RepostingAs a complete casual when it comes to Sonic, how does one "get into it"???When I was a lad I played the 1991 Sonic game, I struggled with it because I always wanted to go fast, but I was captivated by the colours and character designs. Later, I would watch the Sonic the Hedgehog (TV series) and laugh along with the antics on screen. Later still in life, my uncle gave me his collection of Sonic comics that I still remember reading on the sofa while I was sick with chickenpox.I love how Retro Sonic looks when compared to his lankier modern counterpart, but I don't hate the modern design, I just have a preference for the older one. I have a few Sonic games on Steam and Switch, most recently adding Frontiers to my library, but I haven't played it yet.Despite all this, I've never really felt like part of the Sonic community, and i feel as though I've missed out on a lot of Sonic content over the years.So what should I look into? Not all the filler is bad, but is depends on how much you like slice of life stuff. Some of it is quite entertaining, especially the chaotix. I think the most entertaining thing about X is that you get to see characters interacting that wouldn't otherwise interact since non of them are really split into teams like in the games. Sonic 1's level design is unique compared to other games though, you do need to pay attention to find the shortcuts and tricks. Sonic 2 has different paths too, but the way to access them don't seem as unique or require as much thought or experimentation. Maybe my opinion will change as I play Sonic 2's time attack more though, but so far this is my experience. People who get upset about Sonic 1 being slow have definitely not tried to look for the faster paths though. The other day someone got angry at me because I said the game doesn't force you to go through the elevators in Spring Yard
