Odds are that the recomp is still at least half-emu. It's become common for them to staple Xenia or whatever on top. CPU is very rarely the hard part of emulating anything.

Still better than Wonder. Can't believe people said that's the "best" 2D Mario game in years when it's an even easier version of those NSMB games.
>>
>>574581952
I don't care about "easier", but is it more fun? The NSMB series doesn't have much of a free-flowing level design as the classics. And it also has those detestable collectibles, tucked away in annoying places. I'd rather play a short, well-designed game than a padded average experience.

Oh, before I post, IIRC, some anon here was complaining about Wonder back then, saying that the gameplay-to-cutscene ratio was awful and you watched more than you played. I think he even composed an image about that, but I didn't save it.
>>
>>574584060
>And it also has those detestable collectibles, tucked away in annoying places.
I won't lie, DS NSMB hid those in clever places. It reminds me a lot of SMW in a way, just with a few SM64 movesets. (Wall jumping and triple jumps.)
>>
Should i use bsnes or ares for snes emulation? Also is RMG still considered the best way to play n64 games or is gopher64 the best now?
>>
>>574584897
bsnes and ares use the same emulator core, the only difference is that bsnes is SNES only while ares is a multi-emulator frontend. And yes, RMG is the best non-ares way to play N64 games. If you care about accuracy, ares is the best N64 emulator.
>>
>>574584897
Use Ares who is also a very good N64 emulator and support the same shaders as Retroarch.
>>
Is it time to stop using RetroArch? I'm gonna miss those shaders. Especially Mega Bezel.
>>
>>574581952
Wonder's problem is that it's too reliant on setpieces and gimmicks. It doesn't seem like you could make a 'maker' of it because its whole thingy is different scripted/bespoke shit every level. I'd say it's still more fun to play through one time than any NSMB, but NSMB has better 'fundamentals'. NSMB's problem really is just how shitty it looks and sounds, but the gameplay and moveset are decent.
>>
>>574585596
Why? If it works keep using it.
>the shaders
If you have to drop it, Ares has all the RA shaders baked in and Duckstation has several of the ones you'd use RA for. PCSX2 has an elaborate shader implementation through PGS. ShaderGlass and Reshade can force RA shaders into anything but you have to do the math yourself to get the scanlines and pixel grid right.
>>
>>574584159
I need to replay it. I finished it three or four times, in an actual DS, back then. It was almost twenty years ago.

What I remember clearly: I hated having to replay the same levels as mini-Mario just to unlock an alternate path. It just wasn't fun. Perhaps if they had a few levels built entirely around that concept it could be better.
>>
>>574586967
>I hated having to replay the same levels as mini-Mario just to unlock an alternate path.
Luckily the first few worlds have warp cannons that you can unlock via secret exists, and I only ever had to use Mini Mario once to access one of the bottom worlds.

>>
what's the go to emulator for switch now?
>>
>>574586667
For Duckstation you can just drop the RA shader folder in it and call it a day, same for Ares to update them.
>>
>>574588230
I'd say maybe if they were purely PC ports, but most of them have asterisks and lean on emulation or some sort of fakery on some level. It seems like virtualization and wrappers are kosher here, and I'm okay with that.
>>
Why bother with the 360 version as a foundation anyway? Isn't it basically an emulator too?

why separate multi-system emulators from standalone emulators on https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Nintendo_64_emulators its a page about n64 emulators, what does it matter that Ares is a multi-system emulator, all that matters is how it emulates N64 as far as this page is concerned.

They shouldn't be separated into a separate table, but they absolutely should be marked as such. A separate column in the table, stating the status of a given emulator, either "standalone" or "core" or "both standalone and core". Some ppl reject RA on principle due to lacking per-system quirks support (I don't know the situation now, but I remember a GameBoy core was not supporting the Solar Sensor the last time I used it a few years ago), but other likes everything streamlined

WOMM means "works on my machine", and now I'm genuinely puzzled. Your CPU isn't terrible, so I'm not sure why KOF97's running badly on your end. Which core are you using? FBNeo? MAME? Hopefully you're not running an older version of either core. (Like "MAME 2010" or "FB Alpha")

Arcade (MAME)
>>
oh... I tried with some other games, and it seems they also go really slow, so it must be some setting which made everyting play slower, not sure if some hotkey or something did it, but gonna check on that.
>>
>>574733913
Ah, well that explains it! I tested both FBNeo and MAME myself and KOF97 ran at full speed in both cores.
>>
>>574733528
>>574733913
Check to see if rewind and/or run-ahead are on, those can eat up a lot of performance.
>>
>>574734018
it was vsync, for whatever reason it got fixed when I turned it off, not sure how it activated by itself or why it suddenly made my game slower.
Settings > Video > Synchronization

I switched my display recently, so I wonder if that may have something to do, but I'm not sure
>>
>>574734191
Ahhh, I'm all too familiar with vsync issues. Used to have trouble with Beetle Saturn back when I was using a 165hz (non-VRR) monitor. Ran way too fast.
>>
>>574734191
nevermind, it was actually some configuration from my graphics card, for whatever reason it was as 1080i,1980 x 1080 (30hz) and I set it as 1080p,1980 x 1080 (60hz) and now everything seems to go way better (not just the games).
>>
So what's the difference between a "recomp" and an HLE emulator? At this point, the two seem very similar, only recomps are on a per-game basis.

Most of the current ones are basically the same thing, just using ahead-of-time recompilation instead of dynamic, or just-in-time, recompilation.
>>
>>574736660
It's fascinating seeing where emulation is heading at right now. So far we've been getting both interpreter accuracy improvements AND static recomps. Very happy that they all co-exist.

Not a single trope is pictured here.

One reason people don't buy AMD is because AMD doesn't make it palatable enough to drop the encoding, upscaling, and RT benefits of Nyidya regardless of your opinions on these features. The equivalent ayy card with those nerfs is often the same price or not far from it. Sell your Kroger shit at Kroger prices. I'm sure Su and Huang are incestuously fucking each other literally and figuratively and have this figured out, though.
>>
that said ayyy cards are great e-waste/gf build/budget build stuff if you go a generation or 3 back
>>
>padforge's DS3 BT syncing is broken
>not even gonna bother with an issue because the dev is a dismissive asshole
I probably should just roll back to DS4W + BTHPS3. Padforge certainly was promising as an all-in-one but it has some problems I'm finding tough to ignore. That clopper Nefarius at least had the fundamentals down.

What? Vega is still fine. In fact anons here even go further back than Vega and they work fine. Maybe not for shadPS4 or the newer PS5 resulators but still.

That's what I'm saying. They are often great deals if you get their old stuff. Their new stuff just isn't as competitive as it should be. It's always been the issue. They give you a bit more RAM but the state of the art shit like RT/upscaling/encoding is weak. That said if you go a gen or two back you can get a much better card for your money than on NV.
>>
>>574801665
It is also weak on Nvidia despite being more expensive and somehow, someway that is never a problem. Only Nvidia is allowed to sell overpriced and under performing hardware.
>>
>>574803302
New hardware, in general, is just a joke, but I'd still rather have a 4070 than a 7800XT just for the assurances that RT and upscaling will be as good as they can be. Ray Reconstruction isn't quite a given in Ayy-land. Anything above that tier of card is just unnecessary and robbery at this point in time. I know...
>inb4 nugames
>inb4 upscaling
>inb4 RT
Why buy a new card at all then? At that point I would just grant you that something a few years old from ayy is best.
>>
>>574800302
>ohh no, i need to open a new window to change the sound settings

Don't you remember the hell that was PJ64 1.6? I'm glad that shit got retired.
>>
>>574806789
I would have chosen improved compatibility and/or performance rather than a copy-pasted UI.
>>
>>574806714
I think the time for keeping 1.6 for this that or the other feature has long since passed and it's all been implemented in StenzySX2 and then some. What kind of schizo are you to defend still using it? 7-fag? I bet there's some way by hook or crook to use nuPCSX2 in 7, but anyway, that's still schizophrenic.
>>
>>574807192
>it's all been implemented in StenzySX2 and then some.
Don't forget PGS, which blows even StenzySX2's software renderer out of the water.
>>
>>574810128
In a lot of ways yes but it has some cracks here and there. It is very neat, though.
>>
so is armsx2 the best emu now

Find out what version of MAME retroarch is running
Find the delisted romset merged torrent for that version
Somehow find out the name of the games you want to play, in your torrent client not designed for extensive file searching. Also get all the BIOS files, which the retards archiving did not put into a separate folder

Because you got all the bios files, you now need to hunt down a fucking .dat file, located at https://www.progettosnaps.net/dats/MAME/ but not via google
This allows you to add the .dat file to a manual scan... which is also going to require you to go into the desktop menu afterwards if you didn't check "replace playlist". You are going to repeat this mess if you torrent more games.

Pros
At the least somebody realized that .zip and .7zip are acceptable archive files

Cons
"Rom sets", which i assume is the downstream reason for all MAME retardation.

Emubros, is the 8BitDo 64 a good choice for a Sega emulation controller, or should I go with the M30 instead? I’m asking because I could also use it as a 3D Saturn controller.

I got a Flydigi Vader 5 Pro for this exact purpose, and you may want to reconfigure some extra buttons as keyboard keys in case you're using something as limited as RA's RetroPad implementation.
>>

>Flydigi Vader 5 Pro
Its layout is similar to the OG Xbox with black and white buttons, and it costs three times as much as the 64 in my area. It looks good, but I’ll pass. I appreciate it, though.

I use Steam Input for that on a DualShock 4
