i will say FUCK savannahs though, they're kind of interesting and cool to look at once or twice but i swear every single seed i've been looking through for a new world has been tainted by endless seas of shitty savannah. a simple plains would be so much better. even in other worlds i've played, anytime there's a really cool windswept hills mountain it's tainted by savannah and swamp, in that order. fucking ANNOYING

The cushion update hype is genuinely some of the most astroturfed garbage ever. Even worse than the sulfur cube. It is so obvious these things are not as versatile as the youtumors are trying to make them out to be and everything they make with them look like shit and all of the redstone shit they try to do is just jank and ugly and the "led" floors are a meme and also ugly.
>>
>>573984634
even taking away all the gimmicks people are coming up with that you mentioned, having a block you can place into another block is really versatile
they're not gonna change the game but interior decoration will definitely be improved a lot

No, they're an eyesore. Everywhere you use it as anything but a chair it is going to looked so forced. Even furniture looks generally better as just wool. People are acting like this is vertical slabs when nobody will use it for anything but chairs after 1 week of release just like nobody will touch the cubes. Gaudy, awful texture that looks bad up close, and it disappears from afar. It is fucking USELESS and in a few months you'll all be saying the same thing while pretending you didn't suck mojang's cock over it.
>>
>>573985124
It's just a cushion, your bench made out of stairs will look nicer. It's handy and not worthless, but it's not a big deal either.

It's basically like banners.
Imagine if banners wouldn't exist and mojang would implement them right now, ecelebs would explode in euphoria and redditors would have five orgasms per second for a whole month.

They're actually pretty cool. I built a room for my music discs and used redstone lamps for the floor for something of a disco feel. I'll probably add cushions once the update is out

>>
>>573996079
I tried to use them, but if i put them as an ornament or detail somewhere, they always look odd from some angle when walking by and that annoy me.
If you put them on a big build and only look at it from further away and throw youtube compression on it and squint your eyes, they are amazing and you can use them everywhere, but for me personally, they might as well not exist.

>>
>>573998541
They fill a similar role to trapdoors in many situations, and I was already using those a ton. Maybe you don't build in the same way I do, but I have nothing but positive things to say about shelves
>>
I’m thinking about coming back to Minecraft after a year long hiatus, what seems to be a good version for survival?

It's a gameplay thing for me.
At first i think the added detail is nice, and a month later i go "nah, lets remove that again" and end up with a basic bitch arc and i am much more happy with it.
Especially when its quartz. It has a whole variety of blocks, why not make the quartz pillar out of quartz pillar blocks? The wooden shelf is always going to look like wood, unless you stand 100 blocks away and squint your eyes and hiding Quartz with wood is a crime against humanity.

There is no better test for me than gameplay.
Like i attempted a block vomit roof back in the day, thought "oh cool, that looks nice", then a month later removed it because it started to annoy me.

Gonna put a tin foil hat on for a second, I wonder if there is a management shift occurring at Mojang right now in light of the broader restructuring and layoffs at Xbox/Microsoft, especially after the news that Mojang and King will be answering to the new head of Xbox more directly, and that's why there is a delay and "Summer vacations" is just a cover?
>>
>>574018535
Mojang always goes on vacation every summer. You get 4 weeks in Sweden by law
>>
>>574019765
Yeah, just like in every civilized country. However, an entire company doesn't usually go on vacation all at once. People tend to spread their vacations throughout the year so that when one person is away someone else can back them up, not to mention that not everyone likes going on vacation in the middle of the season when all the touristy destinations will be packed with other people.

I just think the timing is is a bit suspicious.
>>
>>574023652
Last year they delayed the Java snapshots with like two weeks, despite the Bedrock preview being out. This is the usual Mojang pattern
>>
>be Mojang employee

Scaling down the 14+ layers to 3-5 layers is an explicitly stated part of their restructuring. If they're going to get fired, it's probably because they're now directly answering to the Xbox head, who might make a lot more demands on them compared to what they're used to

cushions are okay. my guess is they'll be terminally overused for a few weeks after the update drops, and then they'll settle down to a relatively reasonable level of use like the shelves have. i'm pretty excited for them, small thrones are going to be much better and i might use them as lanterns in a few spots, and couches and benches. but i dont think i'm going to use them in every corner of every build ever.

For me, Minecraft peaked several times
Some of my best memories are from Minecraft Classic servers with the WoM client mod
Then obviously early alpha. I remember seeing those X videos for the first time and being blown away by fucking torches of all things
Then release 1.8 was probably my favourite version of the game. I hated enchanting when it came out, and by 1.8 they had fixed it and I'd gotten used to it. On top of that we finally got different colored fences and doors
And up next? We get to sit down. Peak.

That being said, I have never done a build anywhere close on this scale, so it is a challenge on its own to see if I can finish the whole thing. I already had a 2 year hiatus and only just picked it up again, so I fear this will happen more often. But it makes for a comfy project to go back to without having to start up a new world again

yeah, they still change some things every update or so but they're overall decently stable and usually the changes are easy to fix.

Right now I use a combination of shaders to

>make the 'render distance fog' closer to the player like it used to be and a little thicker
>make clouds fade into the render distance fog better
>make stars larger, brighter(like there were until like mid-beta?) and have multiple colors
>make night time, caves and the nether darker
>remove the block light flickering and the orange tint to lighting, restoring the more classic white-tinted lighting.

and then someone else made this procedural shader that I've been playing around with, it procedurally generates water, lava, nether portal, and fire textures. As soon as the modrinth link goes live I'll link it here

I realized the reason egaps exist / their purpose in minecraft, is just for the wither.

They were both added to the game around the same time in 2012.

Without trapping it / cheesing it, the wither is uniquely obscenely dangerous.

Egap is an alternative out against it.

And while I feel like back in the day people didn't care about beacons as much, in modern minecraft it's obviously regarded as an essential meta thing that everyone needs.

So that's why egaps still exist, that's why they've never been nerfed. What else are you going to use it for? It's for the wither.

I thought that the trajectory of the sulfur cube is determined by the vector from position of impact to the center of the mob.
But nope, it's not.
It's a 3x3 grid and it doesn't matter where you hit the mob within a box of that grid. There is no such thing as fine adjustment. That's why the cube feels so uncontrollable, because it actually is.
>>
>>574124782
Is that really true? I've barely touched it, so I have no clue myself, but it seems horribly limited if so. I can understand wanting to limit randomness a bit, since humans are imprecise, but they could at least have used a 9x9 grid

wow that sounds really fucking terrible for trying to make a golf course out of because the whole point is fine adjustments. i guess most of the decisionmaking would be which material to turn the cube into and which level of knockback to use, but wow only really having a few ways to bounce it sucks so much. armor stands don't have that limitation.

my friend says that my storage room is cruel to my copper golems and recommended i give them enrichment.

refute him by building the real torture nexus for copper golems, those teleportation machines that use lodestones and compasses. those golems can't even move around.
or make a useless machine for golems to play around with.
>>
>>574127481
It’s only half true, yes there is a grid system of sorts but it definitely does change trajectory depending on the angle of impact, both are factored
>>
>>574128747
Put a cake next to a copper chest, and see which one the golem picks
>>
>>574129283
So it's basically normalizing the vector depending on the grid space you hit it in? Seems like an odd way to implement it, since that will neither give you full freedom nor make hits more deterministic
>>
>>574124782
only two uses i've found for them is boat chest lead super smelter loaders and monorails. both are cool, but otherwise i find sulfur cubes to be an awkward novelty that probably needed a few more months to bake.

Frog poster here again.
Just tested a bit more and it is different by position within a portion, so what i read, and what i thought explains the weird behavior i was looking at, was at least partially wrong.

I think, and that's pure speculation now, that the more-damage-makes-it-fly-further portion is applied differently than the knockback portion.
When you stand diagonally left of the cube and hit the same pixel, it flies into a different direction than when you hit the same pixel from diagonally right.
The position of the impact isn't doing it alone. There is a mixture going on her. Maybe the impact position part is bound to that 3x3 grid.
>>
>>574134795
You can also use them for cosmetic conveyor belts, since you still see the block after splashing them with invisibility potions. Between that and monorails, at least they have a use case I'm interested in

I personally made only shit houses from my imagination until my friend insisted we copied builds for our server. I begrudgingly accepted only to like the fact that I learned how to detail my builds. Having a few stairs, trapdoors, or fence posts makes a world of difference. Funny thing is underneath all that makeup there's still a shitty house we all know how to build

Frog poster here again.

Knockback definitely, 100% sure, fact checked and snopes verified goes into a different direction from damage.
You can peer review this by spawning a cube on a specific position, sitting in a boat that's in a specific position, giving yourself a stick with lots of knockback, and hitting different pixels and observing the angles that you manage.
Then repeat the experiment, but this time hitting the same pixel, but varying the knockback levels.
/give @p stick[enchantments={knockback:20}]
Then repeat both, but this time with the fist or unenchanted stick and strength effect.
Note that the knockback stick still does 1 damage and the strength attack still does knockback.
The knockback heavy attack will have little variety in angle compared to the strength. The variety it has can be explained by the mandatory 1 damage.

In practical play, you may realize this with a knockback sword if you spam click the cube compared to one hitting it.
The spam click strikes after the first hit do little damage but still apply knockback and it makes the cube feel much more controlled and predictable. It negates the positional weirdness a bit.

I think the 3x3 grid was just a myth i gobbled up. Even though i still can't explain how the damage gets its direction.

I know that most of the stuff will work at least as far back as 1.21, probably will need a few tweaks to factor in changes to shaders between then and now but i was using them

the procedural texture code IDK, it's designed for 26.1+

redstonechads, can you help me solve a problem? I've been doing a lot of mining and have been turning all my stone into smooth stone for building and for the furnace xp. I have more than I need at this point and still want to maintain the xp function so I've just been throwing the excess into lava. it's annoying though. is there a machine I can set up where I can just dump it into a chest and then it goes into a rapid fire dispenser that shoots it into lava? Would also use a similar setup for my enderman farm for excess pearls if possible.

alternatively, is there an easy farmable resource that I can use to power the xp super smelter? It's been way more convenient than having to go to the end and I want to level that bitch up.

>Promise myself i should quit using mods because I keep getting held back by them not updating, and just turn everything into datapacks and Kube.js scripts since those are "portable"
>Get stuck in 1.21.1 for the entire year anyways
When are they going to add data driven blocks? I'ts annoying to choose between the new resource pack features and sugar cane blocks + potato crates
>inb4 Quark
That shit only got to 1.21 like last month and is extremely bloated anyways.
At this point I'll just start writing these minuscule mods myself.

set up a lava farm for infinite buckets and push that into a furnace with hoppers on its side with the stone at the top. Pull the stone with a hopper on the bottom into a dropper facing lava connected to two observers face to face for a quick clock
>>
>>574172829
dried kelp blocks via kelp farm w/ smokers and bulk crafters that self feed (you need a lout of kelp feeding into the system to keep it efficient, or you'll waste smelt ops on a smoker not getting enough kelp while it's fuel is still burning)
that, or bamboo.
lava is a novelty fuel imo. bucket recovery is easy enough to hopper chain, but it's space and time inefficient when you consider a single 64 stack of dry kelp blocks beats a single unstackable lava bucket in net smelt ops 6 times over. plus, no way to automate the caudron scooping. kelp takes up way more space, but once online, it's 100 worth
ofc for xp you can always make an allay/armadillo torment nexus if you have infestation pots
>>
>>574172829
luckily, that's one of the easiest circuits. chest with a hopper below it going into a dispenser. on the back of the dispenser put a comparator in subtract mode, then a repeater, then redstone running back to the side of the comparator and to the top of a block next to the dispenser. done. cactus is the best resource for furnace xp farms
>>
>>574174606
>When are they going to add data driven blocks?
Data driven blocks (and items) are probably Mojang's endgame and can't come soon enough, but realistically it will probably take them another 5-10 years to accomplish since there is so much stuff with special/unique behavior (crops, containers, beacons, job sites, double blocks, etc. etc.) that won't be easily converted from hardcoded to data-driven
>>
>>574174606
if you want to ensure your little modded feature will be available on the latest version, the only way is to do it yourself. if you have the ability to you really should, if you would have to make ai slop to do it then just have some patience. it's fun to code a little bit, and try and wrangle fabric into submission.

For the enderman farm, the easiest way to deal with it is to have the floor of the killing chamber be moved by pistons so everything falls into the void. They usually produce so many ender pearls that hoppers can't keep up. But if you've got a slower farm that's already capturing the pearl using hoppers, then you can use the exact same system as for your stone smelter: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/B_SD1gtRBSk

Steve is the only

being in the entire existence of minecraft who can control the environment. At best other creatures can just destroy it. (endermen are too depressed to do anything more than one block per billion ticks)
