The trust system was a disaster for this game because the gameplay and lore have to revolve around trusts now. No scions can die in the story because that will affect the trust system. No cool gimmicks can be in the dungeons, because the trust AI sucks at handling a tiny bit of 3-second swimming.

A lot of people don't like Dynamis because it feels like it shows up right at the end of the story and suddenly becomes the answer to everything. For years, XIV made Aether seem like the foundation of how the world worked, then Endwalker introduces a completely new force that's powered by emotions and is somehow the key to beating the final boss. Even if the themes fit, it can come across like the writers added a new rule at the last minute instead of building toward it naturally.

Since then, he's just been circling back to shit he already should've resolved. It's like the writers don't know what to do with him, but they're terrified of removing him and letting someone else breathe in the spotlight for a while. For a story to be engaging, you need to be willing to cut things that aren't serving a purpose. Have you ever heard of this concept?

This is just a story after all; it's no good if there's no conflict. I do agree on the latter bit though. Despite saying that I want new characters, after seeing them handle Zero and Wuk, I'm really hesitant. We might need new writers at this point.
