have countered it, or how efficient it could have been if you did the same.

The fastest way to learn magic is to play MP.
>>

I am retarded, i enabled Divinity_DE compatibility mod first and then DE, am i doing something wrong?
>>
>>573794110
No, Divinitus hasn’t been updated in a bit, neither has the DE compatibility mod. So several pretenders are DE instead of Divinitus. It still partially works, because you need both mods for the Tir na nOg/Eriu exclusive pretender Dan, the Queen and Mother of the Tuatha de Dan, which lets you recruit Sidhe in all Forts.
DE Divinitus is boring in my opinion, not only are several Pretenders missing or nerfed because of compatibility issues, but the options exclusive to the combined version are overpowered

Click on your priests on the map screen and order them to "Call God" You need about 50 points of call god to get your god back. A priest level 1 gets one point from call god, a priest level 2 gets 2 points etc.
Also once you figure out the game you can crush easy ai effortlessly. The ai is easy to abuse once you understand it
>>
>>573807865
A lot of priests set to call god. IIRC you need 50 points and each priest set to call god contributes points equal to their priest level every turn. Once you hit 50 your God will respawn in your cap with a point less in one magic path, usually nature. Also you lose one dominion strength but it's nothing temples can't fix

Yeah i think i am just too much of a pussy to play this game, every screenshot i post here is just me with 40+ researchers in base slowly waiting for the AI to end my misery and killing me due to lack of dominion

The only games i do well is when i have units with inflated stats like muspel
>>
>>573825205
Watch a youtube video and see how people play, that should help.

>The only games i do well is when i have units with inflated stats like muspel
Most veterans in this thread need S-tier nations to win too, so you're fine on that benchmark.
That being said, you'll get better much faster if you practice measured aggression and learn how much abuse your troops can take (and how much mages can multiply their power later on). Try running SP games where you instead recklessly attack into fights you think you might win, adjust your perceptions of relative strength based on the result, and support that with book learning of the stats and DRN tables to understand why the winning units overpower the others.
>>
>>573825205
AI is like a completely different game to MP. I would never touch SP dominions seriously outside of testing builds. The AI cheats even on easy and will never replicate what a human has available to them.
>>
>>573825205
What are you struggling with, anon?
Magic can be a bit hard to get the hang of, often having your mages buff key troops is more efficient at killing the enemy than telling them to cast fireball x5 or whatever.
One of the key elements that lets human size nations fight on the same level as giants is that you can hit more of them at once with AoE buffs.
>>
>>573746927
same
>>
>>573825205
Are you a pussy or do you just not know what your mages are capable of doing?
Buff strats are the easiest to figure out how many mages you should bring to a fight, since the buff spells have an aoe you can use to estimat how many troops thry can buff in the first two rounds of a battle before they charge forth.
Take gift of giant strength with 20 aoe. If you can cast it round 1 you know your mage can buff approx 40 squares worth of troops on hold and attack before they start moving. Thats 120 size 3 units that are buffed by 1 mage.

How do these guys actually work?
They land a hit then retreat? They take a single HP of damage, and then retreat? Or do they just desert after the fight?
>>
>>573830706
They disappear after the fight, if they dealt damage or took damage.
You use them as a cost effective solution/deterrent against enemy elites. Gladiators are extremely strong for their price, but you can't snowball just making them obviously since they only last 1 fight that they do anything in.
>>
Do you just burn out after enough turns? Even on the smallest map against the AI I'm feeling like I can't be arsed to finish the game and I don't want to enter an MP game if I'm not going to give it my all.
>>
>>573830706
They do a single action, do some damage then leave.. if they can
>>
>>573830958
I am currently on 3 MP games and its going like this
>Arena is short, has been fun not needing to think
>being a piece of shit as toxandria, not trying to win
>being a piece of shit with my big doggo, not trying to win
>waiting for pretender arena to get my shit kicked in because what i cooked up is probably not gonna work
>>
>>573830958
It's normal to feel like that against the ai. The ai is dumb and never forces you to be creative.
When playing singleplayer you should lower the throne count and just fight the enemy till you want to wrap it up easily.
If you survived to endgame in mp the turn timers usually get increased as the turns become longer, helping to mitigate burnout. Just dont join too many mp games at once
>>
>>573831005
They follow normal routing rules as any other unit in battle. They disappear after the battle if they did something
>>
>>573830958
Just play R'lyeh
>>
>>573830958
Late game fatigue fucking sucks, I get it too often
>>
>>573830958
I don't even start singleplayer games that I can't complete in 1-2 sittings anymore. So like 6 max. Multiplayer is a better experience overall and planning/strategy is actually rewarding.
>>
>>573831210
>>573831320
>>573831702
>>573831782
Okay glad to hear I'm not just getting filtered, I probably WILL get my shit pushed hard in MP but I'm at least more interested in trying it now. Because yeah the AI is just dumb and there isn't much satisfaction of wading through the whole game beyond just seeing if a certain strategy will work.
>>
>>573832651
Game's just too slow and micro intensive for singleplayer. It burns you out.
MP matches are perfect. Early game turns are frustratingly brief, but soon they take a sweet 10-15 minutes and you can actually spend a lot more time thinking and planning. It feels a lot more satisfying. The AI also neither surprises you with good strategies, nor is it able to counter proper things you throw at it.
I find three MP games is the sweet spot. One in early game, one in mid game, one in late game. Don't join too many games at once, it can be quite a time drain when you've got multiple big battles to plan.
>>
>>573832651
Unless you are lucky you likely wont have to deal with turn fatigue in multiplayer for quite sometime.
It can hit pretty hard in the very lategame, particularly on nations with heavy micro but its still far more interesting than playing against the ai

Harassment defense penalties mean getting outnumbered is very, very bad unless you've got protection so high nothing can hurt you.

>>
>>573833756
If you want your powerful wizard god to stand toe to toe against hordes of enemy units, you need to craft it items using construction research and or script it to cast buffs on itself mostly with conjuration and enchantment research.
No matter how strong you make a single unit though, later in the game somebody will find a way to counter it with mages
>>
>>573836114
I meant alteration not conjuration, but conj does have a couple of good buffs like summon earthpower

One of the coolest glow-up in Divinitus, maybe top 10 most fun Pretender Options.
>>
>>573838101
Yeah 5 and 6 have been a step down in terms of music. I still enjoy them as background music while playing but it's just not the same.

I hope they realize this for the next game (even if it's not a Dominions), surely they have more money now than they did at the time of 3/4.

All right, let's go.

I chose Caelum for a simple reason : I wanted sacred archer for a meme cold cloud bless with the idea that it would be easy to grab points in the early/mid game. The fact that most troops have magic weapons was also a huge boon with Ubar around, and to maximize bless points and site searching I went for a basic rainbow dormant with huge production scales to spew out as many troops as I could, taking misfortune and drain for the first time as I thought it wouldn't have too much impact with the limited number of provinces and the easy research (I think I was right but I'll wait to see the graphs).

The plan was to use the bird guys mobility to snipe commanders while raining magical arrows on the early enemy rooster when the counters are not online. Bless was otherwise tailored at countering Ubar which I thought would be the biggest menace early on. I actually did not plan for much more as I created my pretender in a hurry and I thought I wouldn't be able to play late turns at ease due to upcoming real life commitments.
>>
>>573888428

What went well :
- Pretender did what he was supposed to and I had a decent gem income I think, with crosspaths that got moderately useful, even if level 3 magic is not enough to move into late game magic without jumping through that many hoops.
- Mammoths are the real MVP. I could have won bigger by fielding more of them early on, compared to more mundane troops that never were able to hold against all those giants and sacred and anything stronger than a basic human.
- Scales worked as expected. Cash was flowing for most of the game, well enough to counterbalance misfortune.
- I managed to expand and fort+lab+temple all five provinces within the first year while doing several attempts at grabbing the arena. It didn't work in the end but I'm satisfied with my development. Caelum fliers + mammoths made battles against AI a trivial matter.
- The Blizzard warriors archers and their fatigue shots aimed at large enemy monsters worked well. By far the best troop alongside our woolly pachyderm friends.
- Casting Raven feast on the Arena got me over 10 death gems per turn.
- I'm happy to have been able to cast level 9 evoc wipes at least once. Got wasted on regen elves but hey, you don't get to do it every game.
>>
>>573888485

What went welln't :
- Caelum line troops suck in main stack battle. I sent hundreds over hundreds of iceclads and raptors and even those sacred without wings and I'm not sure they killed more than 15 guys all combined. They would have been terrific for guerilla warfare and being a major pain to any opponent in a regular game but no dice here.
- Same for thugs : there are no chassis with above average stats or durability so against the large armies roaming the arena it was hopeless.
- Caelum national summons are expensive and requires either D or S income, of which Caelum has none and my discovered magic sites didn't help. The limited gem income meant they stayed unaffordable. I really underestimated how little gems I would get overall, as my plan included moving to summons and kitted SC by mid game but there were never going to be enough magic dough available to make viable anytime.
- Bless was spread too thin to benefit both melee and archers and didn't do much for either, not that it was a good plan to start with. I should have done the obvious and get in with a titan with combat build and shield it with mammoth and blizzard warriors, who were much more efficient than the sacred Kavi archers anyway.
- Got fucked hard by Astral Corruption. In the end it is what put me out of the race altogether, so well played Mictlan.

Still got 4 points so I'm not unhappy for a first time playing Caelum in a new format, furthermore considering it is only my sixth MP game. Plus main stack battles have always been my weakness so it made for good training. See you all in the arena turn 50.
