Deltarune is about escapism. I feel like chapter 5 was so low on actual story development because it’s the equivalent of putting off important things one day too many. Letting yourself pretend things are okay for that little bit too long a time, and chapter 6 is going to show the repercussions of that. Chapter 7 is gonna be after the world ends and it’s going to directly point to Undertale as the next “chapter” as it were; a separate universe made out of the remnants of what once was the world of Deltarune. To add to that, there are four layers of reality. The obvious ones are real life, the light world, and the dark world. However, there’s an unspoken layer between us and Deltarune’s world as a whole: Gaster. Gaster is something like a semi-consciousness, as he is quite literally the dev team (and especially Toby Fox) made into a singular being with “will”. We can’t interact with Deltarune’s world without the direct connection offered by Gaster in the form of the SOUL, which he is the creator of. So it goes like this: IRL, Gaster, Light, Dark. That’s why Gaster is in Undertale and it’s why UT and DR use the same characters and concepts.
