Avid WoW player here, and I have constantly over the years tried my hardest to get into FFXIV as i'm also a avid FF fan, and I'm currently on my 7th or 8th attempt to get a spark and enjoy playing this.I'm level 34 running through the main story quest and it just feels like a super boring running simulator between quest points will little combat and no real points of interest in between, and the combat that I DO have is so easy because I'm twice the recommended level due to the EXP boost getting me ahead.This is NOT a hate post, just wondering if or when it becomes more... alive?I dunno. I really like the graphic style and charm it has, but it seems like there's not much else going for it which makes me sad. I can't see myself doing this for the next 40 hours to get to endgame content since i'm not even having fun now.

>>574531445Ok so I'll let you know what your problem is, XIV as a whole, suffers greatly of trying to be a "game", in any other game like WoW, or hell even other Final Fantasies, levelling up feels like a reward, something to look forward, to feel the dopamine after hard work.But here on XIV? levelling up is secondary, it's nothing more than an artificial wall to prevent you from doing x content, there's virtually no difference if you are level 33 or 34, or 45 aside maybe having an extra ability or two (that the game will block you from using if you get too far level wise). For all intended purposes the game has 6 levels, 50/60/70/80/90/100 those are the "milestones" of this game because it's when you get to unlock content from that level range (assuming of course, you also did the story progression needed to unlock them).So yes, the game is a glorified visual novel with hints of gameplay sprinkled inbetween when the story says you are allowed to them, my best guess to your question is wait until you beat the base A realm Reborn story at level 50 (not you getting to level 50, the Main Scenario Quests being 50) since that opens up a lot of things to do.tl;dr, XIV has fun content to do, but the barrier of entry to do them is souless as fuck, even more if you don't get hooked with the story.

ARR is mostly worldbuilding, which is appreciated in hindsight, and while the story does take focus as the expansions go on, the core loop of "complete story quests until you unlock a dungeon/trial fight" is what every expansion will be. Post-game content for each expansion contains twelve 8-man player raids, additional dungeons and trial fights, twenty-four player Alliance Raids - but you'll be dealing with the loop of what you're bringing up now with every x.0 base game. >I can't see myself doing this for the next 40 hours to get to endgame content since i'm not even having fun now.Even if you were to rapidly skip past every single cutscene, which isn't recommended for your long-term enjoyment, this would take you more than 40 hours.
