I don't play Samsho but are the DLC characters busted? Seems unfair that Baiken and Hibiki get real combos while everyone else just gets normal into special at best. Warden also seems to get top 8 the few tourneys ive seen really often too

IMO the problem isn't the gimmicks, but the people abusing them instead of playing normally. Mr. Karate is great at everything.

I really wish all that money they wasted on CoTW, and are likely planning to waste on Art of Fighting, had been focused on Metal Slug. It’s the only SNK franchise that actually has the potential to attract a new player base.

Yes, and apparently it's canon to the main series to (at least according to the snk wiki which isn't always accurate). 2 playable chars that are new recruits to Marco and frens' company on their first mission. It was pretty experimental, like there was a health bar, no score, item pickups give you cards and there was a build making aspect, certain levels were labyrinth-like with respawning enemies rather than sidescrollers. Most of it was to cope with the GBA's small screen and to give it more replay value with the card collecting but overrall the movement and feel felt very close to the mainline games

I love Fatal Fury. I love the direction of the game and would love for this to end up being the vision they wanted, the "ultimate Fatal Fury" game by fine tuning it and adding in more and more content. I love that they are funded by people who care more about developing the game than the profit the game is making because they're clearly losing money on this, compare this to Mortal Kombat who across several games has a ton of cancelled DLC including stuff that was announced.

I don't care if the game never becomes popular for the mainstream or even a lot of the fighting game community. I will be here for however many seasons they develop the game because I fucking love Fatal Fury. Fatal Fury Special, 3, Real Bout 1 2 and special, Dominated Mind, Wild Ambition, even the mobile games. I played the shit out of them all the time until CotW and now I play that a lot. I hope the people who are funding this continue to stay interested in developing the game because the people who work on this game clearly love Fatal Fury too.

I don't agree about CotW being that good and I can't see it ever becoming the "ultimate Fatal Fury", but it did win me over when I was highly sceptical. By the time it got released no less and not when it got better with updates.
I feel like CotW even managed to make me actually interested in some of the MotW newcomers, all of whom I usually viewed as being meh. Rock doesn't feel as boring beyond his lineage and design too.

Ah, yes, if only SNK had already popular somewhat modern franchises like Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter, Dead Rising or even some wildly known smaller games like Ace Attorney and Mega Man.
Alas, all they really got a competetive fighting game series and a run and gun that would be indie tier if a new game was released today. Everything else: they have to start from basically zero.

And before you say legacy matters and helped RE7, it didn’t help Tomb Raider or Dios Ex. Capcom made a good game before anything else and reaped the benefits.
