I'm starting to get an idea for who the fuck Mike was. I don't think Mike was a FRIEND, Mike was Dess's microphone that Noelle brought to Kris's house and might've developed a penchant for secret hunting. He taught Spamton how to accrue wealth and fame without triggering the FRIEND swarm and it has something to do with the Thorn Ring.The Thorn Ring isn't just a really powerful weapon but something that can bypass the in-universe detection system that sics FRIEND onto you. But it has its limits and Spamton overstepped. I think once Spamton got caught he can't use any exploits to bypass FRIEND anymore, that's why he made 2 teenagers do all the dirty work.The Thorn Ring is why you can do all the Weird Route shit without Gaster seeing it as an "issue", you're doing some kind of item glitch that doesn't set off FRIEND so he either doesn't see it or can't do anything about it.

I flat out don’t think escapism is that big a theme in Deltarune. The characters think it is but it isn’t, dark worlds aren’t escapist fantasies, they’re real in every sense of the word. Characters treat them like that are wrong every time. Not because they get to lost in the escapist fantasy, but because they’re treating a part of reality like it’s less real. Like there aren’t consequences for their actions there. Berdly almost caused the roaring because he thought like this. He thought he could just expect dark worlds forever because they're just fun adventures aren’t they? Ralsei wants the characters to treat him this way, that his life matters less. Because he’s not real he argues, he’s an illusion. But that’s not true. Ralsei’s happiness does matter, and him pursuing his happiness is what allows him to grow. Asgore flat out rejects the escapist fantasy of the dark world, flowery tries to give him one but he fails, because asgore knows that the dark world is real. He gets trapped in it in his own way but not because of some escapist fantasy, but because he isolates just a place to escape. Chapter 4 is the most “real” place we’ve been to so far. Truth written in glass fill the entire dark world because it’s real. The prophecy is real, the supernatural is real, divinity is real. Acting like these places are fantasy lands where you can escape for a while but don’t get to lost in is wrong, it’s a false hierarchy that the game is demolishing with each chapter. You cannot both believe that dark worlds are a metaphor for escapism, and believe that Ralsei’s arc is about them discovering their own worth and prioritizing their own happiness. There is no hierarchy, the dark and light worlds are equally real. The tragedy of chapter 5’s ending isn’t that Susie slept in hometown again, a place full of real people who love and cherish her, it’s that Kris didn’t join her.TL:DR: dark worlds are real and not just fantasy.
