All this Spin Dash talk reminds me, I really prefer the original Sonic CD version since it trades the move off for a charge time. Absolutely hate that Whitehead headcanoned it into his remaster and made it the default, making the Super Peel Out more of a novelty. The Time Attack mode also crumbles with the 'Genesis Dash'. Game was clearly designed with Sonic 1 sensibilities.
