Modding games is a humiliation ritual. By making and using mods, you're inadvertently helping AAA games sell more copies. But worst of all, you're doing it for free and taking it very seriously.

devs love nothing more than tinkering on projects. they don't actually care if the game is good or even just comes out. to them the creative process is all that matters. and phils hands-off approach suited them perfectly.

literally what was stopping bethesda from making a game like 1:1 sized or even 3/4 the size of fallout 4, not adding new features, just refine what you have of the current engine, and dropping an ES and fallout spin off between es6 and f5? 20 years (likely longer) between titles is basically looking for a new audience at that point. this wasnt mismanagement it was like intent to fail

BREAKING NEWS: FALLOUT NEW VEGAS 2 WILL BE CRINGE AND GAY
>source: some literal who in the algorithm
>>
>>573496053
I mean… should we just forgo pattern recognition because some anti-Woke people are cringe? Look at Veilguard and the Saints Row reboot. These series were originally normal. Then they change the tone completely into gay shit. Saints Row was a little gay starting with the third one, but it still maintained it's normal feeling, but the gay stuff was presented from a different standpoint. It was done knowing it was comedic, rather than done to be the norm. Leftists seem to think normal masculinity is unhealthy, and that men should be completely emotional open at all times, even though that can be exploited, especially by women.
>>
>>573496053
>literally everything coming out in the past 10 years is cringe and gay

Any new fallout from obsidian would be bad, not because any talent from the studio (what little is left) but because it'd be making a game with the dumbest people on the planet hovering over you the entire time.

Let me know when they confirm the game's being made on unreal 6 and will have heavy a.i. integration.

I guess it really will be that they release the Capital Wasteland (it'll be barebones as fuck because everyone got fired before they could finish it) and then they'll just keep it on life support forever.
No Skyline Valley rework
No Burning Springs parts 2 and 3
That'll be it

You know I was actually starting to have a bit of hope for 76 before this year. Then all the patches so far have been nothing and now this

I really do wonder just how empty the Capital Wasteland will be. I think they got a good amount of it done, judging by how clearly they left the main game to rot all year, but now they'll need to wrap it up with their skeleton crew

New Vegas 2 gonna be like:
>"Gender… Gender always changes…"
>>
>>573554027
The game will be about controlling the long-lost Archimedes-T satellite. It fires an energy beam from space that changes your gender if it hits you.
>>
>>573553065
Okay, I will rephrase. NPCs and promotional images do not give a fuck about statistical effectiveness of their gear. They are given gear by levelled lists or by the promo image creator and that's what they use. It is not a player who has specced into light or heavy armor and tries to get the full set bonus. You may as well ask why he isn't wearing the Imperial helmet he picked up in Helgen. It wasn't in Helgen because it isn't a player.

Ice breaker and Cryolator sound like they will be fun. Icemen's won't be adding cryo to everything it seems which is probably for the best.

The reason Cait is irish is Emil is a plastic paddy. He is obsessed with including Irish characters and things in every game he touches
He no doubt found out Fo1 there is a joke irish encounter and took that as sigh its completely canon to stick irish characters in the games.

The reason London is the only one that came out is because it's the only one used explicitly as a portfolio piece instead of a passion project.
This is also why it's extremely soulless.

thats nonsense. All the big mods are being used in people resumes and portfolios for years now.
The artists that worked on f4nv for instance have it on their portfolio they worked on it. Never mind none of these mods have actually released, Its a massive con and grift basically. A revolving door of troons that all claim they worked on these projects that have never been released so they can get into the industry.

It is kind of a trap, I agree.
That's part of why I'm planning on taking my contributions and turning them into a legally distinct VN with stats because that's less never-ever and will be more rewarding creatively in the long run.
There is this fantasy of "what if I made Fallout with africanamericanjack and sex workers" that drives a lot of people to stuff like this, and many projects just become a stew of overinflated immature egos, grifting, proselytizing, and sunk-cost-driven development.
It is what it is.
I do think smaller mods accomplish more in terms of sharing ideas and enjoyment over these landmark, monolith pieces.
My stint as a BG3 modder felt good, and it also feels good to be done and away from it.

Soft woke, I would say. The same way Baldur's Gay 3 is. Everyone is kind of fruity and Californian.
It's also how all the characters are soft and agreeable, and the only way you know you're supposed to like them is that they're "wholesome".
It's a stepping stone to the overt, in your face type of woke that Veilguard is.
It's been that way since Pillars 2. Used to be more under wraps before, but you could sense it even in Pentiment with the heckin wholesome gay monks, heckin wholesome black guy in a random German village, etc.

Any linux users here? I know I'm asking in the niche site for a niche old game for a niche OS, but I would gladly appreciate any help.

On the other hand; could I just mod the game on my old windows laptop; check if it runs; then copy and paste the folder to my steamapps one in my linux system? Or do some of the patchers like the 4GB or NVSE or whatever "install" something else somewhere else besides the game forder?

The first fallout game you could do a same-sex marriage and romances but they weren't just there.
Fallout 2 had the first in game same sex marriage that was just there. Also you're fighting the remnants of the US government who are racial purists.
Fallout 3 had some extreme racism points (necropolis, Tenpenny) and the same racial purists.
Fallout NV had 2 gay companions, had critiques of a dozen ideologies, with a black guy lecturing you for 10 minutes in a DLC about how to interpret the game.
Fallout 4 was the least woke of the series. It was just anti-slavery
Fallout 76 has some rather pro-commie ideas in it, between the communist front business feeding the poor.

As another Settlement project, I've been dressing up provisioners so they're themed for their supply line. Settler or synth in BOS gear goes to Boston Airport, Atom marine armor goes to the Kingsport Lighthouse, etc.

can't see it too well, but the one on the left is wearing an assault gas mask and some modded Minutemen outfits and bags

got tired of the synths and was just spawning in generic settlers, took 20-30 tries to get a Ghoul to send to the Slog

So far, 99% of my supply lines are from the Castle outward. I think that connects all settlement workshops, technically, right? Might be nice to have some more ghouls radiating from the Slog, to simulate tarberry deliveries.

Oh, one benefit of the synth provisioners: they're part of the Robot Home Defense mod, so they don't count toward Population nor resource expenditure!

What this image ignores is that the power point in question wasn't "here is why you're game is bad", it was "here is how you used the engine inefficiently, and how you can do stuff easier the next time" because the orignal intent was that Obsidian would do another NV like spinoff at some point.

I hope Obsidianout 2 is more roleplay friendly and less railroady like Skyrim(or modded Skyrim since vanilla is also kinda railroady)

Like I can go straight to Vegas and clean out the casinos and stuff but then House and the factions are all breathing down my neck. This wouldn't be a problem with a post-game, so maybe I just want Obsidian to be allowed to finish development of Obsidianout 2.

If you watch Sawyer's youtube videos, which I recommend if you're into game design, he's extremely autistic when it comes to RPG mechanics and systems, and player freedom, and usually he forced himself to cut out most of the things he wants to put in otherwise the game would never release. He mentions how when making FNV, "higher ups" want him to streamline the reload animations for a lot of the revolvers and lever action rifles, and he told them that was non-negotiable because he wanted for the player to be able to role play as a cowboy gunslinger if they wanted to, and after a ton of fighting they eventually let him keep the slower reload animations. He honestly seems like the perfect choice for Fallout right now after 76. New Vegas was also supposed to have a post game and it was pretty near done, with tons of voices lines and scripted events finished, but it was cut.
>>
>let him keep the slower reload animations
so he was the one responsible for making the combat suck balls
>>
>>573628583
You don't have to use revolvers and lever action rifles anon. You get a 9mm as your first gun and it has the fastest reload in the game. The choice is always yours, because FNV is an RPG and not a looter shooter like Bethesda's games.

I don't have AR2 to make a patch, but I made a standalone version of the Capital Wasteland Flamer from the Point Lookout mod. I added PA backpack support, a palette swap for the upgraded napalm tanks mod, and edited the 3rd person reload animations to use the reload sound from 3/NV instead of the vanilla 4 reload sound, which didn't fit the animation. I've posted it before but this version includes the replaced reload sound.

That was actually a reference to a very real idea that some dipshits had in the 50's of using nukes to strip mine. Everyone is celebrating, albeit justifiably, a bit too early (I'm guilty of this too). Schreier has admitted that development is still extremely early, and despite Avowed 2's cancellation, a skeleton crew is still working on the game under Microsoft's nose because it was likely close to completion and they hope to pitch it again to Microsoft one day. This is just the first round of layoffs, we have no idea if the staff working on the next Fallout game will be impacted again later this year. It's still incredibly early for this new Fallout game, and we don't know if plans will change later.

Rumors suggest that Bethesda's lead artist for 3&4, Starfield, and lead dungeon artist for Oblivion/Skyrim, Istvan Pely, has been laid off (although I don't have a source beyond rumors). If that's the truth, then Bethesda will never be the same company again. The same guy who pitched the idea of the Pip-Boy being wrist-mounted, designed the architecture and buildings of Fallout 3 and 4, designed popular dungeons like Blackreach, Sky Haven Temple, and The Throat of the World in Skyrim is now potentially gone.

We're in a situation where if Xbox decides to lay off more employees from Obsidian, or if Obsidian finishes this project but it's unpopular and they get laid off still, Fallout is going back to a Bethesda which probably won't be around in the next 3-5 years, or if they are, likely won't be filled with the same kind of veteran talent that they used to be, which means that the fate of CE is sealed. Instead, Xbox seem reliant on H1B contractors, who only know UE5. Future Fallout games may look more like Oblivion Remastered or possibly even worse, or they might not even get finished. If that happens, the series is back in the auction house. I don't know who might own it after that. Hopefully Larian, because I know for a fact that anyone under Microsoft (InXile/Obsidian) is not making it out of this, that's just the sad truth.

Normally I would assume if obsidian is working on a new fallout it'd just be a remaster that's the same tier as oblivion's, but if the studio really was gutted that badly to restructure for a fallout game it has to be a new one.

And while I still don't believe a studio that wounded can make something particular great, I'll at least be interested in the setting and technical stuff. As in, bet they want it to tie into the tv show in some way so it'll be in either colorado or even california.
>>
>>573656016
Honestly, I could see them avoiding Colorado and California specifically TO avoid the TV show. Maximus' actor has said Nolan has like 5-6 season plan. These seasons tend to take 1.5 years or so to come out. So by the time we reach S5-6 they'd still be making the show when the game comes out. Bethesda likely would want Obsidian to do something elsewhere so it doesn't conflict with whatever Nolan is doing in the later parts of the show.

Something like a game set in Seattle, or possibly New Orleans.

They wouldn't get Obsidian for a remaster. They can literally just get the jeets that did the Oblivion one for that, it'd be 10 times cheaper too. Also the studio was not gutted. Id lost 139 employees out of 200. 70% of the studio is gone. Zenmiax Online lost 213 out of around 400 employees, 50% of the studio. Those were gutteed. Obsidian has lost 52 out of around 300, that's bad but not really gutted. Even if thy lost another 50 employees in the next round of layoffs, that's still a studio of 200 people.

They're most likely gonna set it somewhere other than the TV show. If they want the game out as soon as possible, then there's no way Asha is going to approve them needing to coordinate and possibly wait for the TV show writers. That would add another year at least on the project since they're barely making Season 3 and it's not out until 2027.

I am forever swimming around, amidst this ocean world we call home. My limbs grow weak and weary as my eyes drift skyward in defeat. I remember how warm the earth felt, as I lived and breathed next to her beating heart. I remember enough to keep searching through an ocean of tears, raised to astronomical depths. My dreams offer solace, where I return to distant, faded times. Through trees entwined with cool autumn air, my sorrow is lured by fragrant, bittersweet memories. I am at home as much as my world and consciousness allow. I remember falling into the most beautiful lake I've ever experienced. She swallowed me whole, like a droplet, and I was enraptured and enwombed within her bliss. The lonely windswept desert sky of my soul was filled by her luminous stars and warmed by her sunlit radiance. I gazed downward in awe and saw it all reflected in the shimmering ripples dancing and playing about the surface. It appeared to me as real as the very wonders it was reflecting. I stepped forward to prove to no one and everyone that they were, by belief. For an aching instant I was betwixt the two and the summation. Confusion befell me and I fell through, only to realize I hadn't entered the lake, I had left it. With all of my remaining life I howled at the heavens and collapsed, like a star on the shores of my youth, as my life's breath wandered away from the home it had harbored. I have been drowning on dry land ever since.

The Enclave has a split where President Eden decides to poison Project Purity. Colonel Autumn goes "What? No. That's stupid." and holes up at the Jefferson Memorial. Eden's faction gets destroyed by Raven Rock being exploded and Autumns side gets destroyed by the Brotherhood. So you completely wipe the eastern Enclave and then can choose to poison the water or not. I don't really consider that "siding" with the Enclave, but opinions could differ, I guess.

Like this is what i wish Fallout was, just mechanically.

My dream Fallout
>a couple decades after the war
>radiation levels barely low enough to survive on the surface
>all of manhattan island to explore
>be fresh grunt in reilly's rangers-type outfit
>go on missions in the ruins of NYC
>scouting locations, scavenging for supplies, mapping routes
>2-3 man squad of medic, coms officer, gunner/marksman
>typical Fallout RPG fare of story/choices/twists and turns
>gear and weapon crafting and upgrade system like in 4
>basic survival mechanics like eat, drink, sleep, meds, injuries
>weather affects monster behavior and spawns
>ghouls, mutants and raiders of various types as enemies
>partly proc gen loot and scavenging system
>central park as woods area with mutated wildlife so it doesn't get too stale
>everything else is streets, alleys, highrise buildings and sewers or metro tunnels
>non-hostile life is rare and mostly clustered in 2-3 heavily fortified town-like locations
>information is currency in this barter system
>you can find new recruits in those town locations or scavenging in the ruins
>recruits can become squad mates
>squad mates can become companions
>companions can become more
>affinity system
>no friendly mutants or ghouls
>what if metro was an RPG really

My ideal game would be STALKER, third person, character creator with Ghost Recon Breakpoint gameplay. The kind of modern military TPS that they used to make in the 2010s. And the only reason i have over 1000 hours in FO4, minus 150-200 hours afk/alt-tabbed, is that some overhauls can take me at least somewhat close to that vision.
>>
>>573792730

Depends, i would need to find a way to have FEV labs in the north east. Especially one that makes sense. PA would be difficult to implement since much of the game would be indoors and underground. Maybe locationally restricted to outdoor areas.

It doesn't have to be this way. I think the wearable version is just fine. Either way just get rid of the fusion core system please. I'm counting on you.
>>
>>573489664
Isn't he just a guntuber
>>
>>573798449
>So you're going with the Fallout 4 style PA?
Because i think it's damn good, the implementation is just a terrible half measure. You have this legit tank of a suit, 100% endgame gear, that for some reason is easily available all over the commonwealth and, in a feeble attempt at balance, is constantly on the brink of breaking apart. I think Todd just loved the PA redesign so much that he wanted players to have it all the time but he also didn't want to make them gods so they nerfed it into the ground.
>>
>>573790287
>>573789409
I mean they had it coming for long time, sitting on popular franchise without any new releases, instead releasing game breaking bugs for existing ones
>>
>>573799376
That's why I'm relying on you to fix it in your future game. I think the fusion core and durability shit is just busywork. And yes you should realistically only get 1 suit of power armor per model, and they should be very hard to obtain.
That "wow factor" of the concord mission really cheapened power armor. You got late game gear and late game enemies made weak just for a 'cool' moment.
Someone here once said you should've had your suit broken up in that fight, and you'd spend a large part of the game trying to fix it before you can finally use it again. I think that's neat.
>>
>>573801345
>Someone here once said you should've had your suit broken up in that fight, and you'd spend a large part of the game trying to fix it before you can finally use it again. I think that's neat.
That was me. And anons hated it because they thought it would be gating gear behind story/quest progression. That everything should be obtainable even to players that never do any quests.

Wow you've got some ideas frfr on gawd
>anons hated it because they thought it would be gating gear behind story/quest progression
That would be an easy thing to fix though. Following the story would just give you a straightforward path to fixing it.
But if you don't care for that, you'll have to look harder for the materials or parts to fix it. Or have a different suit hidden in some fucked up part of the glowing sea.
>>
>>573766273

>>
unironically loved that you could start with a minigun so early
in previous titles heavy weapons usually would get shat on until hours into the game
>>
>>573802704
>Following the story
I think the criticism was that PA should be accessible by roaming instead of requiring any quests or NPC interactions. Which i think is bullshit because i want a narrative in my world, not just a wasteland to roam around in where i don't ever have to interact with anyone.
>>
>>573803231
Yes but as a result, the minigun is extremely weak because they couldn't just give you an endgame weapon in the first 2 hours. It's supposed to be a weapon you'd be scared to encounter, but it's just a big peashooter.

Fair but I think you should have it both ways. We already have an example of this, you get a decent suit of T-60 power armor if you help Paladin Danse and join the brotherhood.
You should be able to get one by picking an ally, or by scrounging one up by yourself if you don't care for any specific faction.

>>573804069
>getting an explosive or wounding minigun is basically GG
And it's pure luck. Not only that but stronger heavy weapons would be really easy to balance. Just make ammo hard or impossible to get early game. But i think Todd really wanted the player to have access to all tools from the start and leveling up just makes them stronger.
>>
>>573804069
that's mostly a problem with legendaries that scale on how many bullets you can fire which is why I never use it when I find one on anything that's not a slow gun

>You should be able to get one by picking an ally, or by scrounging one up by yourself if you don't care for any specific faction.
Yep and i have had a lot of criticism gating any rewards behind quests or choices because "it forces players to make that choice to get that gear." which usually only comes from players who value power over roleplaying their character.

Yeah they really fucked PA with having it in so early. Would have made 100% more sense to give each faction minus the railroad a suit of PA thats unique to them. Like the minutemen having a suit of t45 after completing old guns or the institute and the x01 with the unique paint. Functionally the way DR works means the difference between different sets is marginal at best.

What are the chances the devs are too old for this now and are just out of touch at this point? Like if a writer made a book and were asked to make a sequel nearly 20 years later the result will be wildly different if he were to make a sequel right after the first book.
I would not be surprised if it's just too little too late at this point.

You have to consider that maybe it's not Obsidian that's changed, but the audience itself. Zoomers are the most infantile audience for these kinds of games, they're not going to maintain interest hearing about something realistic and grim like rape, slavery or torture. Even back in 2009, the biggest games on the market like Call of Duty and Gears of War were games that marketed themselves as dark and gritty. Now those same games make money selling bright neon pink skins and Rick and Morty bundles. Not saying those games were ever deep to begin with, but the tolerance for interesting subject matter has decreased rapidly these past 10-15 years noticeably.

Obsidian could've even probably gotten away with it a couple of years ago when they were making smaller games like PoE and Tyranny, but now that they're making Fallout? Who knows.

Chasing any particular audience or trend with a game that takes close to a decade to make is retarded anyway.
>>
>>573809396
>You have to consider that maybe it's not Obsidian that's changed
Not him, but this idea here actually relates to an issue I see with Obsidian, and why their games post NV haven't done well. While I disagree that the audience has changes, I agree that Obsidian hasn't changed... and that's sort of the issue.

The games that are often considered Obsidian's best(KOTOR2, NWN2, FNV) are all sequels to someone else's game, and were popular due to the franchise, gameplay, and setting, someone else made previously. In instances where the franchise itself sucked, Obsidian's games also sucked(See Dungeon Siege 3). All of their attempts to make an orignal IP have flopped going all the way back to Alpha Protocol since even that game felt like they tried to do James bond as a setting, and failed, and tried to copy the gameplay of Mass effect, and failed, leading to a game that still felt like a worse sequel to someone else's IP/game. This issue continued all the way through Pillars/Avowed, Tyranny, and Outer worlds.
-Their games have no unqiue spin to them(they lck the I-sim elements of Bethesda, the cinematic nature of CDPR, or the modern CRPG style of Larian/Owlcat).
-The basic mechanics they do add simply don't work right(faction rep, faction armor, ammo types, iron sights, etc in NV)
-They're full of things like weapons, perks, spells, traits, flaws, etc. but almost none of them are meaningful
-They are stuck in the early 90swriting style of just having NPCs exposit everything to the player, making talking to NPCs feel like a chore, and since this detail isn't in the world itself it makes the worlds feel hollow
-Obsidian has areal bad issue with beating people over the head with whatever "message" they are trying to push in their games. Which makes them feel poorly done, and more like a lecture.

They just kind of suck at making games.

>All of their attempts to make an orignal IP have flopped
Pillars was so successful it got a sequel and a larger budget 3D iteration in the same universe in the form of Avowed (and they were allegedly working on a sequel), the whole thing started on Kickstarter so it was funded by fans before they got acquired. The game essentially saved Obsidian when they were struggling to find a publisher. The Outer Worlds was successful too, it surpassed 5 million units sold which for a game with a AA budget like this meant that they made a hefty profit, and their publisher stated that it exceeded expectations.

Their games being "flops" is massively overstated. They make niche games in a niche market, striking success even 50% of the time is good. Obsidian have more hits than misses in a genre long past its golden age. I won't talk about anything else because, to be quite frank, I liked Tyranny/PoE and thought that they were fun pastimes.

>Pillars was so successful it got a sequel
Pillars got a sequel because they crowd funded it, not because Pillars 1 made so much money they could just make it. And we see what happened with Pillars 2, its flopped, selling like 1/10 the number of copies it needed to break even. This being after tyranny under performed after people saw that ti was repeating all of the same design and world building mistakes and Pillars 1, and Pillars 2 flopped after people saw, once again, that it had all the same issues during development.

Outer worlds 1 on the other hand only sold well because they marketed as "FROM THE PEOPLE WHO BROUGHT YOU NEW VEGAS!" and the general consensus was that Outer worlds 1 was mid. Even the generally pro-Obsdian fanbase of Jewtubers like MrMattyPlays didn't like Outer Worlds 1 to the point even he's had to comment on how even his fans didn't like it several times. Avowed and Outer Worlds 2 massively under performed after people saw all the same issues there. This has nothing to do with RPGs being part their prime. CDPR, Larian, Owlcat, Bethesda, Warhorse, are all succeeding unlike Obsidian. Even Starfield has had more players, and more retention, then Pillars 1, 2, Tyranny, Pentiment, Outer worlds 1, Avowed, and Outer worlds 2 combined last time I saw someone compare known numbers.

Obsidian just makes kinda shit games. They are the plain oatmeal of game devs.

>Pillars got a sequel because they crowd funded it
It reached its goal within 24 hours, that's not exactly what you'd call an unsuccessful IP.
>not because Pillars 1 made so much money they could just make it
It had sold 700,000 units within its first year.
>And we see what happened with Pillars 2, its flopped, selling like 1/10 the number of copies it needed to break even
The budget for PoE2 was much higher because it had full voice acting, so it had to sell more to break even. I have no idea how you came to the conclusion that it underperformed due to "world building" either, the game was well-received critically and reviews repeatedly highlight the strengths of its worldbuilding. It flopped because the hype for PoE1 and a revival of the genre died out while competitors started producing games with larger budgets and a wider scope. Sawyer always talks about this when it comes to Larian and DOS2, which came out a year earlier.
>and the general consensus was that Outer worlds 1 was mid
On the internet, where negativity bias is left to fester while reasonable, job-having people move on to play the next game and don't bother arguing about it.
>This has nothing to do with RPGs being part their prime. CDPR, Larian, Owlcat, Bethesda, Warhorse, are all succeeding unlike Obsidian.
CDPR and Bethesda don't make CRPGs. Objectively, their games are too consolized to be a *computer RPG*. Larian are no strangers to underperforming games either, Divinity 2 almost killed the studio. As for Owlcat and Warhorse, they haven't really made that many games. Owlcat have made three games, Warhorse have made two.

>>573814565
>We weren't talking about CRPGs specifically, just RPGs in generals
It's pointless to talk about RPGs in general because you can't accurately compare the sales of something like Final Fantasy or Persona to Starfield or Pillars. They have completely different markets. The Skyrim audience aren't buying Pillars or Tyranny. Obsidian are first and foremost, a CRPG studio, or at least that's the role they occupy in the market now since PoE. The comparisons to Larian and Owlcat were far more apt than to Bethesda or CDPR. Outer Worlds and Avowed aren't CRPGs, but one of them is an offshoot of a CRPG series, the other was the first attempt at capturing a market that Obsidian hasn't interacted with since 2010, when Bethesda was publishing New Vegas.

Dishonest framing. The Outer Worlds was their most successful game financially, so they chased the ARPG market. It wasn't a wise decision, but you can't say that they failed in both markets. They had success making CRPGs and success making ARPGs, some unsuccessful games don't detract from that.

It had momentum and hype behind it for similar reasons to PoE. Obsidian are known for having Black Isle devs, so they exploited that in the marketing. People bought PoE because they were promised a game like Icewind Dale or the OG Fallout games, people bought TOW because of OG Fallout and New Vegas. Anyone who is a fan of Obsidian or interested in their games probably knows their history, the average CRPG gamer is probably about 40 years old.

Not him, but the issue isn't the engine, it was never the engine, and people blaming the engine have no idea what they're talking about.

The issue isthat Bethesda games spend A LOT of system resources doing things like rendering, and doing the physics, for thousands of objects in the game world, as well as keeping track of where all of these items got moved, that other games don't have to deal with, and can thus spend on pure graphical fidelity.

If Bethesda stopped doing all the world sim stuff they do, they COULD make a game that looks as "modern" as any other game on Creation, because they could then spend all those resources on pushing the graphical power of the game instead of world sim.

Its has all the features a good rpg would need - blame solely lays on the creation team that decided to phone it in and gave us whole one quest that isnt KLR and two major cities and filled the rest of the game with KLR shit and settlement building.

Not him, but I'd disagree it has a good setting.

Cyberpunk has an edgy setting, in a 16 year old, high school, emo/goth sitting at his desk, writing in his journal, about his fan fic setting is edgy. Just going "everything sucks, everyone is miserable, there is no real way to get ahead, no one is eer happy, and there are no good endings" isn't a good setting, it isn't an emotional setting, it isn't thought provoking, its just childishly edgy. In the same way, though not to the same extreme, that Warhammer 40K is a childishly edgy setting.

No it's not, if it was fallout 2 would never have happened and it's really funny that any human being could argue it. But to be fair no one has ever argued that in good faith, not even you so who cares?

Also really interesting that the people on the internet that argued that because of the first season of the tv show seemed to say it less and less as season 2 went on? Wonder why? Could it be because they mentioned other ncr locations or even showed the ncr military is still around and inspires hope, or because the reason shady sands was blown up was because 1 dude got cucked to memory death and wasn't the result of a war?

Mostly that last one I assume. "war never changes" yeah man, I too get so mad at my wife leaving me for a woman I decide that everyone must die, human nature and all that.

-Fallout 1: Tribes and small city states that, at the end, of into a nation
-Fallout 2: Nation's expansion, and conflict with other powers
-Van Buren: Collapse of empires/nation's destruction as it over reaches.

>>
>>573851941
Which is still just a rumor and even if they started preproduction last week it's going to be better part of a decade until that game comes out. With New Vegas Obsidian had the advantage of using the Fallout 3 "Rust and Rubble" asset library which allowed them to make the game in 18 months in the first place, they don't have that this time. Fallout 4s assets looked like ass 10 years ago and haven't exactly aged well. Same goes for 76. Maybe they can use Starfields framework but they would still have to make thousands of models and textures themselves. That is years and years of full production and Obsidian doesn't have access to 10 asset farms for outsourcing. This game, if it is more than a rumor, is going to take a while to come out.

A rumor fed by conjecture. It would explain literally everything bad or wrong about Fallout 3.

It really wouldn't since Fallout 3 already explains why eveything is the way it is even 200 years after the bombs, which is no different than Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics, and what was going to be in Van Buren, where most of the post war world is still hundreds of miles of nothing with a small handful of settlements spread across a blasted nuclear wasteland.
>>
>>573854578
>Fallout 3 already explains why eveything is the way it is
It really doesn't tho. There is no food anywhere, yet you can find pre-war food everywhere, people living in literal rust shacks after 200 years and the world looks like the bombs dropped rather recently. All of that would be explained with a planned, but scrapped, reboot of the timeline. Especially considering we did have brand new man-made structures, buildings and cars in Fallout 1 and 2. No, Fallout 3 is set shortly after the collapse.

the tv show (forgive me) illustrates that factions all over just keep nuking each other
so civilization may have risen and fallen several times in two centuries

>>573855158
It does
-D.C. got super hit during the war, resulting in the water is irradiated far beyond the rest of the country, to the point normal purification methods don't work worth a shit. Water being THE fundamental backbone for civilization, and critical to large scale farming.

-We clearly see how they get food.
--Rural settlements like Arefu, Canterbury Commons, and the Regulators, are shown raising Brahamn for milk and meat, which they trade to other settlements
--There are even several packs of wild Brahamn around the wasteland for people to poach from.
--Hunters are seen across the wasteland hunting everything from wild dogs, to Yao guai, mire lurks, and mole rats, for meat to trade.
--Mutfruit grows in the Capital Wasteland
--There was a giant Mirelurk farm and processing center under the anchorage war memorial
--Rivet city gets mirelurk meat from the mirelurks constantly trying to infest he lower levels
--We also know that Rivet city trade fresh produce like apples, carrots, pears, and potatoes, to other settlements in exchange for scrap to fix up the town,
--Food from the outside, like Punga, is traded to people in the Capital Wastes
--There's also several major caravans going to most of the major settlements in the region to facilitate the trade of these goods across the region.

>and the world looks like the bombs dropped rather recently
Explained by the lack of water
>people living in literal rust shacks after 200 years

Nukes work by using up all the nuclear material to create an exothermic reaction(sorry, it's been 20 years since highschool physics). Nothing lingers. Radiation dispersal devices(dirty bombs) are theoretically designed(never built or tested) to make a zone uninhabitable forever but those affect a zone orders of magnitude smaller than any nuke ever tested. So no, any nuclear bomb wouldn't leave behind radiation for more than a few weeks tops.

This is true of real world physics. Fallout does not, nor has it ever, used real world physics. Even Chris Avellone was talking about most of the post war world being a blast hellscape in the Fallout bibles before Bethesda bought the series.
>A dozen brahmin feeding the whole wasteland?
What is game scale =/= real world scale. Hell, I recall someone once counted, and there's more brahmin being raised for food in Fo3 than in NV.
>Trading what from where?
Between all the major settlements they go to in-game.
>where are those caravans getting (perishable?) food from
Already explained. Rivet city grows large quantities of perishable food in its hydroponics lab that it trades to outside settlement for scrap to repair the city. As I mentioned previously.
>And because the water is contaminated that means it doesn't rain either?
Its never stated that it doesn't rain in the Capital Wasteland, in fact, a few NPCs mention it raining.

So yes, "it happens off screen!" is literally how you explain the crater sized plot holes. Just imagine the mirelurk farm and lab on rivet city being 100x the size, a constant stream of caravans trekking across the wasteland from settlement to settlement feeding thousands or hundreds of thousands. Oh and by the way it rains every time the player isn't looking?

And Avellone was talking about the, back then, current state of Fallout. Not 210 years after the war. And even back then there was much more rebuilding going on than in 3 or 4.

>boom bombs fall
>30 years of legit wasteland tribes and farm small settlements
>50 years later towns and trading
>100 years later small cities and local law enforcement, medium distance travel
>150 years later larger cities and local governments
That was the state of the "wasteland" in Fallout 2. Fallout 3 reset all that in everything except for the date on the pipboys.

What i was talking about is some dev commentary, an interview or a part of the Fallout bible i haven't seen in which it states that Fallout nukes combine the effects of RDDs with the power of conventional nukes. Or something like "dear diary, today we tested a new type of nuke." followed up with "dear diary, 50 years ago we tested a nuke. yesterday the radiation levels are finally low enough to enter the blast zone with special hazmat suits that don't melt within 100 miles of the outer perimeter."

>FO76 is getting closed soon
lmao no
>and Obsidian will be making all Fallout games from now on
the game isn't even development yet, Microsoft laid off a third of Obsidian, it won't release for like 3 or 4 years

>I'm not sure you know how long 200 years is
No one cares about the time skip dude.

The gachafag tears are so delicious.

>My bad. Maybe you can?
By this logic do you think small towns like Goodsprings and Primm in NV are literally just like 10 people? You are aware those have the same scale down?
>Towns full of people that can't survive because see above
Towns that can survive because of the above
> Water purification that doesn't work because project purity has never been used.
This tells me you haven't played the game, because we see water purification systems in Tenpenny Tower, Megaton, and Rivet city. They're just ineffective, and only eek out enough to let people survive, not thrive. Eden even talks about this in his radio messages.
> AND IT DOESN'T RAIN!
It does rain.
>Trade caravans that see above.
Ditto, see above why you're wrong.
> Trade routes reaching towns and cities that are just as much in the shit as DC.
Except its explicitly pointed out D.C. is the worst off. And we see this in Fallout 4 where the Commonwealth is MUCH better. The BoS even joke about how "you think this is bad, you should be the Capital Wasteland"

>It does rain.
You either haven't played Fallout 3 without mods or you're just not remembering correctly but it does not rain in Fallout 3. Or is that just another one of those "it happens off screen" events and scaled down everything?

>Except its explicitly pointed out D.C. is the worst off.
Retcon. Nothing in Fallout 3 explains why it's in a worse state than any other location we had seen up until that game despite being set 200 years after the bombs.

And it's hilarious how there are still people defending these layoffs when they could've traded the Bethesda employees they fired with Obsidian's team that are working on the next Fallout. That lead artist horse lady they fired made a ton of the assets they used for Fallout 4, Starfield, and Oblivion and Fallout 3. Giving her to Obsidian would've made more sense. Instead, those roles will be filled by "contractors" which will likely mean UE5 sadly.

>Or is that just another one of those "it happens off screen" events and scaled down everything?
Rain is mentioned by NPCs several times.
>Retcon. Nothing in Fallout 3 explains why it's in a worse state than any other location we had seen up until that game despite being set 200 years after the bombs.
Except the entire plot of Fo3 regarding D.C. being hit harder, and thus, its water being turbo fucked.

Corporate politics. Some people don't want to work in different environment, some upper management guys don't want people from other companies working on "their" IP even tho they are all under the same umbrella. Highschool tier drama but it happens every day.
>>
>>573861746
As management, it's your job to tard wrangle these retards. If you can't do that, then you've already failed. Giving them to another company working on the same projects they always have done is a vastly better outcome than laying them off entirely. What can they even cry about "Oh no, I had to move to a new office! I had to relocate to a different state! I had to work from home and communicate with my boss through Skype!" Oh, the horror!
>>
>>573861731
>Rain is mentioned by NPCs several times.
You made this claim now several times, you either post some proof or admit that it's bullshit. It does not rain in Fallout 3.

>D.C. being hit harder
With special nukes spreading special radiation that contaminates everything forever.

>The Lone Wanderer: "Where can I find Ted Strayer?"
>Rivet City security: "Have you tried the common room? That's where he sleeps. Otherwise...hmmm. You can probably find him on the flight deck some days, if it isn't raining. He usually goes to the Muddy Rudder on Sundays. Beyond that, who knows."

> I was running low on water, so I figured I'd go out and get some instead of waiting for fate to deliver it to me. Hell, I can't remember the last time it rained.
>>
>>573861982
It's more like "I don't want to work under this producer" or "i don't want someone from RIVAL COMPANY coming in and working on MY project" Petty bullshit.
>>
>>573862186
One single line from a guard mentioning rain and one line in a holotape talking about how extremely rare rain is. You realize that hurts your argument more than it helps, right?
>>
>>573862450
I said it rained, I never said it rained regularly. your argument was that it never rained, I posted dialogue showing that it does in fact rain. So, no, this doesn't hurt my argument more than it helps. It literally proves my argument that it does rain, and contradicts your argument that it never rains.

Also, that line is shared by a number of NPCs in Rivet city, guards and not, so multiple people in Rivet city will mention the rain when asked.
>>
>>573862695
No anon, what would have helped you is a screenshot or a video clip of rain falling from the sky in game. That is the only thing.

To
>well it doesn't matter that you posted that NPCs talk about rain like you said they did, and I claimed you needed to post proof to back up your claim!
I accept your concession retard.
