With the benefit of hindsight since Midnight has just kept either introducing or remaking a bunch of characters I don't give a shit about, I keep looking at Shadowlands as I work on doing this meta and I just think... these random ass new literally who characters we'll never see again are so much better.Like Shadowlands is so terribly written, more precisely as 9.1 starts because everything just derails from itself and suddenly all kinds of plot points come up out of nowhere, ignores even the major SL points the base expansion started with.But man... I really enjoyed the majority of the characters. The campaigns of each covenent weren't god awful by themselves. The timegating of them absolutely was, but there's a lot of good characters in each covenant, Sit the fuck down Pelagos, nobody is talking about you!The one good element that it's done that Midnight hasn't got a clue how to do was actually have the characters acknowledge the threat at hand and actually be in the fucking world fighting it. Like damn, these guys actually want to survive, and put aside their differences pretty quickly because there is kind of a big obvious looming bigger picture there! The one good element of 9.1 is watching the Covenants assault the Maw, and interact with each other as they do so.Like this Venthyr assault currently going on, they're teamed up with the Night Fae. It's a bizarre looking mix up, but its both nice and kind of funny how they get along. Renathal seems to know just how overpowered Lady Moonberry is, but really only flexes her power if she thinks it'll be funny. And he respectfully works with her on that, politely making requests of her where she can 'trick' the enemy.No character interactions with Arator or Liadrin or the Haranir, or whoever the fuck else, even come close to this level of charm.Shame the writing around these assaults is still pretty bad, but you know, take whatever good elements you can.

Why do they keep insisting that every race in the game needs to be friends, we are all one big family, and animosity between family is wrong? I wish I was even exaggerating that. And the vast majority of the playerbase either explicitly dislikes this storytelling, or they simply don't care enough to even pay attention. But they've done it for 3 expansions in a row now. It worked a bit better in Dragonflight because it was a disconnected group from our playable races, the Dragons, but now they've started to extend this to the player races as well. I just find it so confusing. Why consistently antagonize your paying customers?

has healing been overcomplicated?even after the pruning, it still feels like there's a lot of random shit going on in these specsholy priest has to maintain bouncing mend stacks to get random procs of another spell while managing cooldowns that instead of using a fixed CDR get CDR derivatives from casting other spells and most of their healing doesnt even come from the spells themselves but half a dozen tertiary staple on effectsresto shaman has to constantly pop a series of cooldowns which have an added effect of summoning floating spirits which ramp based on the number of spirits summoned which mimic their spellspreservation evoker has to somehow get other players to not dodge their almost entirely skillshot based healing while using echo to combo heal, but a big portion of their healing actually comes from using anomaly CDR to reduce cooldown on breath not for breaths healing itself but because breath grants a tertiary apex proc of merithras blessing which transforms reversion into a super heal, though it also has a random proc chance to do the same when using spenders. and all of that is just the baseline competency to play the spec at its bare minimum. nevermind learning all the encounters, optimizing so you arent blowing through mana or overhealing, interaction with BIS trinkets, etc. this shit is still like an order of magnitude more complicated rotationally than dps or tanks.
